After much critical love with 2010’s Please Give, Writer/Director Nicole Holofcener returns with another Winner in heartfelt Romantic-Comedy, Enough Said which premiered just recently at TIFF ’13. With the distinction of featuring one of late James Gandolfini‘s final performances, the Film is a Gem in the Genre, making us wonder why it is despite her phenomenal success in Television, Julia Louis-Dreyfus isn’t a huge Movie Star.
Enough Said centers on a divorced single Mom named Eva (Louis-Dreyfus) who works as a Massage Therapist. She begins to date an unlikely Boyfriend in Albert (Gandolfini) and as fate would have it, she soon puts two and two together realizing that he in fact is the Ex-Husband of her favourite Client, Marianne (Catherine Keener). Session upon session, Marianne unveils some horrible things about Albert and their failed Marriage, making Eva question whether or not he is the one for her. Also, we wonder what will happen if their paths are to cross and it is realized by all that Eva has been dating Marianne‘s Ex-Husband, while befriending Albert‘s Ex-Wife? At once, we witness Eva‘s coping with an impending Empty Nest as home as her growingly-distant Daughter Ellen (Tracey Fairaway) heads to College.
Make no mistake, Enough Said possesses something magical. Louis-Dreyfus and Gandolfini are paired together with remarkable chemistry and bring to their Characters their histories and insecurities they are burdened with after having endured painful failed marriages. The former gets pared down to her most vulnerable core late in the Film, really striking a chord emotionally with the Audience, and every step along the way we want for Albert and Eva to go all the way despite some detrimental missteps. Gandolfini radiates with pure masculine allure, taking us beyond the surface and deep into this engaging Love Story and second chances.
Fox Searchlight releases the genuinely-affecting Enough Said on Friday, September 27, 2013.
