It’s a fantastic opening for ZOOTOPIA 2, debuting atop the Box Office with $93 million from 4,000 theatres this U.S. Thanksgiving weekend for Disney. This bests its predecessor which opened in 2016 to the tune of $75 million. Justin Waldman‘s review here.
WICKED: FOR GOOD is de-throned but going strong still with a second weekend of $61 million for Universal Pictures, a stellar two-week run of $268.4 million!
In third is NOW YOU SEE ME: NOW YOU DON’T with $7.7 million for Lionsgate/Cineplex Pictures, a total $50.6 million grossed to date.
PREDATOR: BADLANDS is in fourth with $5 million, a total $85.4 million for 20th Century Studios.
Rounding things off is THE RUNNING MAN with $4.7 million, a three-week run of $35.2 million for Paramount Pictures.
It’s a record-breaking opening for WICKED: FOR GOOD, which proves too good for its opposition, with a smashing $151.5 million opening from 4,115 theatres for Universal Pictures. This installment now holds the title of biggest opening ever for a feature Broadway adaptation – besting its predecessor which previously held the same distinction. This bests the previous film in the Franchise which opened last year with $112.5 million. It gets a 70% on the Tomatometer.
Second up is last week’s champ, NOW YOU SEE ME: NOW YOU DON’T, taking $9.4 million for Cineplex Pictures/Lionsgate. It grosses $37.1 million over two weekends domestically.
Third is PREDATOR: BADLANDS with $6.2 million, a total $76.2 million for 20th Century Studios, over three weekends.
THE RUNNING MAN takes $6 million, a two-week run of $27.2 million for Paramount Pictures.
RENTAL FAMILY debuts in fifth with $3.2 million for Searchlight Pictures. Starring Brendan Fraser, this gets 87% on the Tomatometer.
NOW YOU SEE ME: NOW YOU DON’T debuts atop the Box Office with $21.3 million from 3,300 theatres for Lionsgate/Cineplex Pictures. This third film in the Franchise gets 58% on the Tomatometer. Biggest opening for the Franchise still belongs to the 2013 first film, with $29 million.
Second is THE RUNNING MAN with $17 million from 3,400 theatres for Paramount Pictures. The Stephen King adaptation directed by Edgar Wright, gets 64% on the Tomatometer,
Landing in third after a reign last weekend is PREDATOR: BADLANDS with $14 million from 3,725 theatres, for 20th Century Studios. Thus far, it has grossed $67.3 million.
Fourth goes to REGRETTING YOU with $4 million, a total $44.9 million for Paramount Pictures.
Rounding things off, we have KEEPER with $3 million from 1,950 theatres for NEON/Elevation Pictures. This latest Horror from Oz Perkins, gets 51% on the Tomatometer.
Edgar Wright gets a big welcome back to a City that adores him. Having shot fan favourite Scott Pilgram vs. The World here, he has come back time and again to express his gratitude and premiered Last Night in Soho at tiff a few years back.
He is back with his adaptation of Stephen King‘s THE RUNNING MAN, a high-octane, high-adrenaline thrill ride starring Glen Powell as a desperate man willing to risk it all for money on a televised game of hide and seek. He realizes soon that the game and network are corrupt, designed to make him fail, before realizing his purpose. This Action-Thriller was filmed over 165 separate locations. It’s ambitious, edge-of-your-seat fun! Once again, Wright delivers!
Wright’s gratitude to Toronto knows no bounds. Not only did he appear at TIFF Lightbox for a Members’ Screening with In-Conversation, he also surprised a theatre full of fans at an Advance Screening of the Film at Scotiabank Theatre earlier in the evening as well. Above this, he was gracious spending time with fans taking selfies and signing autographs.
A quick review and highlights of Wright‘s In-Conversation at TIFF Lightbox:

Desperate to save his sick daughter, working-class Ben Richards (Glen Powell) is convinced by the show’s charming but ruthless producer, Dan Killian (Josh Brolin), to enter the game as a last resort.
