The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television (the Canadian Academy) announced today a landmark partnership that will bring three of Canada’s top broadcasters together to simulcast The 2026 Canadian Screen Awards, a first-of-its-kind award show that will extend this annual celebration of Canadian film and television to more Canadians than ever. Happening on May 31 at the CBC Broadcast Centre in Toronto, The 2026 Canadian Screen Awards will broadcast and stream at 8:00 PM ET on CBC, CBC Gem, Crave, CTV, Global, and STACKTV.
Taking the stage as host is Canadian actor and comedian Andrew Phung, an eight-time Canadian Screen Award winner for his iconic roles in both Kim’s Convenience and Run the Burbs.
“At this pivotal and transformational moment for our industry, it is invigorating to see three powerhouse Canadian broadcasters unite to present The 2026 Canadian Screen Awards,” said Tammy Frick, CEO, Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television. “This unprecedented collaboration underscores the strength of our creative community, and the importance of celebrating Canadian stories on a national stage. We are also thrilled to welcome this year’s host, Andrew Phung, whose genuine rapport, infectious energy, and deep connection with audiences across the country make him a standout choice to lead our celebration of Canadian excellence.”
“As the lead broadcaster of the Canadian Screen Awards and the national public broadcaster, we are always looking for new ways to celebrate and elevate our incredible talent in Canada,” said Sally Catto, General Manager, Entertainment, Factual and Sports, CBC. “We are thrilled to join forces with Bell Media and Corus to champion Canadian storytelling, and bring the awards to more audiences across Canada than ever before.”
“Through this collaboration with the Academy and our Canadian broadcast and streaming partners, Bell Media is proud to help amplify the Canadian Screen Awards. We look forward to joining Canadians in celebrating homegrown storytelling and honouring the exceptional talent that defines excellence in Canadian film and television,” said Justin Stockman, VP, Content Development & Programming, Bell Media.

We’re delighted to celebrate and amplify that storytelling when The 2026 Canadian Screen Awards airs on Global and STACKTV.”
Hosted by actor and comedian Andrew Phung, The 2026 Canadian Screen Awards is Canada’s biggest night in entertainment, honouring homegrown film and television excellence alongside living legends and rising stars. Taking place in Toronto and simulcast on CBC, CBC Gem, Crave, CTV, Global, and STACKTV for the first time ever, The 2026 Canadian Screen Awards will feature meaningful tributes to entertainment icons and never-before-seen TV moments, inviting viewers into a distinctly Canadian celebration of the stories that unite us all.
“I am so over-the-moon excited to be hosting the 2026 Canadian Screen Awards – I’ve wanted this gig for years!” said Andrew Phung. “Canadian Screen Week is such a highlight for our industry, and I’m so excited to spotlight the people and Canadian stories that make our industry so special. Personally, the Canadian Academy has meant so much to me. I won my first Canadian Screen Award in 2017 and it elevated my career in ways I couldn’t have imagined.”
Comedian, actor, and host Andrew Phung’s infectious and relatable personality has made him one of Canada’s top and most recognized comedic performers. He is best known for his award-winning performance on the hit CBC original and Netflix show, Kim’s Convenience, where he won five Canadian Screen Awards in the category of Best Supporting Actor, Comedy. Maisie Peters has announced her much-anticipated third studio album, Florescence. Co-produced with 2x Grammy Award winner Ian Fitchuk (Kacey Musgraves, Beyoncé, Chris Stapleton) and featuring duets with Julia Michaels and Marcus Mumford, the album arrives two years after her chart-topping breakthrough The Good Witch. Florescence arrives on Friday 15 May and is available to pre-order now, alongside a trailer directed by Amelia Dimoldenberg.
After a whirlwind few years that saw Maisie open for Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Conan Gray, and Noah Kahan, headline her own world tours, and make her Glastonbury debut, she found herself almost constantly on the road. By the end of 2024, the pace had become unsustainable, affecting Maisie physically and mentally, and so she made the decision to step back – pressing pause on the popstar carousel and returning home to reconnect with her life offstage. That quieter chapter gave her space to reset, grounding her not just as a person, but as an artist. It was during this time that the emotional heart of Florescence quietly took shape.
That return to herself was reflected not only in her life, but in the music. Led by her love of storytelling, Maisie headed to Nashville, where she wrote and recorded much of the album. Reuniting with longtime collaborator Ian Fitchuk – whom she first worked with in 2020 – felt like a natural fit. Together, they crafted the album’s warm, textured sound, with Fitchuk supporting Maisie as she stepped into the role of co-producer for the first time.
Drawing from the aftermath of the relationship explored on The Good Witch, as well as the love story she’s now living – having fallen in love with her high school sweetheart – Florescence reflects on how the right love can help heal the wrong ones. It’s an album about perspective, self-realisation, healing, and ultimately, learning how to flourish.
“These 15 tracks depict a blossoming of myself from ages 23 to 25 and a blossoming of a true, real love that anchors both me and this record. It tells the story of the last few long winters, with all of their villains and thorns, heartbreaks and rains, and it leads you, by the end, into a perfect English spring, into the hope and catharsis that comes when the first wildflower blooms,” shares Maisie. “This album feels like a true representation of healing, of finding hope, peace, and strength not just in somebody else, but in yourself. It is knowing that there was a point to all the sadness of before, and the point is the woman you see in this mirror now, and the person you see by her side.”
Fresh from her intimate, instantly sold-out shows in London and New York, Maisie is marking the album announcement with a new run of global ‘Before The Bloom’ theatre dates, designed to mirror Florescence’s closeness and vulnerability. Kicking off on 2 March at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre, the tour will travel through Australia, East Asia, Europe, the UK, America, and Canada – see the full itinerary below, and access ticket here.
Stay tuned for Maisie’s new single, ‘My Regards’, out Friday 6 February.

