One of this year’s Oscar®-nominated documentaries, Black Box Diaries (2024), sees journalist and filmmaker Shiori Itô investigate her own sexual assault, exposing Japan’s outdated judicial and societal systems in a landmark case. The seven-episode Canadian musical comedy series Less Than Kosher (2023) strikes a chord with a heartfelt journey of self-discovery when a young singer’s failing music career forces her back home, landing a job as a cantor at her family’s synagogue. Starring Katheen Munroe (Law and Order Toronto: Criminal Intent), Donovan Colan (Theater Camp) and Kris Holden-Ried (The Umbrella Academy), mysteries abound in director Valerie Buhagiar’s Canadian feature The Dogs (2024), which follows a mother-son duo who move into a quiet farmhouse only to learn about its haunting past.
To mark International Women’s Day on March 8, Hollywood Suite will be turning prime time programming over to four multi-talented women, showcasing films that excite and inspire them. Hollywood Suite will also be celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the six-time Oscar®-winning classic film All About Eve (1950). Starring Anne Baxter as Eve Harrington, who maneuvers herself from fan to leading lady, and Bette Davis as Margo Channing, the Broadway mega-star standing in Eve’s way, the role solidified Davis as a Golden Age star who refused to be brushed out of the spotlight – no matter her age. The film also includes an early performance from the legendary Marilyn Monroe.

Hollywood Suite invites film fans to fall out of love and into the arms of a bad romance this February, with the exclusive Canadian broadcast premiere of Kim Albright’s dark comedy With Love and a Major Organ (2023) on February 25 at 9pm ET. For those who aren’t feeling the love this year, Hollywood Suite has curated a special collection of anti-Valentine’s Day films starring favourites like Demi Moore, Emma Stone, Sharon Stone, Michael Douglas, Ryan Gosling, Jennifer Aniston and more, available now on Hollywood Suite On Demand.
“Love isn’t always in the air; whether you’re feeling it or not, we’ve curated a lineup for everyone to enjoy this month,” said Suzanne Marshall, Hollywood Suite Senior Manager, Programming. “Kim Albright has created a fantastical world for the lovesick in With Love and a Major Organ that is both cynical and hopeful at the same time.”
The not-so-romantic Canadian film brings viewers into an alternate world where hearts are made of objects and suppressing emotions is self-care. A lonely woman, played by Anna Maguire (Violation), actually rips out her own heart for the man she loves, played by Hamza Haq (Transplant), only to discover that he has run away with it.
For a little more Valentine’s relief and the dark side of love, sex, and obsession, catch Clint Eastwood’s American Southern Gothic thriller The Beguiled (1971); Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone in the erotic thriller Basic Instinct (1992); and Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal in the revenge tale Nocturnal Animals (2016). Sweet romances turn sour in the dramedy Striptease (1996) starring Demi Moore; the Oscar-winning musical La La Land (2016); and the premiere of The Break-Up (2006) starring Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston.
While love sometimes does stink, romance is still in the air for some including the original rom-com It Happened One Night (1934). Directors may have mixed comedy and romance since the start of movies, but it was the friction between Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert in this Frank Capra film that made the genre an audience favourite. Available alongside this classic are contemporary romances including Four Weddings and A Funeral (1994); The Wedding Planner (2001) and Long Shot (2019).

Anthem Sports & Entertainment, Inc., a global multi-platform media company, announced today it has reached an agreement to purchase successful Canadian independent broadcaster Hollywood Suite, the owner and operator of four linear TV channels and an accompanying On Demand offering showcasing the best films – uncut and commercial-free – from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00s. Launched in 2011, Hollywood Suite is the largest pure-play movie service in Canada, available to over 10 million homes from coast to coast to coast via Rogers, Bell, TELUS, Amazon Prime Video, Cogeco, Eastlink, and Freedom Mobile, among others.
Hollywood Suite has become a household favourite for subscribers in Canada satisfying both traditional lean back linear viewers and on-demand focused digital viewers. Satisfying these two unique audience experiences is a shared strategy for both Hollywood Suite and Anthem. Combined with Game TV, Game+, Fight Network and AXS TV, Anthem will deliver greater scale and investment to the Canadian system, to the benefit of viewers, content producers, and distributors.
Hollywood Suite joins Anthem’s already-impressive portfolio of cinematic offerings: film distribution house Gravitas Ventures, and the popular U.S. film cable channel HDNET MOVIES, home to a diverse range of blockbuster epics and vintage favorites and quickly becoming the fastest-growing network on US television. The acquisition highlights Anthem’s commitment to acquiring premium content and diversifying its portfolio with culturally relevant entertainment across traditional and digital channels serving the film super fans and supporting independent producers.
Hollywood Suite President & Co-Founder David Kines will continue to manage the business. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval by the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).
“Anthem is focused on providing fresh and unique content offerings catering to a wide and diverse network of passionate fanbases, and the acquisition of Hollywood Suite helps us further that strategy in a major way,” said Leonard Asper, founder and CEO of Anthem. “They have a proven track record of success and have enjoyed incredible growth throughout the years, with a strong commitment to providing true movie lovers with wide-ranging offerings from some of cinema’s most consequential eras. We are proud to have them onboard, and we look forward to working closely with David and the Hollywood Suite team to help them reach even greater heights.”
“With a passion and commitment to movies as deep as ours, Anthem is the perfect partner for Hollywood Suite,” said David Kines. “Leonard and his team have demonstrated an unparalleled commitment to supporting cinema and independent platforms like us, giving viewers and subscribers the absolute best in film-focused content.”
“On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank all of our employees over the last 13 years whose commitment and hard work are responsible for the level of success we have achieved, said Jeff Sackman, Co-chair of the Board of Directors and Co-founder, Hollywood Suite. “I would also like to acknowledge the unwavering support of our shareholders who endorsed our vision from the beginning.Together we look forward to supporting Anthem as they take the company into an exciting new era.”
