After wowing Audiences at the Tribeca Film Festival, A Birder’s Guide to Everything will premiere at TIFF‘s Next Wave Festival here in the City!
On the eve of his widowed Father’s second wedding, fifteen-year-old David Portnoy (Smit-McPhee) leads the stalwart members of his local Young Birders Society on a rollicking, interstate search for an extremely rare duck. Marvelous supporting performances by Ben Kingsley and James Le Gros color Director Rob Meyer‘s Feature Film Debut, a poignant, funny and ultimately winning look at the moments that change even the most intensely focused lives.
A Birder’s Guide to Everything also stars Breakout Actress Katie Chang (The Bling Ring).

This delights me so! After premiering earlier today at the Cannes Film Festival, Sofia Coppola‘s latest effort The Bling Ring, based on true events surrounding a group of Teens who masterminded the burglary of several Celebrity homes, debuts with plenty of praise! I admit, things were looking a bit iffy there with 2010’s plodding Somewhere.
Here’s what some of the Critics are saying about The Bling Ring:
“An unexpected pleasure” – The Guardian
“Sofia Coppola’s most provocative Film yet” – Entertainment Weekly
“The Parents are awful, the Teenagers are repulsive and the Celebrities are removed from reality, but no one gets away clean in Sofia Coppola‘s brilliant Movie” – The Wrap
“The acting is so authentic that it takes a while to differentiate the girls… As such, it will attain a certain stature itself as a Cultural Artifact but without stirring significant interest artistically or commercially.” – The Hollywood Reporter
“Though it lacks the name cast and self-consciously outre style of another recent girls-gone-wild opus, Spring Breakers, this lively and fascinating pic should score well with its target hipster demo…” – Variety
As an aside, we saw Coppola last week at the Met Gala in New York City with Marc Jacobs. More on that here!

I LOVE SOFIA COPPOLA! It’s about time we get a new Film from one of my favourite Directors and The Bling Ring has that distinct neon-coloured West Coast Flare Coppola’s become synonymous with. Based on true events, the Dramedy centers around a ground of Teens who used the Internet to track the whereabouts of Celebrities via Twitter and Facebook, before robbing their homes between October 2008 through August 2009. Over 50 homes were invaded including the likes of Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Rachel Bilson, Orlando Bloom/Miranda Kerr, Audrina Patridge and Brian Austin Green/Megan Fox.
Taissa Farmiga, Katie Chang, Leslie Mann, Gavin Rossdale and Emma Watson star. Hilton even makes a Cameo.
