It was a smashing day of racing at Woodbine Racetrack this past Saturday as North America’s most historic race, the 166th running of the King’s Plate took place, drawing a full house that witnessed MANSETTI upset the $1 million race in thrilling near wire-to-wire fashion.
What makes it even more impressive is that 20-year-old apprentice jockey Pietro Moran guided the victory for son and father duo Al & Bill Ulwelling, and Team Kevin Attard, who also won last year’s edition with filly CAITLINHERGRTNESS. Attard achieved a rare three-peat, winning three stakes on the card. It is reported that the senior Ulwelling had suffered a mild heart attack watching the race, but is now reported to be doing well. Moran, also was competing in the race with his father David, who rode eighth-place finisher WILLIAM T. It is said that this is historic first for a father and son both to be riding in the race.
Named after a Minnesota pizza shop, MANSETTI delivered for his backers with $38.70 on a $2 wager, keeping a fast-closing TOM’S MAGIC in second, with post-time favourite NOTORIOUS GANGSTER racing third. The score boosts the winner’s lifetime earnings to $689,872 in eight starts. The first runner-up is being pointed to the final jewel in the Canadian Triple Crown, the Breeders’ Stakes on September 28, 2025 at Woodbine.
$17,004,451 was bet on the card, an impressive number for the extended 13-race card which featured a whopping six stake races.
Other highlights include:
SHE FEELS PRETTY winning one of the meet’s marquee races, the Grade I E.P. Taylor, making her a perfect two-for-two at Woodbine, taking the Grade I Natalma here as a two-year-old for Lael Stables and top trainer Cherie DeVaux. John Velazquez re-teamed with her for the win, which earns her a spot in this Fall’s Breeders’ Cup. The remarkable Karakontie filly now has banked over $2.2 million.
GAS ME UP was full of fuel in the Grade II King Edward for Team Kevin Attard driving up to win under Flavien Prat for owners Ex-line Border Racing, Jawl, Kennedy & Ziesler. The five-year-old son of Hard Spun is proof of iconic Sam-Son Farm‘s lasting quality in breeding.
SIMCOE dominated the Grade III Bold Venture, one of two stakes scores that day for Rafael Hernandez, riding for Chiefswood Stable and Team Katerina Vassilieva. This marks the Uncle Mo gelding’s first stakes win.
TWO OUT HERO confirms the promise showed in his impressive debut, taking the Soaring Free for Gold Square LLC and Team Kevin Attard with Hernandez up. This was his groom Elaine’s first stakes winner ever. The War Front colt is being pointed to the Grade I Summer Stakes next month, a Breeders’ Cup Win-and-You’re-In race.
CORSIA VELOCE is a perfect two-for-two, like Two Out Hero after a win in the Catch a Glimpse Stakes for
Glenn Sikura (Hill ‘n’ Dale Farm) and Mario Serrani. Fraser Aebly was aboard the filly for the win, and she is conditioned by Team Josie Carroll. The promising Practical Joke filly looks Natalma Stakes-bound next month.

GRAMMY® Award-winning, multi-diamond selling superstar Cardi B releases “Imaginary Playerz” out now, the second offering from her highly anticipated upcoming sophomore album, Am I The Drama? available everywhere September 19th. Released today, the track is produced by DJ SwanQo, Sean Island, and OctaneThisThatGas, with a companion video directed by Cardi B and Patience Foster. To celebrate the launch of “Imaginary Playerz,” Cardi B will be taking over Apple Music Radio from their new Los Angeles studio for one hour of programming curated by Cardi herself. Fans can listen live at http://apple.co/am-studios.
Fresh off the heels of her showstopping WWE hosting debut at SummerSlam on August 2nd, Cardi hit the stage previewing new music from her forthcoming album, furthering the anticipation of its upcoming release. To kick off this new era, she dropped her first track “Outside,” available everywhere now. “Outside” debuted in the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 becoming her 13th Top 10 hit. In addition, “Outside” peaked at #1 on Apple Music during its release weekend, marking her first #1 since the multi-platinum “Up.”
The fiery new anthem release follows her appearance at the Cannes Spotify Beach Party on Wednesday, June 18th, where she debuted “Outside” live for the very first time. She also performed at LadyLand Festival in Brooklyn, NY, on Thursday, June 27th, where she was introduced by special guest Scarlet Envy—creating an iconic onstage moment.
“Enough (Miami),” released in March 2024, was a blazing track and the perfect record to kick off the spring break season. “Enough (Miami)” was accompanied by a high-octane companion visual (directed by: Patience Harding) following Cardi’s previous release, “Like What (Freestyle).” Both records served as the follow-up to a groundbreaking collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion, “Bongos.” Prior to “Bongos,” the pair released the historic and viral sensation, “WAP.” In 2020, this hit song (Feat. Megan Thee Stallion)” affirmed Cardi B as one of Apple Music’s most popular artists of all time, earning the platform’s highest-ever debut by a female artist as well as the fastest song in Apple Music history by a female artist to peak at #1. It also went #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, peaked at #1 on rhythmic radio, and rose to #2 on urban radio. “WAP” also won Favorite Song – Rap / Hip-Hop at the American Music Awards and won Best Collaboration and Video of the Year at the BET Awards. It was also nominated for Collaboration of the Year at the American Music Awards, nominated for five categories at the MTV Video Music Awards, and nominated for Best Music Video at the iHeart Music Awards. The visual has now reached over 550M views and the audio now has over 3.7B streams.
Dijon releases his new album Baby via R&R/Warner Records. Dijon first sparked rumors of new music after teasing a mysterious screenshot of a tracklist on Instagram, followed by a countdown on his website with a countdown to Baby. That pseudo-announcement capped off a momentous beginning to the year with Dijon appearing on Bon Iver’s new album SABLE, fABLE and his celebrated contributions to Justin Bieber’s SWAG (“DAISIES”, “DEVOTION” and more).
Most recently, his appearance in Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film One Battle After Another, was unveiled where he’s pictured in the most recent trailer alongside Leonardo DiCaprio.
With no single offerings, Baby marks Dijon’s first material since his groundbreaking 2021 debut album Absolutely. That album rippled through the musical landscape as a lasting body of work in the years that followed, lauded as one of the year’s best albums by The FADER, i-D, NPR, and many more. With the release of Absolutely the film, an intimate dining room live performance of the album, and a rendition of “Big Mike’s” on The Tonight Show, Dijon redefined the way recording artists approached performance visuals. The lore around the album left many to speculate on what a follow-up to a generational debut album sounds like, as Dijon disappeared and started a family.
Baby was made at home, mostly in isolation with his new family, along with musical kindred spirits Andrew Sarlo, Henry Kwapis, and Michael Gordon. The album represents another defining body of work from Dijon that will once again shift the sound of contemporary music. At its core, Baby retains the deliberate introspection of what fans have come to expect from a Dijon album. Examining new fatherhood and how rapidly his life has changed since Absolutely, the album is a collection of songs that represent the mania of domesticity. From song-to-song, Dijon captures the moments of ecstasy and tragedy that inevitably follow life-altering changes.
