Grace Pine, a 23-year-old music critic from Toronto, moves to Montreal in the summer of 2011 with the goal of writing a 33 1/3 book about Alanis Morrisette’s Jagged Little Pill. Instead, she falls in love with two guys in the same struggling indie rock band, vowing to become their publicist. “Mile End Kicks” is a film about the Montreal music scene, romantic obsession, and Mile End, a place where young people go to retire.

Dr. Aditi Sivakumar, an award-winning Obstetrics and Gynaecology resident and women’s health advocate, is releasing an insightful new mini-documentary spotlighting the resilience of women living with HIV and the ongoing impact of stigma in Canada.

A 2021 Canadian study published in the journal AIDS and Behaviour revealed that HIV-related stigma remains widespread and continues to negatively affect mental health, disclosure, and engagement in care among people living with HIV.

While medical advancements have significantly improved HIV treatment and prevention, stigma continues to shape women’s reproductive experiences and public perception. Positive Journeys: Pregnancy, Strength and Living Well with HIV centers the voices of women who have navigated pregnancy alongside persistent misconceptions and the healthcare professionals working to change that narrative. The film also highlights the work of Toronto’s Positive Pregnancy Program (P3) at St. Michael’s Hospital. Since its founding in 2006, the multidisciplinary program has supported more than 400 healthy pregnancies, including siblings, demonstrating what coordinated, evidence-based care can make possible.

“For too long, stigma — not medicine — has shaped the public perception of HIV and pregnancy,” said Dr. Sivakumar, who used her monetary award from her 2025 YWCA Toronto Women of Distinction win to fund the documentary. “I want this film to show what is actually true: that with the right care and support, women living with HIV can have healthy, joyful pregnancies.”

“Many leaders view an award as a moment for personal celebration – and rightly so,” said Heather McGregor, Chief Executive Officer at YWCA Toronto. “Aditi saw it as an opportunity to do more. Her first instinct was to ask, ‘how can this become bigger than me?’ She turned a personal recognition into a platform that will resonate with women across the country who have never seen their stories told in this way. That type of visions cannot be taught. That is just who she is.”

Dr. Sivakumar noted that after witnessing the devastating effects of gender-based violence through her undergraduate volunteer work at a local domestic violence shelter in Ottawa, she knew she needed to take action. In 2018, she launched My Empowerment Platform, a digital resource supporting women and girls experiencing violence. Dr. Sivakumar is a Governor General’s Award Winner who serves as Board Vice Chair of the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health at the World Health Organization, the youngest person globally to hold the role. Last September, she won the Global Impact Awards at the prestigious Women Empowerment Awards for her contributions to women’s health advocacy.

With this documentary, she channels her advocacy into its most personal and powerful expression yet. “It’s a proud moment for me to lead this campaign and bring visibility to an area that’s often forgotten, even though 2024 data from the World Health Organisation shows over 40.8 million people living with HIV, and over 1.3 million people acquired HIV that same year. This honours the very women whose stories we tell,” added Dr. Sivakumar. “Women’s reproductive autonomy must include women living with HIV. This documentary is about dignity, equity, and ensuring every woman sees what is medically and socially possible.”

The film features Dr. Mark Yudin, Staff OB-GYN at St. Michael’s Hospital, Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Toronto, and co-founder of the P3 Program.

“With appropriate medical care and comprehensive support, women living with HIV can have safe pregnancies and give birth to HIV-negative babies,” said Dr. Yudin. “P3 demonstrates what is possible when evidence-based medicine is delivered in a compassionate, stigma-free environment.

A huge opening weekend for Disney•Pixar’s HOPPERS, with $40 million from 4,000 theatres. This is the studio’s best opening since Coco which opened with $70 million in 2017. It gets 94% on the Tomatometer.

SCREAM 7 is second after a winning debut, with $16.3 million from 3,540 theatres for Paramount Pictures. Its two week total is $92.3 million domestically.

