“Sons 2 The Grave” the feature film by Canadian production company, Have Faith Productions, in association with FilmRise and Incendo, is now out in North America on Apple TV+. The film, also out in US/Canada on Amazon Prime, Roku and Tubi U has garnered impressive ratings. The acquisition by Apple TV+ allows viewers easy access to the popular film. HFP co-founder & executive producer, Sasha Stoltz made the announcement, saying “It has been a long road and we are blessed and humbled with the success of ‘Sons.
“Sons 2 The Grave” tells the story of basketball phenom, Marcus Jennings. With one foot in Hudson and one in the NBA, Marcus is taken out. After midnight on a footbridge that separates the million-dollar homes of the rich, famous and the politically connected from subsidized housing, Marcus Jennings is shot twice in the head. A message sent to the community. A code of silence remains in place, fostering a common element that binds this community, fear and the currency of payback will always be bloodshed. We are our brother’s keeper is just a slogan in Hudson.
Ruth Jennings moved to Hudson for her son, his school regularly visited by scouts. A strong, hardworking single mother, she thought she could protect her child against all odds & choices, but Marcus found it hard to fight off his new surroundings and mislaid loyalties. Marcus thought he was in control. A boy living in a man’s body, living up to his and others exaggerated egos. He attracted the attention of scouts, agents, and Division 1 NCAA schools in the US, a pitstop before the NBA. Marcus also attracted the attention of RD. RD controlled Hudson & worked for those who controlled him. In the end it was what they all had in common that ended Marcus’s life…fear. Fear of staying, fear of leaving and fear of appearing weak. Murder is a sin. There is no justification… but there is understanding.
“We’re born sons and we die sons. Somewhere in between is the story.” Ruth Jennings believes God sees all. There is nowhere to run and nowhere to hide. But for now, there is Hudson. “Sons 2 The Grave” tells that story.
Have Faith Productions is currently preparing for a television series, “”Hudson” inspired by the film, with music from Hip hop/ R&B & Soul royalty. The episodes will echo a line from the movie, “This Ain’t No Fairy Tale… This Is Hudson.” The episodes will take you into the heart of the city from upscale streets to back alleys, social status not always pre-determining who turns up where. HUDSON captures the politics and the temperament of the city in raw and truthful episodes. As producers and writers, we need to tell the stories that hold us accountable to the reality of the truth, not just what feels comfortable. The police drama takes you inside the 34th precinct, it’s heartbeat sometimes on life support. The officers and detectives, like the rest of us, are flawed. Most conceal their personal fears and demons, visiting them on their own terms, not letting them take over. But there is a point when some officers break, or yes, come broken to the job. Their safety net, stretched as it is, an eager young pastor assigned to the precinct, who’s faith is fully intact, a seasoned but weary shrink whose faith has long been scarred & a Captain who makes the hard decisions whatever side of the blue line they fall on.
“HUDSON” deals with relationships that run as high up the ladder as City Hall. Mayor Ron Langston came from the wrong side of the bridge to take office, a move some say is merely geography. His loyalty to popular club owner/ entrepreneur and childhood friend, Quincy “Q” Harris, a man comfortable on both sides of the bridge, is a source of constant concern for his supporters. HFP looks forward to the next leg of the journey.
“I am excited and honored that Apple TV+ has acquired “Sons 2 The Grave.” Bringing light to a project is not an easy journey. We had an amazing cast & crew, and I am forever grateful. I lean on my Faith as always and look forward to our future projects.”
Watch “SONS 2 THE GRAVE” on Amazon Prime, Roku, Tubi and now on Apple TV+.

