An incredible opening weekend for SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE debuting with $113.5 million 4,313 theatres for Sony Pictures. Its 2018 predecessor, Oscar-winning SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE, debuted with a much more modest $38 million. The love from fans and moviegoers really speaks to high expectaions from that last film. And critically it doesn’t disappoint with 95% on the Tomatometer.
In second is Disney‘s THE LITTLE MERMAID with $44 million from 4,320 theatres, a two week total of $189.7 million.
Third is GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 with $10.5 million, taking it to $322 million for Marvel/Disney domestically.
Taking fourth spot is THE BOOGEYMAN, debuting with $10 million from 3,205 theatres for 20th Century Studios. Critically it gets a passing 60% on the Tomatometer.
At the bottom of the Top Five is FAST X with $8.3 million for Universal Pictures, a total $127.5 million.

By Monday, it is expected to gross $125 million this U.S. Memorial Day weekend. It gets generally favourable reviews with 67% on the Tomatometer. This is a far cry from its animated predecessor’s $6 million opening in 1989.
Second is FAST X with $21.8 million for the three day weekend, taking its two week total to $112.1 million for Universal Pictures.
In third is GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 with $20 million, a run of $306 million for Marvel/Disney over four weekends.
Fourth is THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE with $6.2 million for Universal Pictures, a tally of $560 million domestically over eight weekends.
THE MACHINE opens at the bottom of the Top Five with $2.6 million for Sony Pictures. The Action-Comedy gets 29% on the Tomatometer.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 still is going strong in its third weekend with $33 million from 4,450 theatres for Marvel/Disney. This brings its run to $267.2 million.
Third is THE SUPER MARIOS BROS. MOVIE with $9.5 million for Universal Pictures, a run of $549 million. Staggering. The Blockbuster just got a digital release this week as well to propel it along further.
BOOK CLUB: THE NEXT CHAPTER is in fourth with $3 million in its second weekend out, a total $13 million for Focus Features/Universal Pictures.
EVIL DEAD RISE rounds the Top Five out with $2.2 million, bringing its tally to $63.9 million for Warner Bros.
