TONY and GRAMMY Award Winner Ben Platt is a star on the rise. Originating the titular role in widely-acclaimed and Toronto-bound DEAR EVAN HANSEN on Broadway, he is getting plenty of buzz for his starring role in Writer/Director Ricky Tollman‘s RUN THIS TOWN. He also has starred in the successful PITCH PERFECT Franchise and also THE BOOK OF MORMON.
RUN THIS TOWN stars Damian Lewis (Billions, Homeland) as Rob Ford and also Nina Dobrev and Mena Massoud, the latter who recently wrapped Disney‘s upcoming live-action adaptation of Aladdin in which he stars in the title role.
Synopsis:
Run This Town follows a young journalist (Platt), desperate to prove himself, who catches wind of a scandal involving a flashy, unpredictable politician with no filter (Lewis). Political aides (Massoud and Dobrev) attempt to keep their boss in check – and the story under wraps – in order to save their jobs. The Film tells the story of the Millennial generation while spotlighting the power dynamics operating in today’s workplace.
Platt has drummed-up a bit of controversy being targeted with criticism online from some who have mistakened the Film as being a biographical account of Ford‘s life, not crediting the outstanding investigative journalism of Robyn Dolittle. It has been confirmed that the Film is in fact fictional, set against the backdrop of a Ford-run Toronto.
We spotted Platt after a day of hard work in what is a compressed filming schedule, set to complete in under one month. He was awesome to stop for a Snap, as was Massoud, who just arrived from Los Angeles, greeted by hoards of fans and autograph seekers upon arrival. A hero’s welcome home for the Toronto talent.

It is believed this Film is targetting a premiere at TIFF ’18 and we need to see this! Elevation Pictures will be handling its release in Canada.

Amidst all the controversy surrounding Toronto Mayor Rob Ford‘s much-publicized appearance on Jimmy Kimmel, the Late Night Television Host cleared the air about matters last night, not wanting any bad blood with Canada. Although Ford had hoped to promote Tourism in Toronto – and failing at that mind you- Kimmel more than makes-up for it here.
“Toronto is one of the greatest Cities” he says, before showing us a hilarious factually-incorrect Tour of Toronto by his Sidekick Guillermo back in 2011.
It is a bit trippy I must say, seeing them drive through Entertainment District and you’ll never, ever believe where they end up!

Too funny!

Last night was Lady Gaga‘s first official time hosting NBC‘s Saturday Night Live after multiple appearances in previous years as a Musical Guest… and she was phenomenal! Absolutely born for the stage!
Among the several highlights last night were some hilarious Sketches which saw her acknowledging criticism from her harshest Detractors. Fully aware of the Madonna comparisons, Gaga appeared on a Sketch about the worst Cover Versions of all time, with her performing her Hit Born this Way while the words Express Yourself were captioned on the Screen. Sometimes the greatest Singers make mistakes!
Watch:
In addition to this, Gaga poked fun at rumours of her declining popularity with a Sketch which sees her in the year 2063 as an older version of herself, hoping with all her might a Delivery Man (Kenan Thompson) would be be starstruck by her presence. Let’s just say he’s a huge Fan of Empress Beyoncé.
Watch:
Gaga also dropped a few jaws, bringing R. Kelly on-stage for a surprise rendition of current Single Do What U Want. There was plenty of crawling, laying, bumping and grinding to be seen.
Watch:
If there was any doubt Gaga is still a huge Megastar, see her stopping traffic following her appearance last night outside NBC‘s Studios.
