#REVIEW: “NEIGHBORS”
Review by David Baldwin for Mr. Will Wong
Hype can make or break a film. Marketing and PR teams work tirelessly deciding just how much excitement they want to drum up for their Films. And ever since an incomplete version was screened at the South by Southwest Film Festival in March, the hype for Neighbors has just increased by the week. And for a Comedy, that could be especially intimidating.
But this is one of those times where you should believe the hype.
Mac (Seth Rogen) and Kelly (Rose ...

#REVIEW: “LOCKE”
Review by David Baldwin for Mr. Will Wong
I went with my gut and skipped the previews going into Locke. Tom Hardy plays the Titular Character Ivan Locke, a dedicated Construction Manager and all-around family man. On the evening before the biggest moment of his career, he gets a phone call that changes everything.
While it may not sound like much, what follows is a rather intriguing and downright compelling 85-minutes of cinematic creativity. The entire movie takes place inside Ivan’s ...

#REVIEW: “BIOPHILIA” (TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL EXCLUSIVE)
Review by Jonathan Godfrey for Mr. Will Wong
With the One World Trade Center nearly complete TriBeCa is again the artistic haven it was in the 90’s. There is no greater evidence of this than the Neighbourhood’s 12th annual Film Festival that wrapped this past Sunday.
Though focused on narrative Films and Documentary features an Icelandic Girl nevertheless entered her cinematic concert into the contest. Björk’s Biophilia Live follows in the footsteps of a series she began twenty years ...

#REVIEW: “TRANSCENDENCE”
Review by Jonathan Godfrey for Mr. Will Wong
Transcendence: essentially, life after death. Religions promise it will come, and technology promises it will come quicker. And that’s the premise of a celebrated Cinematographer’s Directorial Debut: Transcendence.
Starring Johnny Depp and Rebecca Hall it is directed by Wally Pfister. The masses are familiar the latter’s eye; it is the same we all watched The Dark Knight Saga through. And now as the head-in-charge he’s helmed an ambitious ...

#REVIEW: “OCULUS”
Review by Jonathan Godfrey for Mr. Will Wong
The Horror genre encapsulates a wide-array of sub-genres, from Teen Slashers to Monster Movies all wave their banners proudly beneath the horrific flag. Thrillers do as well, and have done so since the days of Film Noir. Nail-biting suspense and paranormal delusions help fuel the Thriller medium, and the new Film Oculus combines both of these elements to make for one of the most terrifying experiences in recent years.
Written and directed by Mike ...

#REVIEW: “DOM HEMINGWAY”
Review by David Baldwin for Mr. Will Wong
I first saw Richard Shepherd’s Dom Hemingway last year at TIFF, and thought it was a wildly enjoyable but convoluted romp. The Film tells the tale of Dom (Jude Law), who is released from prison twelve years after a heist-gone-bad. He wants his time back, and he wants to get the money he so rightfully deserves. Of course, the Movie is about much more than that. But after watching it for a second time nearly a year later, I’m not quite sure even ...

#REVIEW: “BAD WORDS”
Several great Films have been made about child-adult role reversals. We had a hankering for Tom Hanks who touched our hearts in Big. Jennifer Garner garnered our affections in 13 Going on 30.  Zac Efron had us going fronatic, making our eyes misty in Seventeen Again. Bad Words, directed/produced by and starring Jason Bateman, possesses a similar sweet, fantastical quality about it which has us suspending our disbelief for a good 90 minutes in what otherwise is a pretty ridiculous ...

#REVIEW: “MUPPETS MOST WANTED”
Review by Jonathan Godfrey for Mr. Will Wong
It is without question that Jim Henson was a Visionary; a revolutionary Artist whose work was as unique as it was inspiring. And thanks to Disney his work, The Muppets, continue to inspire us. Since purchasing The Muppets in 2004, Disney have produced four Films, the most recent of which is the first traditional Sequel starring the felt-skinned Squad.
Subtitled Most Wanted, it begins immediately after its self-titled Predecessor. Whilst in the ...

#REVIEW: KYLIE MINOGUE – “KISS ME ONCE”
It's been four years since we've heard new Music from Australian Pop Queen Kylie Minogue and just as we reached starvation mode, now surfaces her 12th Studio Disc, Kiss Me Once. Â The Multimedia Empire herself has never been shy about her sensuality and despite playing it safe on this 11-track Offering, our jaws cannot help but drop upon perusal of its Track Listing. Â Sexercize? Sexy Love? Sleeping with the Enemy? Les Sex??! Â Yes we're uncomfortable, but we cannot help but be intrigued. ...

#REVIEW: “THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL”
Few things in life are certain, but we can always be sure that Wes Anderson knows how to make a gorgeous Film. Much-talked-about The Grand Budapest Hotel is everything his devout Fans could want: it is a thoughtful, highly-stylized celebration of Friendship and Love. It is a Crime-Thriller as much as it is witty Comedy and believe it or not, it is even partly factual, based on the writings of Matt Zoller Seitz.
Chalk full of Cameos by Stars of Anderson-Films-Past, The Grand Budapest Hotel ...
