Review by Justin Waldman for Mr. Will Wong
Pierce Brosnan is back once again where we love him most – as a Secret Agent. He is The November Man. From Director Roger Donaldson (The Bank Job, No Way Out and The Recruit) comes a new Action-Thriller starring both a former Bond and Bond Girl, and carrying forth a bit of that famous Franchise’s essence. If you walk-in expecting to have a ridiculous amount of fun, you will get exactly that. Nothing more, nothing less.
Writers Michael Finch (Predators Reboot) and Karl Gajdusek (Oblivion) step-up to the task here, exceeding expectations. The Adaptation of the Novel by Bill Granger is smart and well-meshed, giving the Cast plenty enough to flourish. Peter Devereaux (Pierce Brosnan) is sent on a Mission by his former Handler, Hanley (Bill Smitrovich) to rescue an Agent in the field who infiltrated the Russian President Elect Fedorov (Lazar Ristovski) and deliver the information she has recovered about him to sabotage any chance of him becoming President due to his standing as a War Criminal. However, the Mission goes terribly wrong as Devereaux runs into his former Trainee, Mason (Luke Bracey) and his Team. This is where Devereaux finds Alice Fournier (Olga Kurylenko) and she helps him uncover the truth about Fedorov. Matters are complicated when Fedorov finds out that his information has been stolen and so he is on the hunt for the Girl who could bring him down. Will Devereaux, the CIA, or Fedorov find her first? The edge-of-our-seat hunt is on.
The November Man is incredibly-entertaining delivering exactly what you’d expect of the Genre and then some. It is the Secret Agent Flick we deserve. Brosnanâs performance here proves that he certainly still has it and he can indeed still kick some serious butt. In addition, Kurlyenko certainly shines – perfect as the devastating Damsel-in-Distress. Smitrovich is highly-engaging in all his witty sarcasm, commanding when he has to be.
VVS Films release The November Man on Wednesday, August 27, 2014.
