Twenty-five years ago, four grateful Hobbits left the Shire and changed the face of fantasy forever. In 2026, Sean Astin, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, and Elijah Wood will reunite with fans for An Evening with the Hobbits: In Celebration of 25 Years, a once-in-a-quarter-century celebration tour that will be featured at 11 FAN EXPO HQ shows across North America – including in Toronto, August 29 at FAN EXPO Canada, August 27–30, 2026.

More than a reunion and so much more than a panel, An Evening with the Hobbits is part variety show, part storytelling session, and all fun. No two nights will be the same — fans can expect a lively mix of behind-the-scenes memories, on-stage antics, heartfelt reflections, and plenty of laughs along the way. From inside jokes and surprise moments to the friendships that still shine 25 years later, this one-of-a-kind event promises a celebration as unexpected — and joyful — as a Hobbit feast.

At a recent FAN EXPO appearance, Elijah Wood offered these thoughts on the anniversary: “To be celebrating this milestone – a quarter of a century – just feels abstract. It still feels like the films are really present. The fact that we’re spending this kind of time (at conventions with fans and doing shows like this), it keeps it so fresh for us. It’s such a massive, continual part of our lives.”

Tickets for An Evening with the Hobbits: In Celebration of 25 Years at FAN EXPO Canada will be on sale October 22 at 10 AM local time via https://fanexpohq.com/fanexpocanada/. FAN EXPO CANADA is back and better than ever this weekend at Metro Toronto Convention Centre! The four-day celebration of Fandom has come to be synonymous with the end of summer in the City, running August 21 to August 24, 2025. Over 100,000 people are expected to attend this year, with guests utilizing the opportunity to connect with like-minded lovers of Sci-Fi, Gaming, Horror, Cosplay, Animation, Comics and so much more. Fan Expo gives fans a chance to meet their beloved idols also, across multiple disciplines.

This year’s edition boasts several highlights across the Centre’s north and south buildings. This year marks Back to the Future‘s 40th anniversary and its stars have come to town to participate in panels, signings and photo ops, including Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd. The Cast of Netflix‘s WEDNESDAY also made a huge splash bringing the Series’ THE DOOM TOUR here to the City in promotion of its second season, part 2 arriving September 3, 2025 on the streaming service. In attendance were Joy Sunday, Georgie Farmer, and Isaac Ordonez, filling-up their hot ticket panel completely.

Another highlight were some branded activations in the South Building, including:

Paramount+’s Adventure to the Peak – guests were encouraged to complete a series of challenges, including sitting-in on a thrilling, immersive gondola ride, guided by their mascot, GOAT, reminding us of all the great titles available on the streaming service. Photo ops also were available with GOAT.

The Conjuring: Last Rites – Reflections of Evil – perhaps the most horrifying activation at the convention, fans walked through a scary mirror maze, and got a commemorative keepsake to celebrate the release of the eagerly-awaited new Horror film, out September 5, 2025.

Disney+ Throwback Experience – with a locker and closet backdrop, stars of Disney past were honoured at this activation, including Zendaya, Hillary Duff, Miley Cyrus, and so many more. Their earlier work can be streamed on service. A component also highlighted titles ALIEN: EARTH and PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS, with actors fully in-character to welcome guests.

TRON Lightcycle – a photo op on the famous vehicle for the upcoming October 10, 2025 release

Netflix Canada‘s WEDNESDAY Experience – inspired by the dark themes of this beloved Series, a moody photo op which saw its trio of Cast members drop in.

Cineplex Pictures – Now You See Me: Now You Don’t photo op gave guests a chance to celebrate the upcoming installment of the popular franchise, in theatres November 14, 2025.

Team Mr. Will had the chance to sit-in on some panels as well, and some key moments:

WEDNESDAY

Isaac Ordonez, Joy Sunday, and Georgie Farmer brought the energy up on Fan Expo Saturday, speaking to fans at a Panel, before popping-by Netflix Canada‘s Wednesday activation for photos. Ordonez continues to see his role as Pugsley expand on the Series and is thrilled to see the second season of the Series do as well as the first, taking the world by storm! Joy told fans that her Bianca is seeing the world close in on her and her character is in need of help in season two, part 2. Farmer explained that his Ajax is exploring his new-found confidence in part 2 and is eager to step-it-up.

BACK TO THE FUTURE

In celebration of the original film’s 40th anniversary, Mary Steenburgen and Bob Gale spoke at a Panel on Fan Expo Saturday. Steenburgen recalled Back to the Future Part III being very challenging and physical, working with horses and dust as part of its Western theme. Having loved the first film in the Franchise so much, she agreed right away to the third installment.

Gale comments how technology has advanced so much, and recalls even having to cut a car in half to film inside it, whereas today a GoPro would solve the problem simply!