Between Mount Vesuvius and the Gulf of Naples, the ground shakes periodically and the fumaroles of the Phlegraean Fields taint the air. From the traces of history, memories of the subterranean world, and the concerns of the present, in black and white, a lesser-known Naples emerges and fills with voices, with lives.
From award-winning filmmaker Gianfranco Rosi comes Pompei: Below the Clouds, a striking and human portrait of Naples, a city forever marked by the looming presence of Mount Vesuvius. While the volcano’s quiet threat lingers in the background, Rosi turns his lens toward the everyday rhythms of life that continue undisturbed. Archaeologists carefully brush away centuries of dust to reveal fragments of history, children recite lessons as the earth hums beneath their feet, and firefighters stand ready for the next call.
Through these intimate moments and sweeping imagery, the film reveals a community that has learned to live with uncertainty. The result is a portrait at once local and universal: a reflection on humanity’s capacity to live, love, and rebuild in the shadow of the unimaginable.
As with his earlier films (Fire at Sea, Notturno), Gianfranco Rosi’s latest is a masterful act of cinematic immersion. Shot in and around Naples over the course of three years as Rosi embedded himself in the communities in and around Vesuvius, Pompei: Below the Clouds marks his first black-and-white feature in over thirty years. In 2013, his film Sacro GRA was the first ever documentary to be awarded the Golden Lion.
Pompei: Below the Clouds is written and directed by Gianfranco Rosi, cinematography and sound is by Gianfranco Rosi, editing by Fabrizio Federico in collaboration with Joe Bini and music by Academy Award® winner Daniel Blumberg. The film is produced by Donatella Palermo, Gianfranco Rosi, Paolo Del Brocco, 21Uno Film srl, Stemal Entertainment srl, with Rai Cinema.
MUBI WILL RELEASE POMPEI: BELOW THE CLOUDS IN CANADA ON MARCH 27, 2026
Disowned at birth by his obscenely wealthy family, blue-collar Becket Redfellow (Glen Powell) will stop at nothing to reclaim his inheritance, no matter how many relatives stand in his way.

Today, Melanie Martinez returns with “POSSESSION,” a candy-coated gut punch from the multi-platinum, multi-hyphenate global alt-pop phenomenon. With razor sharp lyricism tucked inside glossy melodies, the track peels back the ways power can masquerade as love. The song is haunting, satirical and spotlights Melanie’s trademark blend of charm, mischief and bite. Welcome to Melanie Martinez’s new world order – Cry Baby is dead.
Listen to “POSSESSION” HERE
With 30 billion+ global streams, 5.54 billion official YouTube views and 62.2 million+ followers across platforms, Melanie Martinez has stretched, shaped, and molded alternative pop into an immersive, innovative, and inimitable world of her own design. Since emerging in 2012, the New York-born Latin-American singer, songwriter, director, and visionary has not only blurred the lines between genres, but also between reality and fantasy, beckoning audiences into the warm embrace of her singular artistry. Martinez broke ground with her iconic 2015 debut LP, CRY BABY. The 2x-Platinum album, celebrated its 10th anniversary last year and is mother to the 3x-Platinum “Dollhouse,” 2x-Platinum staples “Pity Party,” “Play Date” “Pacify Her,” “Carousel,” “Mad Hatter,” and “Soap,” and Platinum favorites “Training Wheels,” “Sippy Cup,” “Alphabet Boy,” and “Tag, You’re It.” After vaulting to #6 on the Billboard 200, this debut has gone on to log 208 non-consecutive weeks on the chart. In its wake, she notched two consecutive Top 3 debuts on the Billboard 200 with the Platinum-certified K-12 (2019) and PORTALS (2023). All three albums debuted #1 on the Billboard Alternative chart. Upon release of K-12 Melanie also made her film debut with an accompanying musical of the same name which upon its release was #6 at the box office world-wide. On her tour for this record, she donated a dollar of every ticket to The Trevor Project. PORTALS debuted on The Billboard 200 at #2 and spawned “VOID” and “DEATH,” her first original songs to debut on the Billboard Hot 100. 2023 also saw Melanie release a perfume line in partnership with Flower Shop Perfumes. This is after her original perfume, CRY BABY, which was self-released in 2016, was a sold-out success. The collection has since expanded to include candles, body sprays, and perfume pendants. Her fragrances have quickly emerged as a standout in the category, ranking among the top five best sellers at ScentBar, the nation’s leading indie fragrance retailer. In 2024, Martinez embarked on her first-ever global arena headline tour, The Trilogy Tour, packing legendary venues on multiple continents, including sold-out successive nights at NYC’s Madison Square Garden. 2024 also saw the artist headline the world-famous Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago and the Corona Capital Festival in Mexico City.
