#FIRSTLOOK: “STAR TREK: SECTION 31” STARRING MICHELLE YEOH ARRIVES JANUARY 24, 2025 – NEW TRAILER

Paramount+ announced that its original movie STAR TREK: SECTION 31 will premiere on Friday, January 24, exclusively on Paramount+ in Canada, the U.S. and international markets where the service is available. A new Trailer has been revealed.

In the movie, Yeoh reprises her fan-favorite role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou – a character she played in STAR TREK: DISCOVERY’s first season – who joins a secret division of Starfleet. Tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets, she also must face the sins of her past.

STAR TREK: SECTION 31 also stars Omari Hardwick (Power), Kacey Rohl (Hannibal), Emmy® winner Sam Richardson (Ted Lasso), Sven Ruygrok (One Piece), Robert Kazinsky (Pacific Rim), Canadian Humberly Gonzalez (Ginny & Georgia) and James Hiroyuki Liao (Barry). Miku Martineau (Kate) portrays a young Philippa Georgiou.

Written by Craig Sweeny and directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi, STAR TREK: SECTION 31 is executive produced by Alex Kurtzman, Craig Sweeny, Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth and Michelle Yeoh and is produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. SECTION 31 was filmed in Toronto earlier this year.

Synopsis:

From Blumhouse and visionary writer-director Leigh Whannell, the creators of the chilling modern monster tale The Invisible Man, comes a terrifying new lupine nightmare: Wolf Man.

Golden Globe nominee Christopher Abbott (Poor Things, It Comes at Night) stars as Blake, a San Francisco husband and father, who inherits his remote childhood home in rural Oregon after his own father vanishes and is presumed dead. With his marriage to his high-powered wife, Charlotte (Emmy winner Julia Garner; Ozark, Inventing Anna), fraying, Blake persuades Charlotte to take a break from the city and visit the property with their young daughter, Ginger (Matlida Firth; Hullraisers, Coma).

But as the family approaches the farmhouse in the dead of night, they’re attacked by an unseen animal and, in a desperate escape, barricade themselves inside the home as the creature prowls the perimeter. As the night stretches on, however, Blake begins to behave strangely, transforming into something unrecognizable, and Charlotte will be forced to decide whether the terror within their house is more lethal than the danger without.

#FIRSTLOOK: GLOBAL TELEVISION ANNOUNCE WINTER 2025 PROGRAMMING

Today, Global announced its winter 2025 programming lineup delivering a robust mix of gripping dramas, exciting game shows, and must-watch reality series. Kicking off the New Year is Global original and fan-favourite Family Law, returning for a third season on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Joining Global’s proven slate of hit procedurals is the brand-new medical drama Doc, inspired by a true story and starring Canadian Molly Parker, debuting Tuesday, January 7, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Plus, critically-acclaimed Morris Chestnut takes the lead in the modern Sherlock Holmes medical mystery series Watson premiering Sunday, January 26 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

Joining Global’s new drama slate this winter is the reimagined classic game show Hollywood Squares, starring award-winning Drew Barrymore as the centre square and hosted by Nate Burleson, the games begin Thursday, January 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Then, fall’s #1 late night show Saturday Night Live continues to celebrate its monumental 50th season into the New Year with a live primetime special on Sunday, February 16. Global’s unscripted offering continues later in February, as Canada’s most-watched reality series Survivor returns with Season 48 in a two-hour premiere on Wednesday, February 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

CANADIAN SCRIPTED ORIGINAL

Canada’s beloved chaotic family is back with Season 3 of dynamic legal drama Family Law premiering Sunday, January 5 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Produced by SEVEN24 Films and Lark Productions, and created by Canadian award-winning author Susin Nielsen, Season 3 once again finds Abby and her family helping their clients navigate cases with big emotional stakes. Returning for Season 3 includes series stars Jewel Staite, Victor Garber, Zach Smadu, Genelle Williams and Lauren Holly.

NEW SCRIPTED DRAMAS

Launching in the New Year, thrilling medical drama Doc premieres Tuesday, January 7 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. This emotionally charged scripted drama stars Molly Parker as Dr. Amy Larsen, a brilliant Chief of Internal Medicine whose life changes drastically after a brain injury erases the last eight years of her memory. This life-affirming medical procedural also stars Omar Metwally, Amirah Vann, Jon Ecker and Anya Banerjee. Scott Wolf and Patrick Walker are featured in heavily recurring roles.

Next, the new medical mystery Watson debuts Sunday, January 26 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Watson takes place six months after the death of the titular character’s friend and partner Sherlock Holmes at the hands of Moriarty. The show stars Morris Chestnut as Dr. John Watson, who resumes his medical career as the head of a clinic dedicated to treating rare disorders. Watson features a modern version of one of history’s greatest detectives as he turns his attention from solving crimes to solving medical mysteries. The series also stars Eve Harlow, Peter Mark Kendall, Ritchie Coster, Inga Schlingmann and Rochelle Aytes. Following the premiere, the second episode airs Monday, February 17 and then moves to its regular timeslot on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT starting February 23.

