Netflix today announced a new creative partnership with Canadian Screen Award winner Joseph Kay.
As part of the deal, Kay will write for and develop new content for Netflix in Canada. He is currently in development on a new family drama.
Kay has worked with Netflix as a Consulting Producer on North of North S2 and as co-Executive Producer on the upcoming adaptation of Carley Fortune’s bestselling novel, This Summer Will Be Different.
Quote from Joseph Kay: “I am beyond grateful and thrilled to partner with this incredible company. I have huge admiration for Netflix’s entire team, and for their unsurpassed drive to tell great stories and connect with audiences around the world.”
Quote from Danielle Woodrow and Tara Woodbury, Directors, Content – Canada, Netflix: “Joe is a seasoned and gifted creator and showrunner, who is also adept at supporting other writers. We have loved working with him on our shows so far and we are thrilled to expand our relationship.”
Netflix’s Canada slate has seen growing success with the release last year of North of North, Wayward and Who Killed the Montreal Expos?, along with the recent release of BELOW which has racked up 45.9M views since it launched on the service only three weeks ago and has become the most viewed debut of a Canadian title globally ever on Netflix. Kay’s creative partnership follows the previously announced first look deal with Mae Martin and Netflix.
North of North S2 will be releasing globally (including Canada) on Nov. 5 and production recently ended on the adaptation of Carley Fortune’s bestselling novel, This Summer Will Be Different.
Joseph Kay created Transplant and served as showrunner for all four seasons, earning four Canadian Screen Awards for his work on the series. He has also been a writer and producer on Ransom, This Life and Republic of Doyle.
