#FIRSTLOOK: “THE ONLY LIVING PICKPOCKET IN NEW YORK” RELEASE DATE

Earning praise following its Canadian premiere at TIFF 2026, THE ONLY LIVING PICKPOCKET IN NEW YORK stars John Turturro (“Severance,” The Batman) as Harry Lehman, an old-school hustler and quintessential New Yorker who moves through life lubricating palms with cash, relying on his wits and connections to get by. But times are changing for Harry. His daily pickpocket haul is no longer green bills and wristwatches; it’s credit cards and cell phones. And one unfortunate night…cryptocurrency and a handgun.

Both a knotty crime thriller and a riveting character study, the film is anchored by a remarkable leading performance from John Turturro, who brings unexpected warmth and wit to the role of Harry. The film is written and directed by Noah Segan (Blood Relatives, Scare Package). It reunites Turturro with Giancarlo Esposito (Captain America: Brave New World, “Breaking Bad”), who both appeared in Spike Lee’s 1989 classic Do the Right Thing. The supporting cast includes Will Price (After the Hunt, A Complete Unknown), Tatiana Maslany (The Monkey, “Orphan Black”) and Steve Buscemi (“Wednesday,” The Death of Stalin).

The film’s action moves between Harry’s old-school ethos and the world of Dylan Diamond, the reckless Gen Z scion of an organized crime family and an embodiment of modern city life. Their contrasting worlds are reflected in their wardrobes: Harry’s elegant Zegna overcoat versus Dylan’s brash, electric-blue Balenciaga puffer.

As Harry navigates this new world, he begins to question his place in it. Where does he belong when the things he knows best (and the way he has always lived) seem increasingly out of step with the modern city around him?

THE ONLY LIVING PICKPOCKET IN NEW YORK is a nostalgic portrait of a small-time career criminal navigating an increasingly tech-forward world. As a born-and-bred New Yorker, Segan set out to pay tribute to the city of his birth while revealing unfamiliar corners of one of the world’s most photographed cities. We follow Harry through all five boroughs as the film offers a distinctive portrait of New York through his eyes.

The film will be released in Canadian theatres by Mongrel Media as follows: October 23, 2026 in Toronto and Vancouver, additional cities October 30, 2026.