Just when you thought they’ve run out of ways to go with YOU, we pack our suitcases and head to London with Joe, now known as Jonathan Moore, in the fourth season of this riveting Series.
In hot pursuit of his last obsession Marienne (Tati Gabrielle), he must lay low in his new surroundings and avoid being noticed. We wonder if like his other victims, she too will suffer a similar demise, yet also we meet his new social circle, a wealthy group of Socialites in the Art World. We’re introduced to neighbours Malcolm (Stephen Hagan) and his girlfriend, Kate (Charlotte Ritchie). The former is arrogant and quick to grate on Joe‘s nerves, while the latter is standoffish and cold, working with Simon, another rich kid who’s made a name for himself in the Art circle. Like clockword, friends in the circle begin disappearing mysteriously and we wonder why… Hmm. Above this, Joe learns what it’s like to be stalked, receiving mysterious text messages. Someone out there knows the truth.
Taking the Series to London is actually a brilliant choice as it adds several new elements and personalities to the mix. The “fish out of water” component adds an exciting layer of suspense and intrigue. The stakes are upped with his potential victims being more high-profile than ever. Joe simply can’t resist getting involved, even though he’s committed to staying under the radar, careful not to reveal too much about his past. But like before, he just can’t help himself. And we need this as the Series thrives on him misbehaving and making literally, fatal errors.
This new season keeps many of the things that we loved so much about its predecessors, namely Penn Badgeley‘s creepily-delicious delivery, drawing us right in once again to the dark side with his paranoia and overthinking. Ritchie also is fantastic as Kate unpeeling the layers as we learn more about her backstory, the close Joe gets. She certainly has some big shoes to fill with Elizabeth Lail and Victoria Pedretti entertaining us with some superb work as Joe‘s past loves, but handles the role with aplomb. We also get some exciting new additions like Euphoria‘s Lukas Gage as the unpredictable Adam and Tilly Keeper as Lady Phoebe, giving some much-needed Comedy to the mix.
Season Four of YOU arrives on Netflix in two parts, February 10, 2023, then March 9, 2023.
We’re about to enter Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the release of ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA takes us into the Quantum Realm! With themes of family, vulnerability, this just might be the most relatable installment in the MCU yet.
Secrets are uncovered and those surrounding Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) are forced to confront the truth. Peyton Reed directs, while Kevin Feige and Stephen Broussard produce.
Director Peyton Reed is asked what the signature is for these Ant-Man movies.
Reed: “The Ant-man movies have always been about family. It’s a generational story about a family of heroes. Scott Lang is getting sucked-into this world and Hope Van Dyne who is the legacied daughter of superheroes. It’s this generational thing. So young Cassie Lang is probably Scott‘s biggest motivational factor. Time with is daughter – he wants to be a the hero obviously, but it’s really about work-life balance and finding time with his daughter. We continue story of this family. We broaden that story and start to talk about the secrets that family members keep from each other. From the beginning we find out maybe Janet hasn’t told the family about her 30 years in the Quantum Realm, maybe Hope and Hank haven’t told Scott what they’re working on with Cassie in the basement and Cassie hasn’t told her dad about her time spent in jail. Everyone keep secrets from Scott at the beginning of the Movie and suddently we’re thrurst into Quantum Realm and have to face this.”.
Paul Rudd talks about reprising this fan-favourite role.
Rudd: “I think that he really does want to be a dad and I think that’s his main focus, so he’s always had a love-hate relationship with it, I think. I feel he’s now accepted it and he’s happy most of it is in the rear-view mirror and now we can have normal life and spend time together. Doesn’t last as long as he thought that it would. He’s grown a lot over the course of the movies in nine years. He’s just a regular guy, regular job, brought into group with no innate super abilities but went up and fought Thanos. He’s experienced a thing or two and he’s accepted who he is.”.
“I wouldn’t say is taking a victory lap others but others might say that, he’s written a book – a bit of Memoir and explaining everything going on in life and his experience with Avengers. He’s ready to have some time and be a normal dad. There’s some issues there as we missed out on a lot and I want to recapture some of those years. Cassie is older and has ideas of her own. We’re trying to grapple with all of that.”.

Evangeline Lilly talks to what Hope Van Dyne is up to.
Lilly: “Hope started the first Ant-Man film a very cold, detached isolaled woman. She didn’t have a lot of relationships in her life, a lot of broken relationships . Over course of three films, I’ve had this incredible arc to be able to play where she has in that time, repaired her relationship with her father, reuinted with her long-lost mother and fallen in love with Scott and she’s become a stepmom to Cassie. Life is full of love. She’s a blossomed version of the woman we met. She’s thriving, taking that love and trying to do right in the world and fix massive issues and she’s doing it with success. Then there’s this missing piece where she’d always fantasized about her mother coming home one day when she was eight years old. And she really keeps hope on the outside. And that’s a wound that’s festering at the beginning of the Film.
Kevin Feige is asked what the Quantum Realm is:
Feige: “We first saw it in first Ant-Man film. This was an idea Paul had early on, ‘What if we explore this idea of Quantum Mechanics’?. Things act very different at a quantum level and Paul was talking about all the storytelling and the imagination you can have there. The first film is the origins story and at the end of it, we got a taste of it. That led to where we took it in Endgame. It’s a place at the subatomic level where space and time act differently. It allows us to time travel and have this entire manic quantumness in this Film which Janet had only seen before. There is an entire universe below surface where we meet fun, crazy characters.”.
Michael Douglas is asked about what draws audiences to the Ant-Man films.
Douglas: “I think the Ant-Man pictures refer to family a lot. There’s a certain vulnerability and a sense of humour that exists which is a pleasure. This is really joyful as i’m learning more about experience than I’ve known. There’s a fun element which seems to relate to all different ages. Someone like me, who’s mostly referenced to R-rated movies, this has been a pleasure having younger kids coming-up and enjoying it.”.
Michelle Pfeiffer talks about Janet Van Dyne‘s secrets and choices.
Pfeiffer: “After being reuinted with my husband Hank and daughter Hope after being rescued after 30 years in the Quantum Realm, she’s savouring this time together. She’s been decidedly so secretive about her time down there and not wanting to get into that until of course, we all find ourselves down in the parallel universe and world. She’s forced to come forth with the truth in a place where she’d hoped she’d never seee again. 30 years is a long time and people have needs, let’s not be judgmental. There’s lot of suprises for the family, for some more than others. Some choices are questionable. But they’re a very forgiving family. Her story is very much a part of the whole family secrets theme that runs through the Film.

