‘Tis the season for a festive little Rom-Com! We love Michael Urie (Ugly Betty) and are thrilled he lands the starring role as Peter in SINGLE ALL THE WAY from Director Michael Mayer.
Trying to avoid the constant pressure from his family because of his being single, Peter decides to bring his best friend Nick (Philemon Chambers), posing as his lover, home to silence them. This doesn’t stop them from trying to set him up! Though Peter strikes a connection with James (Luke Macfarlane), who is the perfect package, what others see is that his perfect match might actually have been right in front of him all along!
Without giving too much away, we enjoyed the chemistry between Peter and Nick, both are lovable in their own ways, and though things happen a little too conveniently and predictably, SINGLE ALL THE WAY makes all the right choices challenging the idea of how others perceive gay people, and goes against the grain in its own way. If anything, they both are fun to watch together even if everything else doesn’t quite come together.
Kathy Najimy as Peter‘s mother Carole is a casting decision that knows too well who this Film’s audience is. And it’s great as always to see Jennifer Coolidge having some fun as the eccentric and sassy Aunt Sandy, who shows up to direct a local Christmas play… with a very specific vision!
SINGLE ALL THE WAY is perfectly harmless fun and we appreciate that it breaks the mold of your standard holiday cookie cutter. It streams today on Netflix.
