#REVIEW: “LOW DOWN”
Review by Justin Waldman for Mr. Will Wong
When it comes to Biopics based on Musicians of the sixties and seventies, the name Joe Albany doesn’t exactly jump out at you and as is the case with such Films, finding an Audience outside the Artist's most ardent Fanbase is something of a challenge.
Low Down from Director Jeff Preiss is told from the perspective of Albany’s (John Hawkes) Daughter, Amy-Jo (Elle Fanning) and captures their life together with him as a struggling Jazz Musician. We ...

#REVIEW – “JOHN WICK”
Review by Justin Waldman for Mr. Will Wong
First-time Director Chad Stahelski has a fantastic first time outing with up-and-coming Screenwriter Derek Kolstad in John Wick. In the last 20 or so years, Cinema has continuously tried to recreate the on screen gold that was the 80s-Action genre. These Movies were usually stylistically appealing with a heavy hand in violence, where Story came second and entertainment came first and foremost. Thankfully, aside from the stylization throughout John ...

#REVIEW: “LAGGIES”
Review by Justin Waldman for Mr. Will Wong
Director Lynn Shelton has some great work to her name, more recently starring in Safety Not Guaranteed and of course directing well-received Your Sister’s Sister. She brings something fresh to the game with her wonderfully-quirky new Film Laggies, which is an unusual take on the Coming of Age story. The Movie stars some formidable talent in Keira Knightley, Chloë Grace Moretz and Sam Rockwell.
The Movie focuses on Megan (Keira Knightley) and her ...

#REVIEW: “THE BOOK OF LIFE”
Review by Justin Waldman for Mr. Will Wong
The Toronto Connection certainly is there. Honourary Torontonian Guillermo del Toro loves our City and serving the role of Producer on The Book Of Life, his aesthetic influence on its Art Direction is unmistakable with occasional echoes of his Masterpiece, Pan’s Labyrinth seen in this latest Film from Writer and first-time Director, Jorge R. Gutierrez. Upon initial viewing, it is understandable why there are Awards Season rumblings ...

#REVIEW: “THE BEST OF ME”
Review by Justin Waldman for Mr. Will Wong
Let's face it - Nicholas Sparks Adaptations just are not for everyone, and as much as we hate to admit it, beautiful The Notebook raised the bar high in the ever-fading Romance Genre. However, as someone who has seen almost every single Film  Adaptation of his, I can say this is one of my Favourites. The Best Of Me, directed by Michael Hoffman (The Last Station), is a beautiful Story that truly captures what it means to be in love, to lose love, ...

#REVIEW: “DRACULA UNTOLD”
Review by David Baldwin for Mr. Will Wong
Prince Vlad (Luke Evans) rules Transylvania cautiously. He is scarred from abuse at the hands of the Turkish Empire – a Group he wants to keep his family well away from. But they come at a rather steep price.
The Dracula story has been retold many times, but ...

#REVIEW: JASON MRAZ IN TORONTO AT MASSEY HALL
Review by Justin Waldman for Mr. Will Wong
Having been a Fan of Jason Mraz for the last six years has meant seeing him on his last two Tours in Toronto, both of which took place at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre, and seeing him at an even more intimate venue in Massey Hall was a no-brainer. Now what is great about an Artist like Mraz is that he collaborates with Bands and Artists that deserve the exposure in the name of musicality over gimmicks. On this Tour, he brings along longtime Pals ...

#REVIEW: “THE GUEST”
Review by David Baldwin for Mr. Will Wong
Mistakes were made at TIFF 2011 – I had the chance to see Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett’s wildly-entertaining You’re Next, but decided to go to something else instead. I cannot remember a thing about the movie I did see, but waited ever so patiently for Wingard and Barrett’s demented Forror-Comedy. The Film was eventually released last summer, nearly two years after its premiere at TIFF, and I loved each and every frame.
The same mistake was ...

REVIEW: “ANNABELLE”
Review by David Baldwin for Mr. Will Wong
I watched The Conjuring on a whim last summer after hearing the surprising amount of praise. I squirmed uncomfortably in my seat nearly the entire time, jumping at specific intervals and was genuinely creeped out at others. I desperately hoped I would not let out yelps of terror like the Gentleman beside me, clutching his Girlfriend. One of the standout moments of the Film involved a sinister looking Doll named Annabelle.
And surprise surprise, just ...

#REVIEW: “GONE GIRL”
Review by Jonathan Godfrey for Mr. Will Wong
After much anticipation, these release of Gone Girl tells us with certainty, it's Awards Season. David Fincher’s new Masterpiece is the byproduct of a beloved Book by the same name by former Entertainment Weekly Writer, Gillian Flynn. It’s a Murder Mystery; a new-age Film Noir with more twists than a line-up for a McDonald’s Cone on hot summer afternoon.
The Film stars a do-no-wrong Ben Affleck. He plays Nick Dunne, a hapless Husband who ...