Jonathan Majors talks about his villain Kang the Conqueror.
Majors: “Who’s Kang? That’s a question we will all be answering for a very long time. Quick answer, he’s a time-travelling super-villain who’s also a nexus being. There’s multple versions of Kang. They occupy different universes, mutli-verses and have different intentions. All different beings. There’s a through-line between them and that’s the Kang gene. In a nutshell, that’s all I got. Kang the Conqueror is stuck in the Quantum Realm and he has some issues with some variants he’s not about it. When he’s down there, he met Janet.”.
Kathryn Newton has dreamed of playing a superhero and gets her wish in ANT-MAN & THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA.
Newton: “Last night at the premiere, someone asked me what the first Marvel movie was that I saw. Iron-Man is what I said and that was the first one. I was eight. Since the first time I saw a Marvel movie, I wanted to be a superhero. That was my superlative in the yearbook. I really wanted to be a part of this. I went to the movies with my dad and really wanted to be a superhero. I told myself I wanted to be the biggest superhero of all time and it’s ironic Cassie grows 40 feet, which is proof dreams do come true.”.
Producer Stephen Broussand talks about the Freedom Fighters.
Broussand: ‘When we arrive in Quantum Realm, we get thrust into a battle because Kang the Conqueror has risen to power. We meet Freedom Fighters at the tip of the sphere fighting back. It was fun introducing new characters. We meet their leader Jentorra (Katie O’Brian), Quaz (William Jackson Harper) and David Dastmalchian playing the Alien, Veb. They’re serious about defending territory and pushing back against everything they find themselves in. People are really going to enjoy meeting them.”.
Marvel Studios Canada release ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA in theatres February 17, 2023.

This version of the film has just been updated with recent events, so it is a Canadian premiere! The screening will be followed by a special discussion for International Women’s Day with the Canadian journalist Lisa Laflamme, focused on the experiences of women in the Ukraine conflict, and the particular vulnerabilities of women and children in wartime.
“The HRW Canada Film Festival makes an effort to celebrate diversity of content and perspective in both the films we select and the post-screening conversations we host,” explained festival programmers Jennifer Baichwal and Nicholas de Pencier. “We strive to prioritize space for identities, viewpoints, forms of expertise and experiences either silenced or marginalized in the mainstream film industry, news, and media.”
“Discussions with filmmakers, film participants, human rights activists and journalists take place after every screening to provide our audience with the opportunity to dig deeper into the issues they have just seen on screen,” said Hot Docs director of programming, Shane Smith.
“The wide range of documentaries chosen for this year’s special 20th Anniversary program is a testament to the breadth of HRW’s focus, and the excellence of independent film,” added John Biaggi, director of the Human Rights Watch Film Festival.
The five films selected for the festival program include (listed in order of screening date):

Synopsis: Freedom on Fire is a behind the scenes and beyond the headlines view of the war in Ukraine from the Academy Award® nominated filmmaker Evgeny Afineevsky (Winter on Fire). This is filmmaking from the heart, beautifully capturing the resilience of the Ukrainian people in their fight against the Russian invasion. A logistical tour de force, with 43 cinematographers (including the filmmaker) filming in over 20 Ukrainian cities, Freedom on Fire captures the stories of children, mothers, soldiers, doctors, artists, volunteers, clergymen, and journalists as viewers witness the transformation of a country fighting for its very survival.

