17-year-old Mackenzie Foy already has built an outstanding resume of work including starring roles in blockbusters Interstellar, The Conjuring and The Twilight Saga. She’s in Toronto for the first time ever today to promote her breakout starring role in Disney’s THE NUTCRACKER AND THE FOUR REALMS and she even made time to meet some special young talents in celebration of the Film!
Donning her favourite colour purple, the Actress did the rounds today including CITY‘s Breakfast Television, Global‘s The Morning Show and CP24 Breakfast, Foy also stopped by at Union Station to visit an installation perfect for an Instagram-obsessed Toronto inspired by one of the Film’s four realms. We caught-up with Foy as she visited The National Ballet of Canada, meeting a group of students who will rotate the roles of Misha and Marie at the school’s holiday production of The Nutcracker.
Foy, herself an athlete learning Taekwondo, took her time chatting with the students asking for advice on dancing and stretching, kidding that the kids were the real deal when meanwhile she was just “the movie version”. She took a moment to hug the youngsters before heading-off to her next destination, making it a special moment for them. They will be seeing the Film shortly!
Synopsis:
All Clara (Mackenzie Foy) wants is a key – a one-of-a-kind key that will unlock a box that holds a priceless gift. A golden thread, presented to her at godfather Drosselmeyer’s (Morgan Freeman) annual holiday party, leads her to the coveted key—which promptly disappears into a strange and mysterious parallel world. It’s there that Clara encounters a soldier named Phillip (Jayden Fowora-Knight), a gang of mice and the regents who preside over three Realms: Land of Snowflakes, Land of Flowers and Land of Sweets. Clara and Phillip must brave the ominous Fourth Realm, home to the tyrant Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren), to retrieve Clara’s key and hopefully return harmony to the unstable world. Starring Keira Knightley as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Disney’s new holiday feature film “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” is directed by Lasse Hallström and Joe Johnston, and inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s classic tale.

Last TIFF we had the joy of making a splash around town in the Civic 5D Sport and we were so thrilled to be reunited our Birthday Week with the 2018 edition of this gem! Over the course of the week, we practically adopted it as our v. own, learning its intricacies, rhythms and flows.
Fuel economy and performance make for that perfect combination in the 2018 Honda Civic 5D Sport. We’ve never felt more at home in a vehicle and would seriously consider making it ours. Plummeting gas prices this past week were a double-win for us, taking us far on value. We calculated two return trips from the east end to our day job downtown, barely leaving a mark on its fuel gauge using the car’s famous ECON mode. Not a surprise considering its combined 7.3L/100 km fuel economy. The car took us on many adventures, urban and rural performing with versatility on everything from highway to dirt roads. We were in control with its 180 @ 5500 (MT) / 180 @ 6000 (CVT) horsepower and 1.5-litre, 16-valve, Direct Injection, DOHC, turbocharged 4-cylinder engine.
The Honda Civic 5D Sport’s six-way adjustable driver’s seat is a new gold standard and we won’t accept anything less than that anymore! Spacious passenger seating (everyone gets heated seats!) meant friends could share in my journeys, including out favourite of all, little Billy! We saw the gorgeous countrysides of Caledon, the stunning Katherine Heigl and even our dream dad Tony Danza in a rare appearance out in Burlington of all places, making time for a stopping-off at one of our favourite spots, Kelly’s Bake Shoppe for a Birthday Cupcake!
Quality Time with the Prince and Princess
The car’s jam-packed with goodies and to us, great acoustics are almost just as important as the drive itself. Now, we were a little annoyed our Blackberry Key 2 simply wouldn’t pair via Bluetooth, fortunately we have our Samsung S8 Plus from which we streamed our Music. The Honda Civic 5D Sport comes with a 180-watt AM/FM audio system with MP3/Windows Media®Audio playback capability and 8 speakers. Our Birthday Week scored pretty much by the amazing A STAR IS BORN Soundtrack, only meant one thing! We had to do Caraoke to our favourite I’ll Never Love Again from the Film! We hope we did Lady Gaga some justice!
We are obsessed with the car’s highly-customizable climate control, which is managed through its 7″ colour TFT display system, giving driver and passenger each options for their own temperatures. A wireless phone charging plate and USB ports give us piece of mind that we’ll always be connected. The car’s deep armrest with slideable drink holders for our Birthday Reward Americano from Starbucks, is a thing of genius and a new standard we’ll hold others to. We love to shop, stocking-up when we have a car and that sizey hatchback trunk nails all the marks in practicality.
Safety as always with Honda vehicles is a priority. Its brake assist, forward collision warning, vehicle stability assist, i-SRS airbag system and SmartVent™ side airbags are life savers. We love that it also gave us sufficient notice that the car we test drove was due for maintenance soon.
We had such a tough time giving this one back, but can you blame us?

Up to its old tricks, HALLOWEEN debuts huge this weekend to the tune of $80.5 million this weekend from 3,928 theatres for Blumhouse Productions/Universal Pictures. The direct Sequel some 40 years later, ignoring the other Films in the Franchise, gets 81% on the Tomatometer and B+ CinemaScore. This easily is a Franchise-best opening, the best belonging prior to 2007’s Halloween: Resurrection which debuted with $26 million.
In second a third week in-a-row is A STAR IS BORN, still pulling in big numbers with $18.8 million in week three for Warner Bros. It surpasses $125 million in earnings this weekend.
VENOM is in third with $17.5 million for Sony Pictures, a tally of $170.5 million over three weeks.
GOOSEBUMPS 2: HAUNTED HALLOWEEN lands in fourth with $10.1 million for Sony Pictures also, a two week total of $29.2 million.
FIRST MAN is in fifth this weekend with $8.9 million a two week run of $30.3 million for Universal Pictures.
THE HATE U GIVE expands to 2,303 theatres this weekend for 20th Century Fox, placing sixth with $7.7 million, a total $10.9 million grossed since its limited opening. Reviews are phenomenal with 96% on the Tomatometer and a rare A+ CinemaScore.
THE OLD MAN AND THE GUN rounds-out the Top Ten with $1.9 million, expanding to 802 theatres for Fox Searchlight this weekend. Robert Redford’s final bow as an Actor gets 90% on the Tomatometer.
A star of screen and stage, Tony Danza is a beloved American treasure. The People’s Choice Award winner has delighted audiences for years, whether it be his work on Who’s the Boss, Taxi, The Practice or eponymous The Tony Danza Show.
Though he was to star in Mirvish Productions‘ Toronto production of Honeymoon in Vegas in 2012, ultimately that wasn’t to be after a scheduling conflict. We’ve been waiting for his return ever since!
Danza was back in Toronto – or a bit west of it – playing the Burlington Performing Arts Centre last night, his second of two Canadian dates on his Standards and Stories Tour. Playing Ottawa also earlier this week, he delivered about 90 minutes of anecdotes from his storied career and classics by the liked of Bobby Darin and Tony Bennett.
Looking fit, Danza is in great form and was kind to stop for some photos with fans after a Meet & Greet following his Show. He even was asked about his popular namesake racehorse Danza, whose yearlings are just surfacing this year and it’s clear he is an ardent fan of racing! He still is proud of his third-place finish in the Kentucky Derby even after a bad bump!
See our Snap with Billy:
What a dream come true! We spent our childhood wishing he was our dad and that he and Judith Light‘s Angela on Who’s the Boss would wind-up together!
Danza currently can be seen on Netflix Series THE GOOD COP alongside Josh Groban!
