Apple TV+ today unveiled a first-look and the premiere date for the second season of its award-winning and critically hailed, epic hit drama âPachinko.” Told in three languages â Korean, Japanese, and English â and consisting of eight, one-hour episodes, season two of âPachinkoâ will premiere globally on Friday, August 23, 2024 with one episode, followed by one episode weekly every Friday through October 11. Hailing from Media Res, âPachinko,â has been celebrated for its epic storytelling and praised as âan immersive, poignant, must-see journey.â The series quickly became Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes during its first season and has been praised as âmasterfulâ and deemed as âan extraordinary dramaâ and âone of the best shows of 2022.”
Based on The New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, âPachinkoâ is a sweeping and deeply moving story of love and survival across four generations. The first season received eleven international awards including a Peabody Award, an American Film Institute Award, a Critics Choice Award and a Gotham Independent Film Award. Season two stars Lee Minho, Minha Kim, Anna Sawai, Yuh-Jung Youn, Jin Ha, Eunchae Jung, Soji Arai, Junwoo Han, and Sungkyu Kim.
âPachinkoâ is created and written by Soo Hugh who serves as executive producer alongside Media Res’ Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer, and Theresa Kang for Blue Marble Pictures. Season two is directed by Leanne Welham, Arvin Chen, and Sang-il Lee.

Synopsis:
Filled with universal themes of family, love, triumph, fate and resilience, the series chronicles the hopes and dreams of a Korean immigrant family across four generations as they leave their homeland in an indomitable quest to survive and thrive. Starting in South Korea in the early 1900s, the story is told through the eyes of a remarkable matriarch, Sunja, who triumphs against all odds. It juxtaposes her story with that of her grandson, Solomon, in the 1980s. Â
âPachinkoâ is written and executive produced by Soo Hugh (âThe Terror,â âThe Killingâ), who created the series and serves as showrunner. Kogonada and Justin Chon are executive producers and directed four episodes each, with Kogonada directing the pilot. Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer executive produce for Media Res; Theresa Kang-Lowe executive produces for Blue Marble Pictures; and Richard Middleton also executive produces. Media Resâ Dani Gorin co-executive produces along with David Kim and Sebastian Lee.
