He’s a Star of the Ice, and today he was a Star of Ice… Cream! The Toronto Maple Leafs’ Alternative Captain Joffrey Lupul was turning-up the heat over at the Magnum Pleasure Shop (11 Bloor Street West) today, doing a round of Interviews on premises. Shortly after 12:00 PM the doors were opened and a flood of Fans, primarily Female and dressed in their Leafs jerseys, came through the Shop getting a chance to meet the #19 Hunk. Make no mistake though, Fans big and small were accommodated as he graciously signed hats and jerseys for his youngest Supporters first.
Lupul is a Man of taste and as a fellow “Pleasure Seeker”, he dishes to me what he likes on his own customized Magnum Ice Cream Bar. “I put Maple Canadian Fudge, Popcorn and Chocolate on mine!”, he tells me as a crowd of Fans inched closer towards him.
Those of you who haven’t had a chance yet to check-out the Pop-Up Shop will be thrilled to know that based on its overwhelmingly positive reception (there are Line-ups out the door daily!), it will remain open now till the end of August. Even that still is not long enough as several hoping the Pleasure Shop will become a permanent fixture in the City. Myself included.
What did I put on my Ice Cream Bar? My taste buds went into overdrive with my combination of Sea Salt, Dark Chocolate, Coconut, Macadamia Nuts, Almonds and Chili Flakes, topped with a few Parisian Macaron Crumbs. Did I mentioned the real Gold Flakes sprinkled on top? TDF. To die for!

There was pleasure to be had. With just over two weeks left before Yorkville says farewell to the Magnum Pleasure Store, I was thrilled to be invited to a Media Preview of the Shop this morning. In attendance today was none other than amazing Celebrity Chef, Mark McEwan, Head Judge of Top Chef Canada and the Man behind two of Toronto’s finest Restaurants, ONE and North 44. And have you visited his super-upscale McEwan Fine Foods at Shops at Don Mills? It is Culinary Heaven.
“I wasn’t sure what I was walking into when I was told I’d be coming to the Magnum Pleasure Store“, he jokes about the Pop-Up Shop which bears the same name as a popular Prophylactic. Although McEwan was a bit heavy-handed with the Chili Flakes the first time around – just one of 21 toppings available for customizable Ice Cream Bars – he seemed to have found his balance upon attempt number two, opting for Vanilla Ice Cream dipped in Dark Chocolate, Toffee, Chili Flakes and Sea Salt, dressed in a light White Chocolate Drizzle. “I chose from a classic standpoint with some Italian and French flavours”, he says.
Although I spot the Scotsman, his lovely Wife Roxanne and their adorable Dog Ruthie often in Yorkville (she and Billy having exchanged greetings many a time) it was nice having a proper chat with him today discussing Dogs and Ice Cream. Last time I spoke to McEwan, he was strict on not feeding Ruthie Human food, but it appears he’s budged a bit on the matter, occasionally giving her meat as a treat. I didn’t even go into Billy‘s all-human-grade food diet!
What’s in a Mr. Will Ice Cream Bar, you ask? I devoured my Vanilla Ice Cream Bar dipped in Dark Chocolate and coated with crushed Parisian Macarons, Dried Strawberries, Coconut and Rose Petals, with a light White Chocolate Drizzle. It was beautiful to both the eye and palate!
Actor Joe Manganiello was in Toronto just last week to launch the Shop. More on that here. Word is, he opted for Maple and Bacon toppings on his Ice Cream Bar, paying homage to our national flavours! Hockey Star Joffrey Lupul is expected to visit the Shop soon, as are Fashion Designers Greta Constantine.

Ice Cream may sure cool you down, but Joe Manganiello certainly will turn your temperatures up! The Actor best known for his work on top-rated HBO Series True Blood and Magic Mike is in Toronto today doing Press for Magnum Ice Cream, which in previous years has brought in Talent like Ivanka Trump and Rachel Bilson for their introduction to the Canadian market.
Arriving last night in the City, Manganiello made visits bright and early before 7:00 AM to City‘s Breakfast Television, where Fans outside the Studio were delighted to get free samples from him. He later head over to Canada AM at CTV‘s Studios in Scarborough and then taped an Interview, to air at a later date on Global Television‘s The Morning Show, where I caught-up with him quickly, looking extremely sharp in a light gray Suit. Watch his Breakfast Television Appearance here.
Later tonight, Manganiello will visit the Magnum Pleasure Store on 11 Bloor Street West for its launch and he and his Entourage earlier today were spotted on Bloor Street walking over to the temporary Shop, which was covered-up and closed for business in preparation of tonight’s Festivities. Performers from the Cirque du Soleil also will appear tonight. The Store opens till July 28, 2013.

Amazing news! Magnum Ice Cream just about surprised us all with a Flagship Store in Yorkville, which was unveiled today! Situated in 11 Bloor Street West, at the intersection of Yonge x Bloor, the Shop is a welcome addition to strip lacking in Food/Confectionery options. The Shop, which has sister stores throughout the World in Cities like Milan and Amsterdam, gives Ice Cream Lovers the opportunity to customize with decadence, their own Ice Cream Bars.
“Yes, we just opened today!”, says a Store Rep to me over the Phone. He confirms to be their hours currently are Monday-Saturday 11 AM – 9 PM and Sundays 11 AM – 6 PM.
