#FIRSTLOOK: “THE SALT PATH” COMING SOON TO THEATRES

Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs star in THE SALT PATH, a profound and moving story of husband and wife Raynor and Moth, who embark on a 630-mile trek along the English coast after being forcibly removed from their home. What begins as an act of desperation becomes an extraordinary journey of resilience and the search for a new sense of home.

After losing their home and livelihood, Ray (Anderson) and Moth (Isaacs) are out of time, money and hope. With nowhere else to turn, the middle-aged couple impulsively set out on a 630-mile journey along the South West Coast Path, from Dorset to Somerset. Their walk is complicated by Moth’s recent diagnosis with corticobasal degeneration (CBD), an untreatable and terminal neurodegenerative condition.

Ray and Moth walk through the breathtaking yet rugged landscapes of southwest England, hoping to find solace in nature. Their journey is at once challenging and exhilarating, offering moments of hardship, beauty and unexpected liberation as they come to terms with their uncertain future.

Filmed across some of the most stunning coastal landscapes in England, Mother Nature serves as a third central character in the film. The ever-changing weather and majestic natural beauty of the English coast play an integral role in Ray and Moth’s journey, testing them with both difficult and beautiful experiences while providing a space for reflection, connection and acceptance.

The film marks the feature filmmaking debut of acclaimed Olivier and Tony Award-winning theatre director Marianne Elliott, the only woman to have won three Tony Awards for Best Direction (Company, Angels in America, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time). A move into film was a step Elliott had long wanted to take.

THE SALT PATH will be released in Canadian theatres by Mongrel Media. It opens August 28 in Toronto, September 4 in Vancouver.
