INSTANT FAMILY is a Film of the now. We’ve finally embraced that there is nothing more relatable than a family with dysfunction. Director/Writer Sean Anders crafts a heartwarming Film which doesn’t shy away from the ugly side of what it takes to be a family and does it with a lighthearted finesse.
The Comedy centers on a couple, Pete (Mark Wahlberg) and Ellie (Rose Byrne) whom after receiving a lot of taunting from their family, jokingly and then eventually seriously, decide to pursue adoption. Not only do they find themselves adding one more member to their family, they get three in siblings Lizzy (Isabela Moner), Juan (Gustavo Quiroz) and Lita (Julianna Gamiz). While things start off a little smooth to be true, matters become challenging rather quickly when their quirks come to light and we learn that the kids’ troubled biological mother resurfaces and we wonder if it will be worth the fight for Pete and Ellie.
While we spend much of the Film irritated at the antics of these children, making everything unnecessarily tough on Pete and Ellie, the Film in its Final Act takes an emotional twist and we truly feel for these kids, especially an angsty and invested performance by up-and-coming Dora the Explorer star Moner. We literally go to hell and back with this Family and find ourselves rooting for things to work out and that’s how we know we’ve been won over.
Instant Family‘s Home Entertainment release comes in a Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Combo Pack option and comes crammed with over an hour of fun family moments in case you can’t get enough. Anytime there’s Mark Wahlberg, you know there’s a Gag Reel worth watching and here it is. We learn that the Film actually inspired by Anders’ own life and experiences and you can learn about this in a Featurette titled “The real life inspiration“.
Paramount Pictures Home Entertainment release INSTANT FAMILY on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital and it is now in stores.