THE BRIDE debuts in third with $8 million from 3,304 theatres for Warner Bros. It gets a passing 60% on the Tomatometer.

GOAT lands in fourth with $6.1 million, a four week run of $83.3 million for Sony Pictures.

“WUTHERING HEIGHTS” rounds out the Top Five with $3.7 million, a four week run of $78.7 million domestically for Warner Bros.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is an animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros., and follows The Super Mario Bros. Toronto’s Stephan James got a hero’s welcome home in celebration of his latest effort WAR MACHINE. The Sci-Fi Action flick premieres today on Netflix, seeing a group of rangers’ training get thwarted by the unexpected presence of an alien. Alan Ritchson, Jai Courtney, Dennis Quaid, and James lead this Cast.

Toronto’s favourite brothers, James and Shamier Anderson, attended a special Advance Screening of the film directed and co-written by Patrick Hughes (The Hitman’s Bodyguard) at luxurious Shangri-La Hotel. Our Amanda Gilmore got to enjoy the celebration, followed by a Q&A with James, moderated by Carlos Bustamante.

After its premiere and raves at SXSW ’25, we’ve been waiting for North Bay-filmed SWEETNESS. Music Video Director Emma Higgins makes her feature directorial debut here with this story she also wrote about a teenage girl Rylee (Kate Hallett), and her obsession with Floor Plan frontman Payton (Herman Tømmeraas). By chance, she gets a lift home from him one night, when she realizes he isn’t who he seems and she goes to extremes to save him.

We were delighted to chat with Higgins and Hallett, whom you might recognize from Oscar-winning WOMEN TALKING. We find out about how the two connected for Hallett to play a character who was in ways inspired by Higgins‘ teenage self, their own parasocial relationships with their idols, and also Hallett‘s demanding transformation into lead character, Rylee who does some crazy sh*t! And yes, we’re all disappointed Tom Holland and Zendaya eloped… without our permission!

Did you guys know Farm Boy was the official grocer for Team Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina? For the past few years they’ve already been funding and feeding young Ontario athletes as part of their journeys onto the world stage!

We’re so thrilled to join them at Leaside Memorial Community Gardens for an afternoon of fun as they celebrate their campaign. The Skate & Chat event gave families a chance to enjoy some Farm Boy light bites, ice skate, and connect with some legends in Team Canada gold medalists Speed Skater Ivanie Blondin, and Hockey star Renata Fast. Two athletes at the absolute top of their game. We also got to meet three-year-old viral Hockey sensation Connor MacDangles. Oh my goodness, wait till you see him move!

Last night, stars and notable guests gathered at Toronto’s iconic TIFF Lightbox for the Canadian premiere event of THE PINK PILL: SEX, DRUGS & WHO HAS CONTROL, celebrating the launch of the powerful new documentary available on Paramount+ in Canada and the US on March 6th. Directed by award-winning Montreal filmmaker Aisling Chin-Yee, the film ignites a global conversation on women’s health, power, and medical equity ahead of International Women’s Day.

The evening featured a screening of the film for a sold out threatre, followed by a spirited Q&A with filmmakers including director Aisling Chin-Yee, entrepreneur and central figure in the film Cindy Eckert, (Founder & CEO Sprout Pharmaceuticals) and Executive Producers Julie Bristow (Catalyst), Abby Greensfelder (Everywoman Studios), and Joanna Griffiths (Knix).

The premiere also brought together notable voices from across media, entertainment and women’s advocacy. Attendees included actors Sarah Gadon (Cosmopolis), Wendy Crewson (We Were Liars), Supinder Wraich (Allegiance), Jennifer Goodhue (Baroness Von Sketch), and Tricia Black (Small Achievable Goals). Also in attendance showing their support for women’s health were Olympian Tessa Virtue and media personalities Cheryl Hickey, Sarah Landry, and Hannah Sung, who also moderated the Q &A.

Following the screening, guests gathered for a reception at Toronto’s Abrielle to celebrate the film.
