Today, Netflix’s thriller Below, which was filmed in Newfoundland and Labrador, premieres, showcasing the province’s dramatic coastline, picturesque fishing communities and rich maritime character on a global scale. You can find all of the filming locations featured in the latest update on the Netflix in Your Neighbourhood and Netflix chez vous websites.
In this new series, a mysterious sea creature terrorizes a small Newfoundland town, and a hard-bitten fisherman (Josh Hartnett) must fight to protect his family, his community, and his vanishing way of life.
Filming took place across the province, including Brigus South, where the Harbour Authority became the Harbour Master’s Shack. Over in St. John’s, the Ocean Sciences Centre doubles as a marine research facility. Just outside the capital, Pouch Cove plays a starring role, with the Pouch Cove Heritage Society becoming the Fisherman’s Hall and Marine Park transformed into a fish farm.
Further along the coast, Bay Bulls provides the backdrop for a dangerous nighttime expedition to harvest an iceberg, while Harbour Main becomes home to Linda’s Bar. And, of course, Twillingate, the “Iceberg Capital of the World” is where footage was captured of the giant iceberg that makes an unwelcome appearance in Snooks Arm.
