Global Pop superstar Jackson Wang was back in Toronto last night, bringing his Magicman 2 World Tour to Coca-Cola Coliseum. The Got7 member has found solo success, releasing three albums on his Team Wang label and packed the house last night on the tour in support of his third Disc.
Starting punctually a little after 8 PM, we were wondering how he would fill a show with 14 songs, but in the end he almost broke curfew, spending an hour on-stage after his last song, “Made Me a Man“, connecting with and hyping-up his fans. One part of the show was a performance, focusing mostly on new material, so sorry to those of you wanting to hear one of his biggest hits stateside, “LMLY“. The other part was all about fan connection, and sharing his truth.
It appears that Wang was and is still coping with some unhappiness, opting for dark themes with eye makeup in the Tour’s visuals. He ends on a more heartfelt note, a tribute to his parents, imparting his truth on the audience that they work hard and deserve fun, and that they should love themselves, and not worry about having quantity of friends, but more quality of friends. He references a year he took off to focus on himself, and now here we are.
The Show climaxed when he encouraged fans to get on-stage with him and at one point there was 600 fans on-stage, before encouraged fans in the “nosebleeds” to come down. It was choas in the most well-meaning way.
Wang sounded and looked great, a true showman, mastering the demanding choreography which saw him seducing four lucky fans on-stage, over three numbers, “Shadows on the Wall,” “Contact”, and “Closer”, and being suspended in the air even in the show’s opening.
It’s hard to imagine anyone feeling anything but satiated at this show, with Wang giving himself entirely to the audience. He even took off his shirt and had his entire band and crew of dancers do the same,.celebrating this has final North American date on the Magicman 2 World Tour.