“Despite the ongoing brutality, the nation is not on its knees. The movie’s essence is singing, hugging, volunteers bearing gifts, and children drawing pictures for the soldiers who are keeping them safe. That’s beauty: People who know how to laugh and love,” said filmmaker Evgeny Afineevsky.

KOROMOUSSO, BIG SISTER World Premiere
Directed by: Habibata Ouarme and Jim Donovan
Presented on: Thursday, March 9 | 7:00 p.m. screening
Synopsis: Canada-based codirectors Habibata Ouarme and Jim Donovan capture personal stories and deep moments of support in a small community of women from West Africa, who are confronting social norms and embracing the inherent power in pleasure and love for their own bodies. With candor, humour and courage, a group of African-Canadian women challenge cultural taboos surrounding female sexuality and fight to take back ownership of their bodies.
Working with codirector Jim Donovan and combining her own journey with personal accounts from some of her friends, codirector Habibata Ouarme explores the lifelong effects of female genital mutilation and the road to individual and collective healing, both in Africa and in Canada. These women begin a journey of personal discovery, with discussions on the importance of female pleasure and the complexity of the female anatomy, while working to shed long-held feelings of shame and loneliness. While finding strength and joy in their own frank and intimate conversations together, Habibata and her friends continue to advocate for wider access to restorative surgery and community conversations in Canada and worldwide.
“This film brings more than an education on a harmful traditional practice that’s still practiced in parts of West Africa – it captures the stories of solidarity among these irrepressible, strong African women,” said Mausi Segun, Africa division director at Human Rights Watch.
Programming: A post-screening discussion with Regina Tamés, deputy women’s rights director at Human Rights Watch. Panelists include Habibata Ouarme, a FGM survivor and filmmaker; Jim Donovan, filmmaker, and Doctor Angela Deane, OBGYN and advocate for those affected by FGM/C.

THE GRAB
Directed by: Gabriela Cowperthwaite
Presented on: Friday, March 10 | 7:00 p.m. screening

The new global thriller from the renowned director of Blackfish combines hard-hitting journalism with compelling, character-driven storytelling, taking viewers around the globe from Arizona to Zambia, China to Saudi Arabia, to reveal one of the world’s biggest and least exposed threats.
Quietly and seemingly out of sight, governments, financial investors, and private security forces are dividing up the world’s last remaining food and water resources. Communities are forced to stand by as their aquifers are sucked dry, and land they have owned for generations is grabbed from under their feet. As the scale of the run on natural resources is uncovered by a team of investigative reporters, issues bubble to the surface in real time. Russia’s attack on Ukraine uses food access as a geopolitical tool, and global food prices hit an all-time high.
Programming: Introductory remarks by Farida Deif, Canada director at Human Rights Watch, followed by a conversation with filmmakers Gabriela Cowperthwaite, Nick de Pencier, and Jennifer Baichwal.

In a country that kills the highest number of trans, Indigenous, and environmentalist youth worldwide, Uýra leads a rising movement through arts and education while fostering unity and providing inspiration for the LGBT and environmental movements in the heart of the Amazon Forest. Uýra’s performances are a metaphor inspired by the ecological cycle that mirrors social struggles: the destruction of the soil and violence against life, followed by the re-emergence of young plants that germinate quickly and make way for a renewed, stronger ecosystem.
Programming: Post-screening discussion moderated by Rasha Younes, senior LGBT researcher at Human Rights Watch. Other panelists to be determined.
Accessibility: The film is captioned; the discussion panel following the film will be interpreted live in sign language.
NO U-TURN

Synopsis: As a young man, the celebrated Nigerian director Ike Nnaebue left Nigeria taking the route via Benin, Mali, and Mauritania to Morocco where he was forced to turn back, unable to reach Europe. In his first documentary, No U-Turn, he retraces the life-changing journey he made over 20 years ago.
Along the way, he meets those who are taking the same trip and, through conversations with them, tries to understand what motivates young people today to expose themselves to the dangers of a passage into an uncertain future. Most are aware of the dangers of traveling undocumented by road, yet more and more are joining the ranks of those who take this risk, despite widely circulated images and terrifying testimony found online of people who have been lured into slavery and bondage. Overlaid with a powerful poetic commentary, this self-reflective travelogue hints at the deep longing of an entire generation for a better life.
“Why is it unrealistic to dream of a comfortable life in a continent of abundant resources?” said Ike Nnaebue, director, No U-Turn.
Programming: Panel discussion on Zoom with filmmaker, Ike Nnaebue and Michel Chikwanine, former child soldier and public speaker. Moderated by host of CBC Podcasts’ new weekly world news podcast, Nothing is Foreign, Tamara Khandaker. Keynote speaker to be determined.

