Zootopia 2 is racing ahead on Disney+, hopping to 32M views globally in its first seven days, making it the #1 film on Disney+ during its premiere week. Its arrival on service builds on the enduring popularity of the franchise: together, Zootopia, Zootopia+, and Zootopia 2 have been streamed over 885 million hours globally to date.
The film’s strong debut on Disney+ follows in its huge theatrical pawprint. It shattered box office records, becoming the highest-grossing animated Motion Picture Association (MPA) release of all time with $1.9 billion worldwide, ranking as the eighth highest-grossing film ever. The sequel’s success continues the legacy of the original Zootopia, which captivated fans around the globe and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film in 2017.
The world of Zootopia has expanded beyond the screen as well. In 2023, the Shanghai Disney Resort opened the first Zootopia-themed land, introducing guests to the Mammalian Metropolis and bringing the beloved animal residents of the film to life. Its signature attraction, Zootopia: Hot Pursuit, is the highest-rated attraction at Shanghai Disneyland, with one in four guests stating they came to the park specifically for the land. Leveraging cutting-edge technology, the park also rapidly integrated new content inspired by Zootopia 2, debuting the film’s latest Gazelle song with one of the newest Audio-Animatronics just weeks after the film’s theatrical release. Plus, guests go wild for the food too – over 4.8M Disney Zootopia Pawpsicles (480 tons of ice cream!) have been sold to date.
The animated feature has also sparked strong fan engagement across consumer products and global retail, igniting viral demand for collectibles, blind boxes, and collaborations with brands such as Pop Mart, Miniso, Tony Moly, and Uniqlo. On DisneyStore.com, the iconic Zootopia carrot pen sold out twice – once at launch and again after restocking.
