#FIRSTLOOK: “THE PRINCE’S MASTER CRAFTERS: THE NEXT GENERATION”

How cool is this? Six Amateur Crafters compete literallly for a chance at the throne in THE PRINCE’S MASTER CRAFTERS: THE NEXT GENERATION. His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, Prince Charles actually judges in the finale!

Synopsis:

Britain has a rich heritage when it comes to traditional crafts. From basket weaving to blacksmithing; kilt making to clock building; and glass blowing to glove making. These skills have been passed down from generation to generation and now, humanity risks losing them forever. In 2021 in the UK, four heritage crafts were declared extinct and a further 56 critically endangered. The Prince’s Foundation advocates for the revival and preservation of heritage craft skills through spreading awareness among young people, sparking a resurgence of interest in crafting and offering an array of education and training programmes through its UK sites. The Prince’s Master Crafters: The Next Generation aims to bring some of these crafts back to life, reinvigorating them with a new generation of talent.

Overview of episodes:

• Episode 1: Wood Carving
  August 10 at 10 p.m. ET/PT
  The craftspeople create their very own wood carving in an arts and crafts style.
   
• Episode 2: Stained Glass
  August 17 at 10 p.m. ET/PT
  All students are challenged with creating a stained-glass panel featuring a symbol. 
   
• Episode 3: Weaving
  August 24 at 10 p.m. ET/PT
  The craftspeople are tasked with weaving 10 cm of plain weave and 5cm of twill weave before going on to create a fabric of their own design.
   
• Episode 4: Blacksmithing
  August 31 at 10 p.m. ET/PT
  The craftspeople are challenged to forge their own toasting fork with a leaf detailing.
   
• Episode 5: Stone Carving
  September 7 at 10 p.m. ET/PT
  Each student is asked to create a stone carved leaf.
   
• Episode 6: Pargeting
  September 14 at 10 p.m. ET/PT
  The crafters are tasked with creating a pargeted panel of oak leaves and acorns.
   
• Episode 7: Grand Final
  September 21 at 10 p.m. ET/PT
  The students have four weeks to design and make their graduation piece before presenting it in person to Prince Charles at his private home, Highgrove House in Gloucestershire. 

The Canadian broadcast premiere of The Prince’s Master Crafters: The Next Generation airs Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, exclusively on Makeful.
