Fresh-off a Premiere at the Whistler Film Festival, JUGGERNAUT uses Cain and Abel archetypes in telling the story of Saxon Gamble (Jack Kesy) whom after the death of his mother, returns back to his hometown on the belief that her death was not in fact a suicide. He shakes-up his town demanding answers and on the way awakens a sibling rivalry between him and his brother Dean (David Cubitt). He and his brother feud over their father who now happens to be a minister, Leonard‘s (Peter McRobbie) approval and the consequences are violent and deadly.
While the Film at points plods a tad, the Film’s lead Kesy who can be seen currently in 12 Strong, Death Wish and the upcoming Deadpool Sequel has an undeniable presence to him, carrying the weight of it all. Nobody is safe from his wrath. Canada’s Amanda Crew (Silicon Valley) also stars in a supporting role as his sister-in-law, in an understated performance which is refreshing and complex in that she isn’t just simply a love interest. First-time Feature Director and also Writer Daniel DiMarco more than ably steps-up to the task keeping us engaged fully even when his lead character perhaps isn’t the most likable.
leveFILM release JUGGERNAUT in Toronto at The Carlton on Friday, March 9, 2018 and in Kamloops, BC at Landmark Kamloops on Sunday, March 11, 2018. It also receives a Digital/HD release on Tuesday, March 27, 2018.
