Paramount+ today announced that Samuel L. Jackson has signed on to headline his first TV series following the greenlighting of NOLA KING, the first spinoff of the hit series, TULSA KING. Jacksonâs character, Russell Lee Washington Jr., will be introduced in the upcoming, highly anticipated third season of TULSA KING, slated to premiere in September.
âSamuel L. Jackson brings unparalleled presence and global appeal, making him the perfect choice to maximize the momentum of one of our biggest hits and transform it into a hit franchise,” said Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount Global and President of SHOWTIME/MTV Entertainment. âBuilding on the breakout success of Sylvester Stalloneâs TULSA KING, audiences will now experience the full force of Jackson’s dynamic, layered performance, supercharging one of Paramount+’s flagship series.â
NOLA KING follows Russell Lee Washington Jr. (Jackson) who, after befriending Dwight Manfredi (Stallone) during a ten-year stint in federal prison, is sent to Tulsa by New York’s Renzetti crime family to take Dwight out once and for all. Inspired by what Dwight created in Tulsa and impressed with the possibilities of second chances, Washington returns to New Orleans, the home he abandoned forty-years ago, to rekindle his relationship with his family and friends, and to take control of the city he left behind. In so doing, he incurs the wrath of his former employers in New York, and makes himself vulnerable to old NOLA foes, both criminal and cop.
âChris McCarthy came to me with a game-changing idea: to elevate my show beyond a mob boss series, creating a dynamic, family-driven franchise,â said Sylvester Stallone. âI was immediately on board. Sam Jackson is the only choice to anchor this new adventure in NOLA and David Glasser and 101 are the perfect partner to bring it to life.”
âPartnering with Paramount has been such a rich experience,â said David C. Glasser, CEO 101 Studios. âTaylor had the brilliant idea to drop Sylvester Stallone in the middle of Tulsa and it has been everything we have wanted and more. The success of this show has now led us to another icon. I cannot wait to see what Sam brings to this world.â
NOLA KING is executive produced by OscarÂŽ nominees Taylor Sheridan, Sylvester Stallone and Samuel L. Jackson. David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Michael Friedman and Keith Cox also executive produce. The series is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios and distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.

Sylvester Stallone is back in a big way and would you believe that this is his actual Television Series debut? The iconic two-time Academy Award nominee returns in Paramount+‘s TULSA KING, starring as Dwight “The General” Manfredi, a crime boss who just completed his 26-year prison sentence, surfacing in Oklahoma of all places. He is sent to Tulsa and given the impossible task of setting-up operations there and it’s slim pickings. He knows literally no one and forges his way into a smalltime cannabis shop, volun-telling them that they need protection and staking claim to a cut of profits.
By the end of the first episode we really see him begin to plant his roots and just how Dwight’s poise and charm quickly win the locals over. Whether it be a local bar owner Mitch (Garrett Hedlund); Tyson (Jay Will), whom he convinces to be his personal driver; or Stacy (Andrea Savage), a local woman who becomes involved with Dwight.. in more ways than one, let’s just say. Things get messy as he begins to draw attention with his arrival and that’s exactly what we’re here for.
Taylor Sheridan who is responsible for the likes of Veronica Mars and Sons of Anarchy, brings us TULSA KING. We get drama, a bit of a thrill ride and lots of Comedy. We’re actually surprised how comedic the Series and it works. Stallone approaches the role exactly as he should – a step slow and still, really gravitating this people of this town towards him as he leans-in to whisper. Hedlund‘s Mitch likely will play a very integral role to the story, already establishing early that he is trustworthy and likable. The real scenestealer though is Savage who looks like she’s got a complicated history and we can’t wait to find out about it.
TULSA KING debuts on Paramount+ November 13, 2022, with new episodes arriving weekly.
We had the pleasure of being in Stallone‘s presences on a recent visit to Toronto in support of the Series. More here.
