It was an unforgettable Holiday and while we look forward to welcoming a new year in, we had to send off 2023 properly. This Holiday we got to test drive the 2023 Acura RDX Platinum Elite. The gorgeous SUV retailing at $63,329 CAN is a perfect balance of class, style and purpose. Our vehicle came in a timeless Liquid Carbon Metallic. Time and again, our passengers would come in, plop themselves into the passenger’s seat, making bold statements how the RDX Platinum Elite A-SPEC was well above its actual retail value. My brother, a self-professed Auto Expert, guessed, “This has gotta be worth minimum six figures!”. Let them think what they will!
It was a year of highs and lows and we find ourselves feeling most introspective at this time of year. The RDX Platinum Elite A-SPEC was ready to take on whatever unpredictable conditions the weather was ready to throw its way as we cleared our thoughts reflecting on the happy and the sad. We saw what seemed like endless rain and clouds to snow during our test drive and the SUV was equally adept and unwavering every time no matter what. Acura continues to wow us with their recent generation of offerings and we equally were impressed by this experience.
The RDX Platinum Elite A-SPEC is powered by a 2.0-litre, 16-valve, Direct Injection, DOHC, VTEC® turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, running at 272 horsepower. It boasts Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ and bottom line is we never felt short of power, the SUV raring to go quickly after every step of the brakes! Though the Idle Stop feature always has taken a bit of getting used to, more so than before this time it felt seamless.
Right off the bat, we noticed how incredibly fuel-efficient the RDX is. We counted exactly four days of driving to and from the City, plus a trek to Buffalo from Toronto before we had to fuel-up. It runs on a recommendation of Premium fuel. You get lots of value and run for your money.
Your daily drives are enhanced by its ELS Studio® 3D Premium Audio System with AM/FM/MP3/Windows Media® audio playback capability and a whopping 16 speakers! Connecting our phone via Bluetooth was was a breeze, enabling us to stay on-top of incoming texts and calls, while enjoying our custom Holiday playlist. Having SiriusXM always is a blessing and we can’t imagine morning drives without SiriusXM Hits 1! The RDX is stacked with charging options including wireless charging and an abundance of USB ports for you and your passengers, front and back.
Safety matters most to us and the RDX has a way of being tirelessly-focussed on both active and passive safety, without being overbearing about it. We can’t count how many test drives we’ve been on where the car is beeping at us endlessly when all we’re trying to do is reverse out of a parking spot. The RDX does the same without being over-aggressive about it.
In terms of passive safety, you get dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags (SRS); Front knee airbags; Side curtain airbags with rollover sensor system; and SmartVent™ front side airbags. We see Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure offered more and more frequently on sister company Honda‘s vehicles and we get it here too. And we always get a rear seat reminder telling us not to forget sweet beanie in her PetSafe Booster Seat (sold independently). Did we mention its Immobilizer theft-deterrent system?
Speaking to active safety, the RDX gives us 4-wheel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS); Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS®); Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD); Forward Collision Warning (FCW) system; Front and rear low-speed Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB); Hill Start Assist; Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system; Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) system; Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with location and pressure indicators; Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA®) with Traction Control; Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow; Blind Spot Information (BSI) system with Rear Cross Traffic Monitor system; Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS); and Traffic sign recognition even, which we confirmed worked just as well in the U.S. as in Canada.
Above this, parking and reversing are effortless with its multi-angle rear-view camera and surround view camera system. You get Keyless Entry, remote engine start and also the amazing walk-away lock which wastes no time securing your vehicle the moment you step away. Literally, this is the world we live in today where you’d actually need this.
The RDX is elegance and Acura gets all the details right. Interior accent lighting is elegance understated. Everything is at the touch of your fingertip and at the center of it all is its 10.2″ HD colour centre display with True Touchpad Interface. It comes ready with Acura’s Navigation System with Voice Recognition™ and Alexa is built-in already. Driver and passenger (the ones in the back too!) each get to customize their experience with dual-zone automatic climate control with air-filtration system, plus seat warmers and coolers. An SUV for all seasons.
The Driver and front passenger get 16-way power adjustable driver’s and front passenger’s seat, including lumbar support, thigh extension, and side bolster. The equality and love for all who choose Acura, is unparalleled. The RDX Platinum Elite A-SPEC is striking, coming with Ultrasuede™ & Leather-trimmed seating surfaces. Both front seats are programmable by memory system. Other aesthetic enhancements include metal sport pedals and a stunning moonroof.
We’re already thrilled to see what possibly Acura could do to make the 2024 rendition of the RDX even better than it already is!
A journey through our Holidays in the 2023 Acura RDX Platinum Elite A-SPEC!
Wishing you and your loved ones a safe 2024. We look forward to making more memories together with you! May all your dreams come true.

2023 was a phenomenal year for Film. So much that this impending awards season is actually still a wide open affair. So when tasked with recalling the year’s best, this year particularlt more than others, Team Mr. Will all have their very own unique takes on the Movies that comprise their Top Ten lists. And if that, narrowing down a list itself to just ten particularly was difficult this year.
That being said, 2023 was a monumental year for the team, navigating the SAG-AFTRA Strike and the barriers to still deliver an abundance of coverage during TIFF. We were proud to bring coverage from Cannes, several films which premiered there, now making their presence felt right now.
A huge thanks goes to Amanda Gilmore, David Baldwin, Nicholas Porteous, George Kozera and Justin Waldman for their hard work and contributions to the site this year and for so many years now. And we thank you our loyal readers and followers for being there as we worked though some very challenging situations these past few years.
Without further ado, Team Mr. Will proudly present our 2023 Top Tens … or st least we tried!
And in cased you missed Mr. Will’s very star-studded 2023 A Year in Review, here it is!

