CARS 3 accelerates to the top of the Box Office in North American this weekend for Pixar/Disney with a $51.5 million opening from 4,256 theatres. This ranks this installment third overall for highest opening in the Franchise, behind 2011’s CARS 2 which opened with $66 million. It gets a passing 65% on the Tomatometer from Critics and an A CinemaScore from Audiences.
After two weeks on-top, WONDER WOMAN slips to second spot for Warner Bros. with $37.5 million from 4,018 theatres. Thus far it has grossed $271 million domestically.
In third in its debut is Tupac Shakur Biopic ALL EYEZ ON ME from Lionsgate Films/VVS Films, with an impressive $33.5 million. Critics gave it 24% on the Tomatometer and Audiences gave it an A- CinemaScore which might help boost word of mouth.
THE MUMMY is in fourth in its second week out with $13.2 million for Universal Pictures, a total $55 million earned thus far.
In fifth is 47 METERS DOWN with $10.6 million for Entertainment Studios, starring Matthew Modine, Claire Holt and Mandy Moore. It gets 55% on the Tomatometer and a C CinemaScore.
ROUGH NIGHT opens in sixth with $8.9 million for Sony Pictures from 3,162 theatres and the Scarlett Johansson-starring comedy gets 52% on the Tomatometer and a C+ CinemaScore.
MEGAN LEAVEY rounds-out the Top Ten for Bleecker Street/Elevation Pictures with $2.4 million, a total $8.3 million in two weeks.
For a second straight week, WONDER WOMAN dominates the Box Office by an easy margin with $52.8 million from 4,165 theatres across North America. Over two weeks, it has grossed $195 million for Warner Bros.
In second in its debut is THE MUMMY for Universal Pictures, starring Tom Cruise, with $30.5 million from 4,034 theatres. It gets 18% on the Tomatometer from Critics, and an B- CinemaScore from Audiences.
CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS: THE FIRST EPIC MOVIE is in third this weekend with $12.6 million from 3,529 theatres for 20th Century Fox, a tally of $44.1 million over two weeks.
In fourth is PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES with $10.4 million for Disney in its third week out, a total of $136 million earned domestically.
IT COMES AT NIGHT opens in fifth for A24 Films/Mongrel Media with $6.2 million in its debut in 2,000 theatres. Starring Joel Edgerton and Riley Keogh, it gets an 85% on the Tomatometer but a D CinemaScore.
The heartwarming MEGAN LEAVEY starring Kate Mara, is eighth for Bleecker Street/Elevation Pictures with $3.8 million from 1,944 theatres. It gets a 78% on the Tomatometer and an A CinemaScore.
EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING rounds-out the Top Ten with $1.6 million for Warner Bros. in its fourth week.
Be still our hearts! The Red Carpet was rolled out at the Thompson Hotel in Toronto tonight in celebration of Elevation Pictures’ MEGAN LEAVEY. The heart-warming story starring Kate Mara in the titular role, recalls a marine corporal’s bond with her canine partner Rex, to whom she was assigned in Iraq with the task of detecting bombs. After completing her tour, we also learn her struggle to be reunited back together with him.

Synopsis:
While U.S. Marine Corporal Megan Leavey, who is also a Military Police K9 handler, is stationed in Iraq. While there she befriends one of the aggressive dogs, Rex, and the two save countless lives in their missions to seek out hidden bombs and IEDs.
When Megan is injured and sent home to the States, she can’t bear to be separated from Rex as he is left to continue active duty. She fights to give him the hero’s welcome home he deserves and adopt him as her own. He’s saved her life countless times, so now it’s her turn to return the favor.