SMALLVILLE

The Cast including Tom Welling, Kristen Kreuk, Laura Vandervoor, Erica Durance, and Michael Rosenbaum, reunited on-stage for a Panel. Welling told the audience he recalled a favourite fan interaction in Denver where a fan brought his wife and kids along to meet him. The fan handed Welling a picture of him on-set from years prior after a Make-a-Wish had granted him the opportunity, telling the Actor how much that meant to him in getting strong enough to battle his illness.

Rosenbaum never ceases to be surprised the response SMALLVILLE still gets to this day, where soldiers even will tell him how the Series inspired them to get through a war.

HEATHER LOCKLEAR

The Screen legend, known for her work on Melrose Place, Dynasty, and Spin City, admitted her favourite gig of all time was on Melrose Place, and says she prefers working in Television versus Film. She felt the latter was a lot of waiting around, whereas the former gave her the gratification of more naps on-set, and also the ability to see the finished work sooner. She indicated she has a new Podcast coming out this Fall.

HAILEE STEINFELD

The Academy Award-nominated Actress appears poised for another with her performance in Ryan Coogler‘s SINNERS, a critical and Box Office smash. She spoke about her process crafting that character and also Kate Bishop in the MCU, and the importance of not giving us fragments of a character, but a complete whole, relatable character.

“TRON: Ares” follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. Beings. FAN EXPO Canada have taken it to the next level today with the addition of wrestling legends Sting and Toronto’s own Trish Stratus to its 2025 lineup. Fans will have the chance to meet the Hall of Famers in person with exclusive autograph, selfie and photo opportunities.

Stratus, a pioneer in women’s wrestling, is celebrating an incredible 25 years in the ring. She’ll be joined by the icon, Sting, whose impact has spanned generations and continues to captivate fans worldwide.

They join an already star-studded guest line-up that includes the previously announced: Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Ewan McGregor, John Boyega, William Shatner, Mike Tyson, Heather Locklear, Mary Steenburgen, Juliette Lewis, Peggy the Dog, Jodie Whittaker, Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum, Peter Facinelli, Kellan Lutz, Jackson Rathbone and many more from the worlds of TV, film, anime and gaming.

From August 21–24, the Metro Toronto Convention Centre transforms into the ultimate multiverse meetup as FAN EXPO Canada takes over both the North and South buildings for four epic days of pop culture celebration.

An estimated 125k+ guests are expected to attend FAN EXPO CANADA 2024 at Toronto’s Metro Convention Centre. The end-of-summer fixture is a celebration of Fandom, bringing fans together in a packed four-day schedule of events that include panels, meet-ups, Cosplay, autograph signings and photo ops – a chance for fans to connect with their idols.

It is a star-studded year which welcomed a list of top talent to the event including the likes of Helen Hunt. Giancarlo Esposito, Simu Liu, Rosario Dawson, Josh Gad, Marisa Tomei, Bryce Dallas Howard, Kathryn Hahn, Joe Locke, Dolph Lundgren and more offering in-conversations, signings and photo ops to fans.

Highlights include:

-A Squishmallows activation giving guests a chance to pose for pics with the beloved plush characters, and also win dolls via claw machines; this saw the longest queues.

–Paramount+‘s The Lounge, an activation highlighting some of the streaming service’s top programming offerings with photo ops and a chance to putt to win a Sponge Bob toy in celebration of the beloved character’s 25th anniversary. TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS, STAR TREK: DISCOVERY, STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES and STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS also are highlighted.

–Prime Video Canada took guests into Middle-Earth giving guests a chance to make The Lord of The Rings-inspired resin rings at their activation.

–Marvel Studios Canada‘s AGATHA ALL ALONG booth with costumes, promoting the spinoff off Wandavision. Stars Kathryn Hahn, Joe Locke and Showrunner Jac Schaeffer made an appearance Friday night at Constitution Hall to give fans a taste of what’s to expect of the September 18, 2024 Disney+ Canada release.

-Director Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep) appears at TIFF Lightbox Saturday night for a Q&A following a screening of Oculus.

–Academy Award-winning Actress Helen Hunt appears at a Q&A for her hit film TWISTER at Cineplex Yonge & Dundas Saturday night.

-Special Screenings of Rick and Morty: The Anime and also Common Side Effects, which will arrive on Adult Swim and STACKTV

For the first time, the STAR TREK Menagerie makes its debut at THE LODGE at Fan Expo displaying creatures across renowned STAR TREK properties. Come one and all to get an up-close look at exciting specimens from STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS, STAR TREK: DISCOVERY, STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES, and more! Attendees can become part of the Menagerie as they enter the display for an immersive STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS, photo opportunity.

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: Enter the streets of New York City, pose for a photo with the four turtle brothers and fight crime by checking out the new Mutants Unleashed exclusive gaming preview before the official launch on October 18! Guests will be immersed in the turtles’ den beneath the streets where these heroes trained in ninjitsu to fight evil. 

SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS 25th ANNIVERSARY: Head to front porch queue of THE LODGE to step into SpongeBob’s Pluto TV world! Join SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Sandy, and Plankton in a mini golf experience for a chance to win branded swag! A new prize every day!
