#FIRSTLOOK: “THE SUN NEVER SETS” RELEASE DATE

Dakota Fanning, Jake Johnson, and Cory Michael Smith star in THE SUN NEVER SETS, an emotional drama about love, relationships, and the complicated, funny, and sometimes painful ways we try to figure out what we truly want.

Wendy (Fanning) believes she’s perfectly happy in her relationship with Jack (Johnson), an older man who is divorced and has children. But when Jack insists they take a break to make sure Wendy is truly comfortable giving up on the idea of marriage and having children, she begins to question what she wants for her future. At the same time, Wendy unexpectedly runs into her ex, Chuck (Smith), who is back in town and reignites her carefree and spontaneous side…and suddenly seems ready to start a family of his own.

As Wendy, Jack, and Chuck navigate a chaotic and confusing relationship triangle, THE SUN NEVER SETS explores the messy realities of love and the difficult choices that come with figuring out what (and who) we truly want.

The film reunites director Joe Swanberg and Jake Johnson, longtime collaborators who sought to preserve the spirit of their previous work together while taking on something grander and more expansive. The film was shot on 35mm on location in Anchorage, Alaska.

Joe Swanberg has directed more than 20 feature films, including HANNAH TAKES THE STAIRS, DRINKING BUDDIES, and HAPPY CHRISTMAS. THE SUN NEVER SETS marks his 10th feature to premiere at SXSW, where it debuted earlier this year. The film brings Swanberg’s signature intimate and realistic approach to relationships into the expansive landscape of Alaska.

THE SUN NEVER SETS will be released in Canadian theatres by Mongrel Media September 4, 2026 in Toronto and September 18, 2026 in Vancouver,
