This includes elevated speaker engagements like the popular In Conversation With… series, TIFF Industry Conference panels, and events designed to inspire and spark future collaborations. The 49th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival, presented by Rogers, will take place September 5–15, 2024.
TIFF’s In Conversation With… (ICW) series is pleased to welcome Cate Blanchett, Zoe Saldaña, Steven Soderbergh, and Hyun Bin and Lee Dong-wook, five original iconoclasts that will captivate audiences though intimate, moderated discussions about their work and creative processes.
“TIFF 2024’s stellar lineup of speakers for our iconic In Conversation With… series reflects our vision that film and creative culture have the power to open minds, spark new ideas, and impact the world around us,” said Anita Lee, TIFF’s Chief Programming Officer. “We are thrilled to connect our public audiences with a dynamic roster of global trailblazers through these in-depth conversations.”
Visionaries, a favourite part of TIFF’s Industry Conference, features inspirational onstage conversations with individuals who are forging creative and business pathways in the industry. This year’s illustrious list of Visionaries are: Alfonso Cuarón, Pete Docter, Franklin Leonard, Steven Moffat, and Malala Yousafzai. The Media Partner for the programme is The Hollywood Reporter. The full Industry programming lineup will be announced later this week.
“TIFF is the world’s largest public film festival because we have cultivated audiences across all demos by ensuring a scope of programming that delivers a rich array of public and Industry initiatives,” continued Lee. “As we approach the 50th edition of the Festival next year and our very first official content market in 2026, we look forward to future collaborations with our Industry partners, creators, and visionaries, ensuring that TIFF continues to grow as a voice for new ideas, collaboration, and cultural exchange for all.”

His dual triumphs at the 2000 Academy Awards — a Best Director win for Traffic and nomination for Erin Brockovich — is testament to his gift for balancing critical acclaim with popular success, as evidenced further by Contagion (2011), Magic Mike (2012), and Behind the Candelabra (2013). Beyond the director’s chair, Soderbergh’s contributions as producer, editor, and cinematographer have solidified his status as a singular force in contemporary filmmaking. [If you’ve been paying attention to celebrity news and fashion lately, you’ll notice that glasses have become more than just a vision necessity. They’ve been embraced by celebrities and fashionistas alike as the perfect accessory to cap off an already stunning outfit. As a matter of fact, fashion technology company Lyst noted that searches for optical glasses increased by 30% in mid-2023 as consumers looked for ways to emulate their favorite celebrities’ glasses game.
So, we’ve rounded up five Hollywood A-listers and icons who have proven that spectacles can be the ultimate accessory. Here’s a closer glimpse at how Zendaya, Robert Downey Jr., Emily Ratajkowski, Ryan Gosling, and Haily Bieber rock the bespectacled look, along with tips on how you can elevate your approach to eyewear.

From her early days as a child star at Disney to becoming a red-carpet fixture, beloved Gen Z icon Zendaya has made a name for herself through her on- and off-screen versatility. Notoriously a relatively private person, her fans rejoiced upon seeing photos of her on a date wearing a simple outfit comprised of a plain, white T-shirt, ball cap, and round, wire-framed glasses. This isn’t the first time Zendaya’s been spotted with spectacles. When she’s not gracing the covers of fashion magazines, she’s often seen donning chic glasses ranging from chunky frames to classic cat-eye silhouettes. To copy her date night look, opt for subtle styles like the New Caravan Optics by Ray-Ban in silver paired with a minimalist outfit for a balanced and timeless appearance.

Best known for his portrayal of Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Robert Downey Jr. is rarely seen not wearing designer eyewear. His eclectic collection of frames embodies a mix of intellectual charisma and confidence. But perhaps RDJ’s most consistent choice of glasses are those with hued lenses. You can emulate his mastery of the geek-chic trend by experimenting with tinted specs or prescription glasses if you need vision correction. On Eyebuydirect, you can customize glasses and truly make any frame your own by choosing from an array of tint colors that can be adjusted from light to dark tint strengths.

