#NEWMUSIC: ORVILLE PECK ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM “MULE”

Today, Orville Peck shares the next single from his highly anticipated album Mule, a candid, chronological account of the trailblazing country artist’s journey through addiction and recovery. Out now, “Already Gone” is one of the most rowdy songs on the project, but the feel-good mood masks some dark feelings, capturing the moment Peck enters rehab. “Already Gone” lands early in the album’s story, when I first entered the rehab facility. I accepted the decision to seek treatment but deep down I believed I didn’t have a problem. The video reflects my arrogant mindset as I picture the experience as a lighthearted musical, while in reality, I was in total crisis” says Peck.

Produced by Jay Joyce (Patty Griffin, Eric Church) and written by Peck with Jacob Portrait (Alex G, Porches), “Already Gone” gets its swaggering brightness and infectious clap-along joy from Peck’s ace five-piece band, while bluegrass luminaries Molly Tuttle and Ketch Secor (Old Crow Medicine Show), plus Ry Jennings, lend their gifts to the reverie-like bridge.

For his part, Peck struts and strides over the upbeat instrumentation, sounding downright triumphant as he shouts, “Ohh-hoo! Put me in the slammer!” But the verses nod to some heavier truths and complex emotions: “Lonesome heart by design, broken head in decline / Telling anyone who’ll listen, it’ll all be fine / Just one more man at the end of his line.”

The “Already Gone” video vividly brings the song’s central contrast to life, finding Peck whiling away the hours in a rehab facility. We see the difficult day-to-day work of getting sober: therapy sessions, urine tests, an endless parade of tiny paper pill cups. But in other moments, the visual tips into gloriously choreographed fantasy as orderlies clap and shimmy in time, fellow residents twist and twirl, and Peck is joined by his band in the dayroom. Noah Cyrus, Allison Russel and Cathy Cooper make their third appearance in their re-occurring roles as the three figments of Orville’s mind.

Afterward, the clip ends with an important message, directing any viewers who are struggling or in crisis — or know someone else who is — to contact the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988, or The Trevor Project (for LGBTQ+ youth) by texting “START” to 678-678.

Peck announced Mule last month in grand fashion. First, he shared “Prologue (Eulogy Of A Man Turned Mule)” which features vocals and appearances by Cyrus, Russel and Emmylou Harris (who is played by Cathy Cooper in the video). In the song’s video, the trio don black veils and nurse uniforms (in brief cut-aways to the “Already Gone” rehab facility) as they sing Peck’s would-be eulogy. It’s a beautifully bleak ending that, it turns out, represents a beginning.

As Peck recently shared in an in-depth interview with Rolling Stone, Mule unfolds as a timeline of the year that reshaped his life, starting with a moment in which he nearly lost everything. The result, according to the magazine, is “his best, most realized, album yet.” Told with unflinching honesty, humor, and heart, Mule finds Peck confronting love, loss, and identity through songs that move fluidly between classic country storytelling, bluegrass, and expansive Americana.

Ahead of the album’s release, Peck will give fans an intimate first look at Mule at San Francisco’s iconic Castro Theatre on September 12. On September 18, Peck will headline the legendary Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. The North American Man Turned Mule Tour, promoted by Live Nation, will continue through November 22 in Huntington, New York, with Nashville singer-songwriter Abbie Callahan joining the tour beginning October 28.

Peck also released the single “Too Little, Too Late,” which hails from the redemptive back half of the set and finds him dancing toward the finish line. The country-pop banger embodies what it feels like to be finally secure with who you are — and is also about having moved on when your ex comes crawling back after you’ve healed. It came with an appropriately raucous video.

#NEWMUSIC: ORVILLE PECK – “DRIFT AWAY” NEW SINGLE

Today, trailblazing country artist Orville Peck releases his epic new single “Drift Away” and announces his highly anticipated forthcoming project, the Appaloosa EP, out November 14 on Warner Records — pre-save HERE. With cinematic flair and sky-scraping vocals, “Drift Away” is an invitation to escape the mundane and a powerful start to a new era. Listen HERE .

“Drift Away” opens on lonesome guitar and Peck’s iconic voice as he paints a vivid picture of small-town ennui in the post-pandemic era: “Watch the kids ridin’ shotgun roads, in ’21 all the movies closed, high and dry they got nowhere else to go.” He captures the restlessness of youth and the quest for belonging, before offering relief on the soaring chorus: “It’s not about gettin’ out, it’s about lettin’ go, don’t ya know? Drift away with me, drift away with me.” The huge hook is cowboy crooner gold, with a little Pixies and Elvis Presley thrown in for good measure.

The new music lands during an incredibly momentous year for Peck. Next month, he’s throwing his 7th Annual Rodeo, running November 14-16 in Pioneertown, CA, at Pappy & Harriet’s, and featuring performances from Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Joy Oladokun, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Allison Russell, and more. Beyond curating the entire experience — which includes nightly afterparties and a drag brunch hosted by Meatball — Peck will play a different set each day, notably headlining on Saturday, November 15. Peck has also been making massive inroads on stage and screen, having just wrapped filming on the star-studded 2026 Street Fighter movie, in which he plays the masked assassin Vega. Moreover, this summer he made his Broadway debut in a five-month, 128-show run of Cabaret. Peck’s performance as the Emcee drew rave reviews, including from VOGUE who wrote, “He makes an absurdly successful Emcee — with an intuitive command of the line between desire and menace that rivals, if we’re honest, that of Joel Grey and Alan Cumming.” NPR called his portrayal of the role “beautiful and full of longing,” while PLAYBILL gushed, “There’s a certain power in a persona, and few modern musicians have wielded it as effectively as Orville Peck.”

“Drift Away” is notably Peck’s return to solo songcraft. In recent months, he’s teamed up with Noah Cyrus for “Love Is a Canyon,” and Kesha for “Tennessee” also featuring Hudson Mohawke and Tayla Parx. The latter will appear on the album All Things Go: 10 Years, out November 7, with all proceeds benefitting Jack and Rachel Antonoff’s The Ally Coalition.

And last year, of course, Peck dropped his eclectic and acclaimed duets album Stampede, featuring collaborations with Kylie Minogue and Diplo on “Midnight Ride,” Beck on “Death Valley High,” and Willie Nelson for a cover of “Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond of Each Other.” The project pushes the boundaries of country by creating a unique, genre-blurring blend of styles with each artist on the guest list, which also includes Elton John, Teddy Swims, Midland, Margo Price, Molly Tuttle, Cyrus, Rateliff, Russell, and many, many more.

Last week, Peck announced his 6th annual Rodeo, featuring performances from Medium Build, Mickey Guyton, Reyna Roberts, The Nude Party and more, in addition to a headline set from Peck & Tanya Tucker. Hosted by John Waters, the rodeo will take place on August 24 at Nashville’s Ascend Amphitheater, with a kickoff party at Basement East on August 23 and a closing party at Brooklyn Bowl on August 25.
