He strikes up an unlikely friendship with a washed-up and alcoholic steeplechase jockey who helps him by pointing him in the right direction which is understanding his potential.

Anna Sewell wrote the book to raise awareness about animal welfare and it was an immediate bestseller. The 1994 film model stars Sean Bean and David Thewliss, with Alan Cumming because of the voice of Black Beauty.
