Sci-fi fans, prepare for a giant-sized adventure. Japan’s pop-culture juggernaut Ultraman lands on Super Channel Fuse this July with Shin Ultraman, a modern reimagining of the original 1966 television series. Part homage and part reboot, the film brings epic battles, larger-than-life creatures and one of Japan’s most enduring heroes to Canadian audiences. As the threat of giant unidentified lifeforms known as “S-Class Species” worsens in Japan, a silver giant appears from beyond Earth’s atmosphere. Shin Ultraman premieres Friday, July 24 at 9pm on Super Channel Fuse and is available on Demand the same day.
Directed by Shinji Higuchi and written/produced by Hideaki Anno, the duo behind Shin Godzilla, Shin Ultraman is fun and stylistically bold, featuring Japanese stars Takumi Saitoh, Masami Nagasawa, and Hidetoshi Nishijima. Praised by critics and audiences alike, the film earned four nominations and four awards at the Japan Academy Film Prize, Japan’s equivalent of the Academy Awards.
