#REVIEW: “Z FOR ZACHARIAH”
Review by Justin Waldman for Mr. Will Wong
Director Craig Zobel and screenwriter Nissar Modi took an ambitious in adapting Z for Zachariah. Their combined efforts are shown off gloriously on the screen, but it is certainly not without three remarkable performances from their cast. Although this Movie might not be for everyone, moving at a slow pace, it certainly is worth the time and commitment.
The Movie takes place in a small town after what can essentially be described as a nuclear ...

#REVIEW: “NO ESCAPE”
Review by Jonathan Godfrey for Mr. Will Wong
Thrillers are stories in which the innocent are attacked by the deranged. They’re a tale as old as time, one that was first adapted to the screen by names like Alfred Hitchcock and Fritz Lang. Contemporary names include David Cronenberg and John Erick Dowdle.
Dowdle has created a bevy of frightening Films, including: Quarantine, Devil, and As Above, So Below. Suspenseful cinema all of it, and Dowdle’s latest Film evokes equal ...

#REVIEW: “WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS”
Although expectations for We Are Your Friends were neither here nor there for me, Director/Writer Max Joseph (Catfish) certainly leaves an impression with this solid debut. The EDM Drama centers on a talented young hustler named Cole (Zac Efron), aspiring to be a DJ/Producer. Along the way, we witness some of his challenges, including balancing his friendships, finding a mentor in respected (Wes Bentley) and coping with his feelings for James' stunning girlfriend Sophie ...

#REVIEW: “AMERICAN ULTRA”
In the same vein as high-functioning Stoner Comedies like Harold & Kumar and This is the End, Nima Nourizadeh (Project X) gives us his latest, a fascinating piece in American Ultra. The Action-Comedy centers on a government operative named Mike (Jesse Eisenberg) who doesn't quite realize who he is, getting by at his job as a convenience store clerk. Little does he know he is marked for death by the government. On the verge of proposing to his girlfriend Phoebe (Kristen Stewart), his ...

#REVIEW: “THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.”
Review by Jonathan Godfrey for Mr. Will Wong
Guy Ritchie is a Director who certainly has earned his adoration. His start was Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, and aside from being Swept Away with Madge, Guy’s work has been RockNRolla. So let’s continue with the good news, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is yet another amazing Film on his hands.
It’s a revamp of the 60s Serial by the same name. It’s a slice of Bond, like espionage starring an American in the place of a Brit. Well, in ...

#REVIEW: “FINAL GIRL”
Review by Jonathan Godfrey for Mr. Will Wong
X Games Athlete turned Photographer Tyler Shields has completed his first Feature Film. Much like his photography, Final Girl focuses on a female that is battered, bloodied, and bruised.
Academy Award Nominee Abigail Breslin plays Veronica, an orphaned girl tutored by a vengeful master. Wes Bentley plays William, the rancorous man who teaches Veronica the dark arts of death.
Veronica, armed with her fists & wits, is tasked to take down a ...

#REVIEW: “THE DIARY OF A TEENAGE GIRL”
Review by Justin Waldman for Mr. Will Wong
For first-time Writer/Director Marielle Heller she takes on the extremely ambitious project of The Diary of a Teenage Girl, which takes place in the 1970s through a girl's adventures exploring her sexuality and understanding her place in the world. This is typical for a Indie flick, but The Diary of a Teenage Girl certainly is far from standard fare, it is more thought provoking and engaging than anything circling this topic in recent years; a ...

#REVIEW: “STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON”
Every once in a while, we are gifted with a hard-hitting piece of Filmmaking which goes all-in and doesn't hold back. In terms of Musical Biopics, they don't come any more real than Straight Outta Compton. Hopes are high for the Hip Hop-Drama based on true events and at the center of it all are legends N.W.A. We meet the group, five ambitious young black men in the early '80s, at a time when Rap Music was seen very much something of the underground. Compton, a city in south Los ...

#REVIEW: “FANT4STIC”
Review by Justin Waldman for Mr. Will Wong
In this third Fantastic Four release, Josh Trank (Chronicle) faces some monumental challenges as both Writer and Director. Fant4stic stretches itself too thin unfortunately, often plodding in backstory among the four-person Ensemble, and neglects their biggest fear almost entirely until too late. Fans of the Franchise have been waiting patiently for a Film Adaptation that does its legacy justice, but one cannot help but feel underwhelmed yet ...

#REVIEW: “DARK PLACES”
Review by David Baldwin for Mr. Will Wong
Gone Girl was one of last fall’s most talked about Films. David Fincher’s impeccable directing and Gillian Flynn’s Adaptation of her deliciously-twisted Best-Seller made for what is easily a masterpiece of modern cinema (and a terrifyingly hilarious dissection of marriage). Zap forward less than a year later, and we have another adaptation of a Flynn Novel – Dark Places. It does not have the same prestige behind it, but the Story is just as ...
