Back-to-school season is about more than checking items off a shopping list. This year, Scarborough Town Centre STC is helping students and families get excited for September through hands-on activities, style inspiration and community initiatives that support local students. With back-to-school haul videos flooding social feeds, shoppers are actively looking for ideas on what to buy, wear and pack for the year ahead. STC is making it easy (and fun) to turn those online wish lists into reality, bringing together the latest fashion, beauty, tech and school essentials all under one roof.

Creation Station: Backpack Charm Workshop

August 29 (Next Chapter Festival): 10 AM to 8 PM | September 4-6: 12 PM to 6 PM

What’s a back-to-school haul without a little personalization? STC is inviting students aged 16 and under to create their own custom backpack charm, adding a unique touch to their bags ahead of the new school year. The free activation launches during The Reading Partnership’s Next Chapter Festival on August 29 and returns to STC from September 4 to 6.

Guests can reserve a time slot while supplies last at ScarboroughTownCentre.com. Registration is required for the August 29 session and strongly encouraged for September 4 to 6, when walk-ins will also be accommodated.

Locker Displays Designed to Inspire

Locker displays are standing tall at STC, showcasing trending styles, trusted brands and school essentials for students from JK to post-secondary. Alongside STC’s shopping lists, they offer a convenient one-stop source of inspiration, helping guests map out their purchases and make the most of their back-to-school shopping trip.

School Supplies Donations in Support of BGC of East Scarborough

Back-to-school season is also an opportunity to give back. STC is encouraging shoppers to donate new and gently used school supplies in support of BGC East Scarborough, helping ensure local students have the essentials they need for the year ahead.

#FIRSTLOOK: SCARBOROUGH TOWN CENTRE TO HOST SCARBOROUGH SHOOTING STARS ACTIVATION

Scarborough Town Centre (STC) is teaming up with the Scarborough Shooting Stars to bring basketball culture, community energy and friendly competition to the mall. On Saturday, July 25, 2026 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Centre Court will transform into a lively basketball court for 5 Spot, a community basketball activation. Participants will compete in a series of qualifiers and playoff rounds for the opportunity to be crowned the first-ever Scarborough Shootout Champion. The event is free for spectators and participating teams.

Rooted in Scarborough’s deep connection to basketball, sport and community, the activation brings together local players, fans and recognizable basketball personalities for a day that celebrates the city’s energy on and off the court. The event will be hosted by The Real Smilez (@therealsmilez) and Brady Heslip (@heslip), creating an engaging experience for participants and guests.

Scarborough Shooting Stars

The Scarborough Shooting Stars are Scarborough’s own professional basketball team, proudly competing in the Canadian Elite Basketball League. Since tipping off in 2022, the Shooting Stars have electrified the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre each summer, backed by one of the most passionate and culture-driven fan bases in the country.

Inspired by the grit, diversity, and creative pulse of Scarborough, the team’s identity reflects the city’s strength, pride, and unstoppable energy on the court and in the community. The team is entering its 5th season with the ultimate goal of bringing back its second CEBL championship to Scarborough.

Scarborough Town Centre (STC) is hosting the 2026 Scarborough Walk of Fame (SWOF) induction ceremony on Wednesday, April 15 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. ET. Taking place in STC’s Centre Court and hosted by the Scarborough Community Renewal Organization (SCRO), the event celebrates this year’s inductees and their outstanding contributions.

The following honourees will be in attendance and will be honoured with their own stars for achieving excellence in their fields of arts and culture, business, community, education, entertainment and sports:

#FIRSTLOOK: 2025 TORONTO CARIBBEAN CARNIVAL LAUNCH AT SCARBOROUGH TOWN CENTRE

On Saturday, June 14, 2025, Scarborough Town Centre will host the Official Launch of the 2025 Toronto Caribbean Carnival season at a day-long block party. During this stunning event, held from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m., attendees will be able to view colourful Carnival costumes, enjoy delicious food, culture and live music.

Tickets are on sale now and cost $10 for general admission, $40 for a group of five and children five-years-old and under are free. Visit torontocarnival.ca to learn more.

This year, the Carnival theme is “Take Me Home.” It speaks to the love affair between our homelands and Canada. It is a place where people of all nations can feel at home, experience joy, and feel connected to each other.

On Saturday, January 25, 2025, Scarborough Town Centre (STC) is hosting an engaging Lunar New Year celebration featuring dazzling performances from the Chinese Collective Arts Association and an eye-dotting ceremony of lions with participation from Mayor Olivia Chow.

The Lunar New Year Gifting Market will debut with inspiring local artisans and entrepreneurs showcasing a range of gifting items. An expansive 12-foot-high Year of the Snake sculpture will make for the perfect photo moment for family and friends to capture the special occasion.

This event is a great opportunity to connect with the community and celebrate cultural diversity in Scarborough.
