Canadian Track & Field Star Damian Warner made us all so proud at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo bringing home a gold medal for us in the Decathlon. This victory wasn’t his first Olympics success however as the 31-year-old brought home a bronze at the 2016 Summer Olympics, proving age has made him even better!
The London, Ontario native who trains out of the University of Western Ontario normally faced some obstacles with that facility being shut-down during the Pandemic, making Farquharson Arena his home base in preparation for the Olympics and whatever changes that brought, it worked!
Warner has the distinction of becoming only the fourth athlete ever to score score over 9000 points with an impeccable score of 9018, setting a new Olympic record! Canadians are making their mark on every front and we couldn’t be prouder to have him bear our flag at the closing ceremonies!
We were so lucky to cross paths with Warner with his Coach Dennis Nielsen en route to a drive back to London, Ontario tonight. Warner, in great spirits with his medal stowed away in his bags was so gracious to stop for a snap and sign some autographs. A class act!
Hoping all goes smoothly in his preparations for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, which is where he has his sights set.
