For a second straight week, DEADPOOL demolishes the competition with a fantastic $56 million from 3,722 theatres for 20th Century Fox. In two weeks it has amassed $236.9 million in earnings already!
KUNG FU PANDA 3 is a distant second but rises back up to second spot with $13.2 million for 20th Century Fox also, now in its fourth week out. It has made $117 million domestically to-date.
RISEN debuts in third with $11.5 million for Sony Pictures from 2,915 theatres. Its A- CinemaScore should help it in coming weeks as the Biblical Drama looks to carry its life into Easter. Critics gave it 58% on the Tomatometer.
THE WITCH debuts in fourth for A24/Elevation Pictures with $8.3 million from 2,046 theatres. Audiences didn’t respond too well with a C- CinemaScore, but Critics know best with an 88% score on the Tomatometer and a Twitter endorsement from King of Horror himself, Stephen King.
HOW TO BE SINGLE slips to fifth spot with $8 million for Warner Bros. this weekend, now in its second week out, making $35 million thus far.
Jesse Owens Biopic RACE debuts in sixth spot with $7 million from 2,369 theatres for eOne Films/Focus Features. Critics gave it a just-passing 61% on the Tomatometer, while Audiences gave it an A CinemaScore, which should give it some life in coming weeks.
ZOOLANDER 2 slips to seventh spot in its second week out with $5.3 for Paramount Pictures. It has made $23 million in its run thus far.
Rounding-out the Top Ten is HAIL, CAESAR! with $2.6 million for Universal Pictures. Numerically coincidental, it has made $26 million to date in three weeks.
Now that’s a lot of love for you! DEADPOOL absolute devastates in its debut this Valentine’s Day weekend earning a smashing $118 million from 3,558 theatres for 20th Century Fox. This sets a record for all-time high for a February opening and also opening day in the month with $47.5 made last night alone in North America. Above this, both Critics and Fans agree that this is a winner with an 84% on the Tomatometer and an A CinemaScore. Expect to see a carryover into continuing weeks as word of mouth spreads for this one. Ryan Reynolds is back and in a huge way.
KUNG FU PANDA 3 slips to second spot with $20 million from 3,844 theatres. It has made $100 million in only three weeks for 20th Century Fox.
HOW TO BE SINGLE opens in third for Warner Bros. with $16 million from 3,394 theatres. Critics gave the Comedy starring Dakota Johnson, Leslie Mann and Dakota Johnson 49% on the Tomatometer and a passing B CinemaScore.
ZOOLANDER 2 opens in fourth with $14 million for Paramount Pictures from 3,343 theatres. Critics were a bit harsh on the long-awaited Sequel giving it 26% on the Tomatometer and Audiences gave it a C+ CinemaScore.
HAIL, CAESAR! is in fifth in it second week out for Universal Pictures with $6.4 million. It has made $22 million thus far.
Rounding out the Top Ten is THE BOY with $2.8 million for eOne Films/STX.
Although many Moviegoers are home this weekend for Super Bowl, that couldn’t stop KUNG FU PANDA from being Master at the Box Office. The 20th Century Fox release for a second week in a row remains on-top with $21.1 million from 3,987 theatres in its second week out. It has made $69 million domestically thus far.
Debuting in second is the star-studded HAIL, CAESAR! with $11.1 million for Universal Pictures from 2,232 theatres. Critics gave the latest effort from The Coen Brothers a 79% on the Tomatometer, with Audiences giving it a surprisingly-low C- CinemaScore.
Former champ THE REVENANT slips to third with $6.9 million for 20th Century Fox, pushing its tally to $149.5 million over seven weeks.
STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS slips to fourth spot with $6.6 million, now in its eighth week out. To date it has made $905 million in North America.
Nicholas Sparks adaptation THE CHOICE opens in fifth with $5.7 million for eOne Films/Lionsgate Films. Critics gave it a 6% on the Tomatometer, but a much more promising B+ CinemaScore.
PRIDE + PREJUDICE + ZOMBIES opens in sixth with $5.1 million for eOne Films. The Jane Austen-Zombie Mashup gets 41% on the Tomatometer and a B- CinemaScore.
THE BOY rounds-out the Top Ten with $3.8 million for STX/eOne Films. The Horror has made $26.6 million in three weeks.
The Coen Brothers are back and you absolutely must check-out this snappy Trailer for their latest opus, HAIL, CAESAR! The Comedy stars a brilliant and eclectic cast including Josh Brolin, Channing Tatum, George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson, Alden Ehrenreich, Jonah Hill, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand and Ralph Fiennes.
