Review by Jonathan Godfrey for Mr. Will Wong
The kids from Queens have finally taken over Hollywood. Yes, theyâre back and theyâve made a Blockbuster. When last we saw Vince (Adrian Grenier) and the Boys, life was sweet but uncertain. Ari (Jeremy Piven) egressed from his early retirement to become a Studio Head, and Vince rushed into marriage. Dim the lights, roll the projector, and boom⌠everything has changed.
The Film begins with Eric (Kevin Connolly), Johnny (Kevin Dillon) and Turtle (Jerry Ferrara) on a space age cigar boat headed for a bustling yacht off the isle of Ibiza. With beats bumping and breasts bared the Boys push through a crowd to find a divorced Vince undefeated. And then⌠within moments⌠Ari calls with an offer, and Vince agrees to do the impossible.
Eight months later and Vinceâs directorial debut is on the verge of completion⌠and so the drama begins. Itâs a classic Entourage angle, and one that includes a pregnant Sloan (Emmanuelle Chriqui), an engaged Lloyd (Rex Lee), and Scott Mescudi as Ariâs new Assistant. As though it were the ninth season of the Show the Film weaves its way through numerous plot points. Eric and Sloan are still a bit broken-up, while Vince is falling apart over funding. Ari is eager to help him but he has to outwit a Father-Son Duo to do so, (played by Billy Bob Thornton & Haley Joel Osment). Turtle has slimmed down while striking it rich, but he canât seem to make it with Ronda Rousey. And Johnny thinks heâs got the roll of a lifetime, but he canât seem to keep it together.
Add to that hilarious appearances from TV show regulars T.I., Jessica Alba and Mark Wahlberg. Thus, thereâs a whole lot to be happy about. However, add another dozen Stars, Athletes, and a Soundtrack robust with Rappers⌠and youâve got yourself Entourage: The Movie.
It is excellent throughout and shot with a cinematic eye. Turtleâs new mansion adds to the locations, and the sets for Vinceâs Film âHydeâ give it a big behind-the-scenes flare. Itâs cool and itâs got the cars to prove it. Plus the Girls, and more Girls, and all the best Girls. Emily Ratajkowski stars as a side of herself every man loves to see. Perrey Reeves is a sight for sore eyes, and Sabina Gadecki fills-out the rafters nicely.
It looks good. It sounds good. Its proof that Doug Ellin should get to do another one of these if the Movie meets the gold standard. So if youâre a Fan, or at all interested, be certain you see it on the big screen.
Warner Bros. Pictures Canada release ENTOURAGE: THE MOVIE on Wednesday, June 3, 2015.
