Searching for lost belongings takes an unexpected turn in ESTATE OF MIND (4 x 20 min), the bold new hybrid docu-comedy series premiering on Bell Fibe TV1 on Thursday, August 27, 2026 on demand via Channel 1 and the Fibe TV app. Created by award-winning film and television creators Jeff Biederman (Life with Derek) and Jake Horowitz (Cups of Cheer), the series blends scripted storytelling with the unpredictability of actual estate sales, where a fictional character navigates a world of real people, real treasures and unforgettable human connection.
“Bringing ESTATE OF MIND to life has been incredibly rewarding, and we’re excited to finally share it with audiences,” said Jeff Biederman, co-creator and co-showrunner. “We wanted to make something that felt genuinely real and genuinely funny, combining a scripted narrative with improvisation and the unpredictability of real people. The people we met at estate sales brought a level of authenticity, humor and humanity that we never could have written.”
“The real-world locations where we filmed the series, and the authentic people contained within, became the perfect backdrop for a heartwarming sci-fi-tinged docu-comedy unlike all the other heartwarming sci-fi-tinged docu-comedies out there,” said Jake Horowitz, director, co-creator and co-showrunner of ESTATE OF MIND. “At its heart, this is a comedy about community. In a world where so much of our lives happens online, we wanted to celebrate the joy of meeting people face-to-face and discovering that complete strangers can unexpectedly change your life.”
Starring Alexander Oliver (In a Violent Nature), ESTATE OF MIND follows heartbroken genius ‘Alex’ as he returns to his hometown after the death of his last remaining family member, only to find his childhood home stripped bare. Everything he grew up with, he learns, was sold off at an estate sale. So, Alex does the only thing that makes sense to him: he scours estate sales for other people’s discarded junk, convinced he can assemble a machine that will fix his life.
Filmed at estate sales, flea markets and second-hand stores throughout Southern Ontario, the series introduces viewers to a remarkable community of collectors, treasure hunters, antique experts and everyday people whose personal stories become as valuable as the objects they leave behind. The result is a funny, heartfelt exploration of grief, connection and the surprising ways strangers help us find ourselves.
The series also stars award-winning performer Jonas Chernick (James vs. His Future Self) as ‘Junkyard Jonas’ and Leishe Meyboom (Locke & Key) as ‘Rachel’, alongside dozens of real collectors, estate sale organizers and shoppers who appear as themselves throughout the series.
Co-Produced with Sideways Dog Productions and Grainey Pictures, ESTATE OF MIND marks Grainey Canada’s first original scripted production. Alongside Biederman and Horowitz, executive producers are Robert Cohen, Joel H. Cohen, Colin Gray, Larissa Primeau, and Megan Raney-Aarons. Producers are Qihui Lim, Larissa Primeau, and Jake Horowitz. Director of Photography is Artem Mykhailetskyi.
