Neighbors exceeds all expectations with a massive debut this weekend, totalling $51.1 million from 3,279 theatres for Universal Pictures. The Comedy teaming Zac Efron and Seth Rogen not only did well with Critics with a 75% rating on the Tomatometer, but it also fared positively with Audiences, getting an a A CinemaScore.
The Amazing Spider-Man in its second week slips to second spot for Sony Pictures with $37 million. In its two-week run it has grossed a healthy $147 million domestically.
The Other Woman finds itself in third spot in its third week out with $9.6 million for 20th Century Fox. The Comedy starring Leslie Mann, Cameron Diaz and Kate Upton just surpassed the $60 million mark also domestically this weekend.
Religious Drama Heaven is Real continues to go strong in fourth in its fourth week out with $7 million earned for Sony Pictures.
Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return debuts in eighth spot with a disappointing $4 million for Clarius Entertainment. Despite getting a great A CinemaScore from Audiences, the Animated Feature featuring the voice work of Lea Michele, got only 15% on the Tomatometer.
Mom’s Night Out, timed right in-time for Mother’s Day Weekend, opens with $4.1 million for Sony Pictures in its debut. Critics gave it a paltry 17% on the Tomatometer, while Audiences gave it an X Cinemascore. The Comedy has yet to get a Canadian release.
Divergent in its eighth week out, rounds-out the Top Ten with $1.6 million. To date it has earned $145 million in North American for Lionsgate Films/eOne Films.
Who said Rom-Coms were dead? The Other Woman takes the top of the Box Office this weekend across North America, earning $24.7 million from 3,204 theatres in its debut for 20th Century Fox. Starring Leslie Mann, Kate Upton and Cameron Diaz, the Comedy centers around three Women who are all involved with the same Man. Audiences gave it a solid B+ Cinemascore, while Critics gave it a 25% on the Tomatometer only.
Former Champ Captain America: The Winter Soldier in its fourth week slips to second with $15.9 million, making it surpass $223 million in earnings, breaking the Record for highest-grossing April release of all time.
Heaven is Real continues to be highly bankable for Sony Pictures, in third this weekend with $13.9 million in its second week out. It just broke the $50-million mark in North America.
Rio 2 finds itself in fourth for 20th Century Fox also, with $12.7 million, just ahead of VVS Films/Relativity Media‘s Brick Mansions which opens in fifth spot with $9.6 million. The Montreal-made Film is one of Paul Walker‘s final Films, getting a 28% rating on the Tomatometer and a B+ CinemaScore.
The Quiet Ones opens in eighth spot for Lionsgate Films/eOne Films with a 39% on the Tomatometer and a C+ CinemaScore. The Horror stars Sam Claflin and Jared Harris.
A Haunted House 2 rounds-out the Top Ten with $2.8 million for Open Road Films/VVS Films in its second week out.
