Following the great success of chains like CONGEE QUEEN and SUSHI LEGEND, the same people behind these establishments are onto something unique with their Taiwanese-Japanese Fusion stop, PETIT POTATO.
The cozy space with booth and table seating is located at Finch x Leslie on Ravel Rd. in North York. Frequently jam-packed due to tons of Social Media exposure of late, the Restaurant’s marquee item lies not in its main menu, but in its Desserts. If you’ve had Bubble Tea, at some point you may have eaten or at least witnessed Brick Toast. The thick-cut (about the height of three slices of Texas Toast) slice of soft, sweet white bread often is topped with anything from fruits to condensed milk to chocolate. PETIT POTATO‘s rendition of the snacktime favourite however, is next level. It is multi-tiered, enrobed in a creamy coat and ice cream, stacked somewhat like a gingerbread house with flavours like strawberry, cookies and creme to mango. A matcha green tea option we hear is coming soon. The novelty item is meant to be shared with a group of hungry friends and requires about 30 minutes’ notice. We tried the mango option and it was beyond decadent, while some of the middle toast pieces were dry, it is best to let them sop-up the cream for optimal enjoyment.
Make no mistake, PETIT POTATO isn’t a dessert shop. Their main fare is a hodgepodge of trends from Ramen to Japanese Omelettes and iron skillet rice dishes. Sprinkled throughout are the occasional nods to classic Taiwanese fare like Three-Cup Chicken (basil-ginger chicken… their boneless version is geared a little more to local tastes) and braised Pork Belly. The selections are unique and exactly what the Asian community of greater Toronto Area wants – variety and value. While a vast majority of diners were Asian, ranging from 20-something to parents looking to wow their kids with the Brick Toast Tower, there was a bit of diversity also. This is the power of word of mouth promotion which has taken Bubble Tea from the small shops of Taiwan to the shopping malls of North America. And yes, the still-trendy beverage is prominent on the PETIT POTATO menu, along with a variety of iced teas and slushes. We even saw durian-flavoured slush for the adventurous, the stinky fruit getting a huge profile boost thanks to its biggest fan in Hollywood, Jessica Chastain.
Our greatest thrill? We devoured a delightfully thick and savoury bowl of mock-Shark Fin Soup with a splash of red vinegar. We have been thinking about it all day literally. A must try.
Their Ramen is comparable to some of the trendy shops downtown while lacking the sophistication in flavour of greats like Momofuku, Kiton and Sansotei. Our biggest regret was not having tummy room for those rice-stuffed Japanese Omelettes which intigued us so much.
We hear a Seafood Boil is the group’s next enterprise.
Learn more about PETIT POTATO here. They are located at 10 Ravel Road.

SUICIDE SQUAD very much is alive and well in its debut at the Box Office with a stunning $146 million opening for Warner Bros. from 4,255 theatres. In addition to garnering the distinction of being the highest August opening ever for a Film, it also ranks second behind CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR as the second highest opening Film of 2016! Critics were harsh with a 26% on the Tomatometer, but Audiences gave it redeeming B+ CinemaScore.
A distant second is JASON BOURNE with $22 million in its second week out for Universal Pictures. It has made $102 million so far domestically.
BAD MOMS does great in third with $14.1 million for STX Entertainment and eOne Films in its second week out. It has just surpassed the $50 million-mark.
THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS is in fourth with $10 million for Universal Pictures. In five weeks it is on the verge of $320 million in North America.
NINE LIVES opens in fifth with $6.6 million for EuropaCorp/VVS Films, from 2,264 theatres. Critics were harsh on the cat-human bodyswap Comedy with a 5% on the Tomatometer but it interestingly gets a really solid B+ CinemaScore.
ICE AGE: COLLISION COURSE rounds-out the Top Ten with $3.9 million for 20th Century Fox, in its third week out.
Few Artists have pushed the boundaries with recognition like Peaches. The Electro Icon from Toronto has toured the world, shocking audiences with her gender-bending theatrics, challenging our perceptions about sexuality. Equally a performance artist as she is an actual musician, she is known best for her dance hit Fuck the Pain Away and was the subject of a Concert-Documentary Film at TIFF ’12, Peaches Does Herself.
In a rare move, Peaches did the morning show circuit today in advance of her Massey Hall show tonight with The Hidden Cameras, topping off at CP24 Breakfast and Global‘s The Morning Show (National Edition).
Peaches in the mainstream has appeared on several soundtracks including Lost in Translation and Mean Girls. She has also collaborated with the likes of Christina Aguilera and P!nk! Did you know she also used to share a living space with Feist?

Although it has been a couple years, supermodel and Victoria’s Secret Angel Martha Hunt returns back to the City today for an in-store appearance. Fans had the chance today at Eaton Centre shop to meet the blonde beauty who happens to be a part of Taylor Swift‘s Squad, between 5-6 PM.
Earlier in the day the North Carolina native did the rounds including stops at Global Television‘s The Morning Show (Toronto edition). Although her handlers were insistent on rushing her in, she did stop for a quick Selfie. She is gorgeous!
Hunt also took over Victoria’s Secret Snapchat also for a day.

