Review by Amanda Gilmore for Mr. Will Wong
Everyone’s favourite superhero family is back, but in a different way. For the past 15 years the family has been saving the day only when drastically needed, due to a law that rendered superheroes illegal. However, they are in luck thanks to Winston and Evelyn Deavor (Bob Odenkirk and Catherine Keener) who have hatch an elaborate plan to prove that superheroes are needed worldwide. The Deavor’s have chosen only Helen (Holly Hunter), aka Elastigirl, to be the face of their mission to make superheroes legal again. Thus, leaving Bob (Craig T. Nelson), aka Mr. Incredible, at home to take care of their three children. What Bob soon realizes is that taking care of a family is just as heroic as fighting crime, especially when he’s dealing with newborn Jack-Jack’s (Eli Fucile) rapidly changing superpowers.
Incredibles 2 brings everything you loved about the first one and doubles it. Writer-Director Brad Bird crafts a script that delves into each family member which causes audiences to become emotionally invested. Therefore, when Bird creates a threat to any one of these characters the danger feels real. Bird takes a refreshing angle on the family by putting the mother as the face of superheroes and keeping the father at home. However, this Film doesn’t only focus on the changes between mother and father but also the children. Violet (Sarah Vowell) and Dash (Huck Milner) depict accurate representations of their age, which will relate to many parents, teenagers and children.
When it comes to the Cast of Voice Actors, they knock it out-of-the-park. Hunter is the ever energetic voice behind the powerful Elastigirl. Nelson is hilarious as the stay-at-home exhausted father. Odenkirk is the ever hopeful voice behind Winston while Keener is mysterious as Evelyn. And Samuel L. Jackson is back and great as always as the voice of Frozone.
Overall, Bird creates one slick and ascetically-pleasing Film that will capture the hearts children and adults alike.