The Holidays are a time for inspiration and Academy Award winner George Clooney is back with just that, directing THE BOYS IN THE BOAT. Based on Daniel James Brown’s 2013 best-selling Book of the same title, this is the story of the 1936 University of Washington Rowing Team overcoming destitution during the Great Depression to compete for gold at the Summer Olympics in Berlin. The Team today remains one of the most prestigious in the sport.
We recently got to participate in a global press junket with the Cast and Creators of THE BOYS IN THE BOAT. Joining us were:
George Clooney, Director
Callum Turner, Joe Rantz
Joel Edgerton, Coach Al Ulbrickson
Hadley Robinson, Joyce Simdars
Grant Heslov, Producer
George Clooney is asked about the challenges of making Rowing look intense and exciting.
Clooney: “It’s like Formula 1 in a way – you can’t see speed from far back and you have to be up close. We had to come up with the math to make Rowing look exciting and engergetic.”.
Producer Grant Heslov comments on the battle of securing rights to adapt the New York Times Best-Seller.
Heslov: “We chased the Book when it first came out, and I’m still mad about we didn’t get it.”.
Clooney explains what drew him to bringing THE BOYS IN THE BOAT to the big screen most.
Clooney: “It’s a Depression-era story. Washington was a new state then and a new part of the world. Rowing was on the map here compared to the legacy schools. These men were lumperbacks and got together like The Beatles, and together could be good enough to win the Olympics. They wound up being incredible men who made an incredible team.”.
“I like good stories. I think it’s fun when you can see how they’ve written the Book or the Play. It’s always interesting to find a way to make it a film, it’s very different way to tell a story.”.
English Actor Callum Turner recalls the grueling preparation process for his role as Joe Rantz.
Turner: “None of us knew how to row. It was February and the river is snowing, we’re wearing tight shorts, it’s freezing cold and we have no skills on the boat. We weren’t in a good place and you could see the pain in George’s face. We had to learn a new skill and be in unison – the hardest part about Rowing. If one person is off by a millimetre, the boat suffers.”
Clooney: “They trained every day for five months.”.
Turner: “We ate together, went out together, exercised together, but didn’t sleep together”, he jokes. “The Book so rich, the story so true. It is a beautiful underdog story.”. “It’s remkarable what he was able to achieve.”.
Hadley Robinson gained global recognition on HBO series WINNING TIME, but tackles a different sport here. She plays Joyce Simdars, Joe’s wife.
Robinson: “I’m doing a lot of clapping and a lot of cheering! I love it and I love a period piece. This is an interesting time in history. These people are destitute, struggling to make ends meet. They’re all working to put food on their plates. I love working in this time period. Finding the hope and light within people going through so much. They have such high hopes and need to have light because they’re in this situation.”.
Joel Edgerton plays Coach Al Ulbrickson, a role he looked forward to playing, having had multiple coaches in his life.
Edgerton: “I just loved when I first talked to George and read the Script. He was described as this coach who seemed to derive zero pleasure from his job. I often look at coaches and think, ‘Why are you even doing this?’. I started to realize behind those grimaces, there’s guys who care too much and it reminds me of the relationships between fathers and sons. They’re like dads to me. I had many coaches who were just like tough dads and I really wanted to please them. I was excited to play a coach and not go through what Callum went through.”.
Heslovrov comments on the boats seen in the Film.
Heslov: “We had to build all the boats. Those old boats are made out of wood and incredibly heavy. These boats were made out of fiberglass to look like wood. We had to make about 25 boats.”.
Turner: “The Rowers went into the boats and they were amazed. One of the most grueling experiences of my life. They gave us an Olympic gold medal-winning coach and therapists. The last two weeks were the races and we had to build towards that moment.”.

Toronto-born, Montreal-raised, Matt Chessco is a former industrial designer and mechanical engineer who left his full-time job during the pandemic to pursue his dream of becoming an artist.  Using celebrity muses such as Billie Ellish, he began painting with acrylic on canvas with his playful combinations of vibrant colours, distinctive van Gogh-like strokes, and a Warhol-esque style of pop art.  Chessco’s first solo exhibition, ArtOfficial, presented by the Canadian National Exhibition, is open to the public at Withrow Common Gallery until January 5, and features 57 paintings including portraits of cultural icons from celebrities such as Harry Styles, Taylor Swift and Cardi B, to Bob Ross, SpongeBob SquarePants and Chewbacca.   *For Holiday hours, please go to www.withrowcommon.ca.
Â
Part of the CNE’s goal to present the exhibition is to foster conversations around the future of art, technology, artificial intelligence and human expression.  During the exhibition run, Chessco has taken his Artist Residency at Withrow Common Gallery to create new works to add to his collection — including the unveiling of an original portrait of global music icon and Toronto’s very own, Drake.  Chessco will debut the portrait in true form, using his social media channels and viral creation videos that he is known for.
Â
His art has reached the homes of many celebrities like Post Malone, Bella Poarch, Corn Kid and Gary Vee; but it is his social media videos on Tik Tok and YouTube that have generated worldwide attention.  While the concept of artists sharing painting videos on Tik Tok was gaining popularity, Chessco took it to the next level with highly stylized, choreographed videos using stop-motion to capture the layers of his art.  Within the span of three years, he has acquired over 2.4M subscribers on YouTube, and 2.8M followers on TikTok while his videos have received over 2 billion views across all platforms.  IG/Tik Tok: @mattchessco
