Piggy’s Island, GTA’s beloved Korean BBQ destination, is thrilled to announce its highly anticipated relaunch and grand opening celebration. After an unfortunate incident that saw the original restaurant burn down in 2021, Piggy’s Island emerges from the ashes stronger than ever. Now, the team is ready to bounce back, better than ever, by welcoming guests to the family-run business once again.
Owned by Joeun Kim, Piggy’s Island is not just a restaurant; it’s a story of resilience, family passion, and the pursuit of excellence. Inspired by the vision of Joeun Kim, along with the culinary expertise of Torry Chun (chef, husband), and Gi Ja Lee (chef, mother), Piggy’s Island introduces a distinctive Korean BBQ concept that promises an unparalleled dining experience.
Piggy’s Island proudly selects only AAA Grade Canadian beef and exclusively utilizes 100% Korean sweet potato starch, directly sourced from Korea, to craft their signature Korean cold noodles in-house. Their commitment to authenticity extends to their essential ingredients, such as Korean chili powder and natural sea salts, which are sourced directly from Korea every two to three months. What sets Piggy’s Island apart is its exclusive use of 100% Korean oak charcoal, delivering an authentic grilling experience. Combined with specialized marinated meats infused with a blend of 12 natural ingredients, including apple, kiwi, onions and more, every dish at Piggy’s Island is a celebration of flavor and tradition.
The rebuilt location of Piggy’s Island symbolizes new beginnings and triumph of the human spirit. “Piggy’s Island is more than just a restaurant now. It’s a spot where you can escape the winter blues and feel like it’s summer all year round,” says owner, Joeun Kim.
Piggy’s Island stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of family expertise, culinary passion and innovative design. With over 20 years of experience in the restaurant business, chef Torry Chun brings a wealth of expertise to Piggy’s Island. Having graduated from George Brown College’s culinary program, Torry dedicated 5 years to learning from renowned Korean chefs, honing his skills and refining his craft which he eventually brought to Piggy’s Island.
Stepping inside, guests are transported to a tropical paradise, where the family-designed vibrant interior evokes the feeling of a vacation getaway.