UNSCRIPTED GAME SHOWS AND REALITY SERIES

Bring on the entertainment this winter with the beloved classic game show Hollywood Squares, which premieres Thursday, January 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, and then moves to Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT starting January 29. Hosted by Nate Burleson and featuring Drew Barrymore as the centre square, celebrity guests including Tyra Banks, Julie Bowen, and RuPaul, join contestants for this star-studded take on tic-tac-toe. Also, returning to Global’s midseason lineup is Season 2 of high-stakes game show Raid the Cage. Hosted by Damon Wayans Jr. alongside co-host Jeannie Mai, the upcoming season premieres Wednesday, January 8 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Then in February, Canada’s #1 reality series Survivor returns for an epic Season 48 with a two-hour premiere Wednesday, February 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Following the premiere, the new season will continue with action-packed 90-minute episodes each week. Later in March, The Floor, hosted by Rob Lowe, returns for Season 3 on March 30 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

RETURNING HIT DRAMAS

Global’s winter 2025 TV season also welcomes back the highly-anticipated slate of returning hit dramas starting Monday, January 27 with the return of NCIS at 9 p.m. ET/PT and NCIS: Origins at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Then, FBI Tuesdays are back starting Tuesday, January 28 with new episodes of FBI at 8 p.m. ET/PT and FBI: Most Wanted at 10 p.m. ET/PT. New episodes from Canada’s #1 show and new drama among total viewers last fall Matlock (Thursday, January 30 at 9 p.m. ET/PT) return, followed by Top 20 comedy-drama Elsbeth (Thursday, January 30 at 10 p.m. ET/PT). Adrenaline-filled Fridays are back with a new season of NCIS: Sydney (Friday, January 31 at 8 p.m. ET/PT), fall’s #2 Friday ranked series Fire Country (Friday, January 31 at 9 p.m. ET/PT), and #1 Friday night series S.W.A.T. (Friday, January 31 at 10 p.m. ET/PT). #NEWMUSIC: TAYLOR SWIFT FANS RECORD RECORD NETWORK USE DURING “THE ERAS TOUR”

Taylor Swift fans on the Rogers 5G network used over 11 terabytes (TB) of mobile data in just a few hours at BC Place to share and stream her last concert of The Eras Tour – setting a new Canadian record.

This shatters the record set at the Taylor Swift concert at Rogers Centre in Toronto on November 21, when fans used 7.4 TB of data on the Rogers 5G network.

“Taylor fans use incredible amounts of data at her concerts to share the experience, and their data usage at the Vancouver shows have set a new bar for Rogers 5G network at a stadium event. Our 5G network at BC Place is brand new and we’re thrilled fans set a new record sharing this once-in-lifetime experience,” said Mark Kennedy, Chief Technology Officer.

The data used on December 8 is the equivalent of uploading 307,000 photos and 2,180 hours of video streaming. Based on data usage spikes, the most-shared moments of the show were when Taylor Swift came on stage and the start of the ‘Reputation’ era.

As presenting sponsor of Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour in Canada Rogers invested $10 million to enhance 5G connectivity at BC Place ahead of Taylor’s last stop on her global tour. This includes a full network redesign and installation of a new in-stadium network system to bring fans the best experience across her three nights in Vancouver. Teams spent 10,000 hours of planning and installation took 10,000 hours with a crew of over 40.

The upgrades increase 5G network capacity by 38 times throughout the stadium – the equivalent to coverage provided by 20 towers in Vancouver. Over the course of Taylor’s three performances in Vancouver, fans on the Rogers 5G network at BC Place used 32TB of data.

5G technology is critical for today’s concert experiences, providing faster speeds, lower latency and more capacity, as large numbers of fans livestream and share the moment in real-time.

As part of planning for the expected crowds outside of BC Place, Rogers also installed two temporary Cell on Wheels to increase wireless capacity and ensure reliable connectivity.

Paramount+ today revealed an exclusive clip from the highly anticipated prequel series DEXTER: ORIGINAL SIN at CCXP in São Paolo, Brazil on a panel featuring cast members Patrick Gibson (“Dexter Morgan”), Christian Slater (“Harry Morgan”), Molly Brown (“Debra Morgan”), special guest star Sarah Michelle Gellar (“Tanya Martin”) and Patrick Dempsey (“Aaron Spencer”). The new series will premiere exclusively on Paramount+ on December 13, 2024 in Canada, the U.S., UK, Australia, Latin America, Brazil, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.

Serving as a prequel to the award-winning SHOWTIME series DEXTER®, DEXTER: ORIGINAL SIN is set in 1991 Miami and follows Dexter (Gibson) as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry (Slater), he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar. Tubi (www.tubi.tv), Fox Corporation’s (NASDAQ: FOXA, FOX) ad-supported video-on-demand service, today announced its recent Tubi Original, “Sidelined: The QB and Me” is #1 in both the U.S. and Canada since its premiere on Friday, November 29, 2024 exclusively on Tubi.

In both markets, the movie has drawn the biggest number of viewers of any title on Tubi in its first seven days and has also brought in the most new viewers for a title to date. In its first seven days, the movie was viewed by 17.9% of total viewers in the U.S. and 19.9% of total viewers in Canada. #BOXOFFICE: “MOANA 2” DOMINATES A SECOND WEEK

A very stellar second frame for MOANA 2, taking $55 million this weekend from 4,200 theatres, which is the highest post-U.S. Thanksgiving weekend ever. High was previously held by FROZEN 2 with $35 million in 2019. It surpasses $300 million already domestically for Disney.

WICKED continues to thrive with $31.7 million from 3,885 theatres for Universal Pictures, also surpassing the $300 million mark already in three weeks.

Third up is GLADIATOR II with $12.3 million from 3,450 theatres, taking it to a run of $132.5 million for Paramount Pictures in its third weekend.

Fourth is PUSHPA 2 – THE RULE with $5.6 million for Prathyangira Cinemas.

Rounding things out is RED ONE with $5.5 million from 3,150 theatres for Warner Bros. A run of $84.2 million domestically over four weekends.