Get ready to feel some pride, Canada. Today MADE | NOUS launched its new campaign, MADE Better, designed to show Canadians how much they have to celebrate when it comes to the entertainment industry.
Canadian talent is behind some of the most diverse and impactful storytelling at home and around the world, including Simu Liu, the first Asian lead in a Marvel movie (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings); Domee Shi, the first woman to direct a Pixar movie solo (Turning Red); and Devery Jacobs, Paulina Alexis, and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai – three Canadian Indigenous actors starring in the U.S. hit Reservation Dogs, the first series to have all Indigenous creatives at the helm.
Following the success of 2021’s SEEK MORE campaign, which resulted in a 51% net gain in favourable perceptions around diversity in Canadian content*, MADE Better includes a series of 30-second montages that highlight Canadians in film, television, video games, and digital entertainment. Presented by the Canada Media Fund (CMF) and Telefilm Canada, the spots will air on major broadcast networks from February to April, with shorter digital spots running online (#MADEBetter).
“MADE Better is a bold celebration of Canada’s talent and creatives. The tagline may be cheeky and confident, but it’s true – Canadians are in front of the camera and behind the scenes on some of the biggest blockbuster films, TV series, and video games. Our goal is to celebrate Canadians making better entertainment every day,” said Valerie Creighton, President & CEO, Canada Media Fund.
The campaign’s central message is that Canadian storytelling is simply made better, including in comedy (MADE Funny), video game design (MADE Thrilling), and diversity (MADE Historic). The montages also bring awareness to actors and properties audiences may already love but not realize are Canadian.
Since its launch in 2019, the MADE | NOUS initiative has put the spotlight on Canada’s world-class talent to shift perceptions of Canadian content at home and abroad. To date, ambassadors who’ve supported the initiative include Stephan James, Shamier Anderson, Devery Jacobs, Amanda Brugel, Karine Vanasse, Simu Liu, Jay Baruchel, Hamza Haq, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Kaniehtiio Horn. MADE | NOUS campaigns have achieved an overwhelmingly positive sentiment in audience perception of Canadian storytelling, and a favourable opinion of CanCon and the Canadian entertainment industry.**
The MADE Better campaign was developed by TORQUE Strategies, 123w, and Rethink Canada.

Actress/Model/Activist Pamela Anderson got the pink carpet treatment tonight at a special screening of Netflix Documentary, PAMELA, A LOVE STORY. The BC native has been on a whirlwind Media Tour simultaneously promoting the Film and also her just-released Memoir LOVE, PAMELA, including a book signing at Indigo Eaton Centre.
Anderson shot to fame internationally in the ’90s with starring roles on popular series like Home Improvement and Baywatch and after some time away from the spotlight, she is back to re-frame the narrative of her own story. She is here to deliver an empowering message of forgiveness and embracing oneself and the Documentary chronicles her rise to stardom, the misogyny she was subject to and how while on the verge of superstardom, the theft of a private home video has come to shape her identity in the public eye as a sex symbol.
PAMELA, A LOVE STORY is directed by Ryan White and produced by Anderson’s son Brandon Thomas Lee, the latter who appears in the Film as well. They graced the pink carpet tonight alongside Anderson, being met with warm reception and excitement despite it having been released already on Netflix.
“It’s all very surreal because I feel very rooted-for, I feel loved. I feel like I’ve been such an observer of my life. I know who I am but this cartoon character kind of annexed me for part of my career. Raising two boys, I felt like I could relate to a lot of women. I just wanted to be able to tell my story”, says Anderson.
The Screening was followed by a Q&A with Moderator Richard Crouse, where White, Lee and Anderson spoke to the fantastic response the Film is receiving. Anderson admittedly still has yet to see it in its entirety, but reveals that she feels something great is ahead. Just yesterday, Corus Studios announced that two series with Anderson have just been greenlit. More here.
A Reel of highlights from the evening:
@mrwillwong What a night! So honoured to attend a special pink carpet screening of #PamelaALoveStory. This powerful, raw and intimate portrait of icon #PamelaAnderson is a must-see. Anderson reframes the narrative around her story fearlessly and givingly. The Documentary is out now on Netflix, time with the release of her Memoir, #LovePamela. An unforgettable experience!