We all loved him in GREASE LIVE! And we’ve been wanting more ever since! Jordan Fisher who played Doody on that unforgettable televised event earlier this year actually released his debut single ALL ABOUT US back in April but it appears finally it is getting some traction.
You might already know the 22-year-old from Secret Life of an American Teenager, Teen Wolf and Teen Beach?
The sleek R&B/Electronic Pop romp which could be mistaken for Nick Jonas showcases the Actor/Multi-Instrumentalist/Singer’s amazing vocal range had us taken aback right away. Fisher is a new artist we’re super-excited about and he is primed for the released of his debut EP later this month.
Although it isn’t getting much airplay up this way just yet, it already is number 26 on the Billboard Pop Songs Chart and we expect it to climb as one of this Summer’s hidden gems.
Check it out below:

The true story of the legendary New York heiress and socialite, Florence Foster Jenkins (Meryl Streep), who in the early 1900s, obsessively pursued her dream of becoming a great singer—despite having a singing voice that was so out of tune and unable to hit the right notes that people found it hilarious.

Although this latest edition of Princess Diaries comes a bit sooner than imagined, our girl A PIC BY MRWILL is back! We were so touched by all the support Princess got from Racing Fans and Handicappers alike once again being bet-down as the post-time favourite in her second start early July.
We let you down and we are sorry. We still love you and hope you haven’t stopped loving us.
We admit like you we were a bit baffled by that last race where she was a bit more forwardly-placed, only to fade in the stretch especially after her first race and workout tab showed so much promise. Since then, she’s had a month to regroup. We’ve seen her focus on distance with her longest workout to date yet at six furlongs. She’s also been going on her two-mile jogs and we hear she is a “monster” and full of power on those.
Team John Ross, who have been having an amazing season with stable stars like R U Watchingbud, Ultraflame and top two-year-olds Raglan Road and Lokinforpursemonee (also, wait till they unveil the promising Cool Catomine!) have patiently been handling Princess and figuring her out. Rest assured, we still believe in her and love her very much. Her tall and strong physiology suggest she will appreciate added distance and this is exactly what she’ll get in her third lifetime start on Friday, August 5, 2016 at Woodbine.
Otherwise, in addition to a professional training regimen, we’ve been there to give her lots of support and love with kisses, apples and mini carrots – no candies for now though till she applies herself a bit more, but we leave this at her Handler Basil‘s discretion should he feels it’s warranted! Cathy (her Mom) and I have been firm about this.
I also ordered her a brand-new halter from wonderful Fincham’s Harness Shop in Nobleton. She looks amazing in it and has taken to it rather well! New halter, change of luck? No one ever said Horse Racing wasn’t hokey!
The amount of support Princess has received from the Media including mentions in the Daily Racing Form, the Toronto Star, Woodbine‘s Social Media channels and more recently Down the Stretch (the publication by 680 News’ Peter Gross) is a true testament in the public’s interest in her story and I am so proud of her no matter her order of finish Friday. In case you haven’t read the piece in Down the Stretch, you may click here to read more.
We appreciate all your encouragement and hope to see you there Friday at Woodbine or in-spirit!

My mind was completely blown getting the pleasure of test-driving the 2016 HONDA CIVIC TOURING. Sleek, stylish and luxurious, this Sedan is just as spacious in size as it is large in value.
Starting at just $27,155 CAN, the TOURING‘s is equipped with a1.5-litre, 16-valve, Direct Injection, DOHC, turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, operating at a stellar 174 horsepower.
What makes the TOURING next-level is that not only does its front-seat passengers benefit from heated seats, but so do those in the back! The Driver’s Seat is adjustable in – count ’em – eight ways, while passengers get four ways to position themselves. Backseat passengers also get their own vents, so everyone stays cool in the scorching summer heat and grueling Canadian winters. Gorgeous leather seats remind us that it’s all in the details. Did we mention that the windshield wipers have rain sensors? Rain sensors!
The Audio System is a superb 450-watts with 10 speakers including subwoofer and having our favourite, SIRIUS XM is a must. We love SIRIUS HITS XM and those same few songs they play repeatedly. We wouldn’t have it any other way! One bonus is, if you love that song you heard, you can always skip back and play it over and over. This is our kind of a car.
We enjoy that the TOURING is with the times and connecting to the vehicle’s system is a breeze through Bluetooth. We could receive our texts (transcribed and read out to us for safety), make and receive phone calls and also sync with the Spotify app on our phone effortlessly.
You know how much we love staying charged and connected with our smartphone. Situated conveniently within reach is a charging plate which charges super-fast. No more clumsy USB cables! Score.
Safety always is first and reversing as always with Honda is a breeze with a fantastic rear-view camera and blindspot assistance. We love lane-departure warning for those long days and we feel secure knowing there are both front and side airbags.
We admit it, we’re stingy. Our favourite thing about the TOURING is its fuel economy at 6.7L/100 km. When we drive, we drive far. We love that on less than $40, we were able to fill our tank after about five days of driving.
We definitely would not complain if we were to be paired again with this gem!
