The world’s top Tupperware® product seller is about to watch the company that defined her life struggle to survive.
Diamonds & Plastic plunges inside the secret sisterhood built by Maria Meriano as she fights to keep her women-led empire alive through the most uncertain chapter in the iconic brand’s history: its bankruptcy filing.
Maria never chose the world of Tupperware. She was born into it. After immigrating from Italy to Montreal, her mother built a new life through Tupperware®. By her early twenties, Maria had already built her own Tupperware® business, The Diamonds. More than forty years later, she leads a sales force of 50,000 members and has earned the title of the world’s top Tupperware® product seller.
But numbers alone don’t explain Maria.
She has built a parallel society where thousands of people praise her, break into tears when they meet her, and dedicate their lives to her philosophy: “Build the people and they will build the business.” People compete to attend her legendary birthday celebration, travel with her, or simply sit beside her at brunch.
Then the news breaks. Tupperware files for bankruptcy.
Overnight, Maria is forced to confront the one challenge she cannot outwork, outsell or outlead. As the business she spent more than forty years building is thrown into chaos, she fights to retain her people, keep sales flowing, and protect the community she has spent a lifetime building.