Supermodel, actress, and My Body author Emily Ratajkowski never lets a day go by without making a fashion statement. Regardless of whether she’s grabbing a cup of coffee or taking her dog for a stroll, somehow, she can make any chore look sophisticated. Based on her plethora of paparazzi photos, Ratajkowski has a penchant for oval glasses with slim metal or clear acetate frames that flatter her face shape. Her retro yet contemporary vibe can be captured with the Admission frames from Oakley paired with an elegant coat in the winter or colorful patterns in summer.

Ryan Gosling is known for dressing up similarly to the characters he plays in the films he stars in. For instance, during the Barbie press tour, the actor was seen dressed in pleasing pastels reminiscent of the film’s color palette. On the rare occasion that he does rock glasses, they frequently complement his personal suave and understated persona. Even when he pairs them with a red carpet look, his eyewear choices enhance his dapper tuxedos, as he likes to stick to simple and elegant frames, similar to the Elliot glasses from Ray-Ban. You can achieve his laid-back look by opting for aviator or square frames in neutral tones with casual but refined outfits for a touch of everyday sophistication.

These days, Hailey Bieber has been keeping busy as the creative director of her beauty brand, Rhode, and churning out viral content on social media. Her nearly 12 million follower base on TikTok can always count on her to provide makeup and style tips. Recently, she even made headlines after posting a casual selfie sporting oversized glasses, a sleek bun, and minimal makeup. In the past, she’s also revealed her love for glasses as an accessory to elevate her ensembles, from angular wireframes to bold rectangular spectacles. Bieber’s status as a tastemaker was further cemented just this year when she shot an exclusive campaign for Ray-Ban and Saint Laurent’s luxury glasses collab.
Whether you’re into timeless elegance, geek chic, retro glamour, classic cool, or high-fashion edge, these five celebrities showcase the diverse ways eyewear can enhance personal style. The next time you’re in search of the perfect pair of glasses, draw inspiration from these trendsetters and let your eyewear become a reflection of your unique fashion flair.

Ideal for celebrations of 20 to 200 guests, these adaptable spaces offer an excellent backdrop for weddings, family reunions, holiday parties, birthdays, or gatherings with friends.
Within the walls of the hotel are two highly anticipated restaurants, helmed by Executive Chef Jon Turner. With a focus on farm to table, the new Canadian inspired menus use locally sourced, seasonal ingredients to create an authentic dining experience. On the main floor, The Lobby operates as both a café and bar, providing a range of options from breakfast through dinner. The menu features reimagined classics and standout dishes like Yellowfin Tuna Crudo, Fogo Island Shrimp Rolls, and their unique take on the Smashburger. The striking rooftop restaurant, Overlea, opening on August 9, offers brunch and dinner with unparalleled city views. Its menu includes distinctive dishes such as Seared Venison Carpaccio with black walnut, sorrel, smoked salt, and urfa peppers, as well as Ontario Sweet Corn and Ricotta Stuffed Cappelletti. Brunch offerings include Sour Cherry Pancakes and Montreal Smoked Meat Benedict. Each restaurant provides a unique experience and can be booked for private events.
“The Postmark Hotel has always been something special, ever since its inception as a post office in 1914,” said Avi Wulfand, general manager of The Postmark Hotel. “We are thrilled to bring to life this community hub in the heart of Newmarket.”
The Postmark Hotel is committed to offering a robust art program that showcases local and regional talent. Guest rooms and communal spaces feature original artwork selected by Lee Petrie, curator at Archive Hospitality. The first iteration of the program includes an oversized floral still life photograph by Kristin Sjaarda, a lace-inspired mirror sculpture by Lizz Aston, Moira Ness’s cheeky question “am I flirting with you?”, a painting that captures the beauty of transit architecture by Diogo Pinheiro and a 6-foot diameter layered acrylic disc by Kal Mansur.
