#BOXOFFICE: “THE ODYSSEY” A CLEAR-CUT WINNER IN OPENING

No surprises here, Christopher Nolan‘s THE ODYSSEY is a clear-cut winner at the Box Office this weekend, taking $124 million from 3,919 theatres for Universal Pictures. This is Nolan‘s third biggest domestic opening ever, with 2012’s THE DARK KNIGHT RISES opening with $160.8 million. It gets 95% on the Tomatometer. Review here.

Second goes to MOANA with $18.8 million, taking it to $81.8 million for Disney over two weekends, domestically.

Third is MINIONS & MONSTERS with $14 million, a three week run of $136.7 million for Universal Pictures.

TOY STORY 5 lands in fourth with $13.8 million for Disney, taking it now to $429.9 million over five weekends.

EVIL DEAD BURN caps off the Top Five with $4.8 million for Warner Bros., a total $23.9 million made over two weekends.

#SPOTTED: ELLA LANGLEY IN HAMILTON FOR “THE DANDELION TOUR”

She was ella-ctrifying! Country Megastar Ella Langley has propelled to superstardom in a short bit with her mega-hit “Choosin’ Texas” dominating airwaves and streams, becoming a cultural moment. But above that, she isn’t a one-tricky pony, her album Dandelion is an accomplished sophomore effort that deeply resonates with a generation of fans, endearingly called “Ella’s Fellas“.

Though there has been no Toronto date scheduled for Langley‘s The Dandelion Tour, Hamilton got lucky with the tour stopping at TD Coliseum last night, selling-out, with limited view tickets opening-up last minute to accommodate the demand. Material mostly was focused on her latest Disc, with the cheers deafening as she wrapped up her set with her smash hit and the audience singing in unison with her the entire song.

She commented on constantly feeling that she doesn’t deserve her success, but alas acknowledged that performing for the crowd of 14,000 people was her destiny and that she is trying to embrace it.

Langley heads next to Ottawa for their Bluesfest.

#NEWMUSIC: TINASHE RELEASES NEW ALBUM “POPSTAR”

Today, Multi-platinum selling singer, songwriter, producer and DJ Tinashe announces her 8th studio album, Popstar set for release September 25th – pre-order HERE. With Popstar Tinashe immerses her fans into her current era: one filled with defiant and unapologetic anthems, paired with high-energy, choreography filled visuals to match that continue to show off her innate ability to flawlessly blend genres and pave her own path.

Today Netflix announced Francesca Reale (Stranger Things, Do Revenge) will play “Bridget” and Roby Attal (The Haunting of Bly Manor, Sex Lives of College Girls) will play her brother Felix (nicknamed “Wolf”) in Netflix’s adaptation of Canadian author Carley Fortune’s bestselling contemporary romance novel This Summer Will Be Different.

Logline: This Summer Will Be Different, based on the beloved novel by Carley Fortune, is a simmering, sun-soaked romance set across multiple summers on Prince Edward Island about Lucy, a young woman navigating her 20s and her first real love with her best friend’s brother, the one person she was never supposed to fall for.

#SPOTTED: PHOEBE DYNEVOR AND EMILY HENRY IN TORONTO FOR “BEACH READ”

We are so stoked for Emily Henry adaptation BEACH READ, which currently is filming here in Toronto, wrapping next week! The Movie is directed and co-adapted by Yulin Kuang, who makes her feature directorial debut here. She collaborated with Henry adapting her PEOPLE WE MEET ON VACATION into a featute for Netflix.

The story centers on novelist January Andrews, played by acclaimed actress Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton), who joins forces with a rival author, Augustus Everett (Patrick Schwarzenegger – who certainly knows this City real well!) in a summer wager, swapping genres in an effort to both overcome Writers” Block.

Set lakeside in Michigan, she discovers a shocking revelation about her late father also which changes her perspective. The Film will be released next May via 20th Century Studios. It was just announced Schwarzenwgger‘s film LOVE OF YOUR LIFE will premiere at TIFF ’26. That also stars Margaret Qualley and Qualley’s mom, legendary Andie McDowell happens to star in BEACH READ! Small world!

We adore Dynevor so much and are over the moon about meeting her. If you follow me, you know how crazy I am about Bridgerton. But it is her stellar work in Fair Play that solified her place as one of ny faves. That Drama sadly premiered during the Hollywood Actors’ strike at TIFF ’23, meaning we never got to see her here!

She had been filming a 4th of July/Pride Dance scene before I met her. Not wanting to get in her way, I asked from what seemed like a mile away. I wondered if she could even hear me! And she did, and was beyond kind to call me over. She is the loveliest!! I will never forget this!! Summer made!

That’s it! No spoilers. We know nothing more and saw none of the actual filming, but we do know we will ready with our Beach Read popcorn bowl at the movies next spring!
