Review by Justin Waldman for Mr. Will Wong
The movie Pandemic (also known in the U.S. as Alone) surprisingly is not a Coronavirus movie, but instead a Zombie Apocalypse flick that truly delivers! If you’ve ever played the Dawn of the Dead inspired Video Game, Dead Rising, imagine if someone made a movie based on that game and you would have Pandemic. It is an over-the-top, action-packed, ridiculous Action Movie that totally works.
Pandemic focuses on Aiden (Tyler Posey) who wakes up, turns on his TV and sees an emergency broadcast alert that informs him of a global crisis, the Zombie Apocalypse. He starts to prepare in the knick of time, barricading himself inside his apartment, figuring out a survival strategy while trying to keep himself sane hoping to wait it out. As the Movie progresses, he starts to record a Vlog while still having resources to keep himself coherent and busy, trying to figure out the status of his parents and sister. When everything turns for the worse, he discovers a woman across from him, Eva (Summer Spiro) and they create a bond and keep each other grounded while trying to create a pact for survival. However, these are not your ordinary Zombies, they are agile and can climb walls with ease.
What works well in Pandemic is the chemistry that is shared between Posey and Spiro as they truly shine together, and the audience can resonate with their instant connection. They interact in a way the grabs our attention and keeps it. Not only that, the action sequences are a delight to watch, giving us high energy and momentum in this tightly-packed 93 minute runtime. Pandemic is an absolute blast to watch!
VVS Films release PANDEMIC on digital and on-demand Tuesday, March 2, 2021.
