Today, Prime Video confirmed Season Three of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is in pre-production and will begin filming this spring in the seriesâ new production home at Shepperton Studios in the UK. Additionally, we are announcing three directors, two returning and one new, Charlotte BrĂ€ndström, Sanaa Hamri, and Stefan Schwartz will be a part of this season. The globally successful series, which has attracted over 170 million viewers worldwide, continues to be one of Amazon’s strongest drivers for new Prime membership sign-ups.

Charlotte BrÀndström, who served as co-executive producer and directed multiple episodes in Seasons One and Two, returns as executive producer and director for the third season. Each director will oversee multiple episodes in the upcoming season.

Sanaa Hamri is a renowned film, television, music video, and commercial director from Tangier, Morocco. She is currently in an overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios. She recently directed the pilot and episode 2 of Prime Videoâs The Bondsman starring Kevin Bacon, as well as episodes from Seasons 2 and 3 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Previously she was EP/Director of Season 2 of Prime Videoâs The Wheel of Time.
Hamri was also EP/Director of the blockbuster series Empire on Fox from 2015 to 2020. As an acclaimed music video director, Hamri’s prolific career boasts collaborations with high profile hip hop/R&B musicians including Prince, Common, Lenny Kravitz, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Snoop Dogg, Jay Z, and Mary J. Blige. Hamri has been awardaed the NAACP Image Award for India Arie’s 2003 and an MTV VMA for Nicki Minaj’s 2010 blockbuster hit “Super Bassâ. Hamri also directed Mariah Carey’s sold-out live arena concert documentary, The Adventures of Mimi. Stefan Schwartz is an award winning British/Canadian film and television director, writer, and producer. He has directed episodes of The Boys and My Lady Jane for Amazon MGM Studios, as well as The Americans, The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, Dexter, White Collar, Those Who Kill, Black Sails, and the BBCâs Luther and Spooks. He served as executive producer and directed episodes of Apple TVâs The Mosquito Coast, the Starz series Camelot, and the pilot of the CBC Television series Fortunate Son. His feature film directing debut was Soft Top Hard Shoulder, which starred Peter Capaldi and won two BAFTA Awards in Scotland and the prestigious audience prize at the London Film Festival. WICKED continues to performing exceedingly well in second with $20.5 million, bringing it to $357 million in its fourth weekend for Universal Pictures.

San Diego was transformed into Middle-earth on Friday, as Prime Video showcased the highly anticipated second season of the epic series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay were joined on the iconic Hall H stage by over a dozen cast members for a lively and insightful conversation moderated by Emmy-nominated actress and renowned genre fan Yvette Nicole Brown (Avengers: Endgame, Community).
The ensemble cast thrilled the 6,500 fans who packed the massive convention center hall by unveiling a brand-new exclusive trailer for the upcoming season. The action-packed trailer focuses on the long-feared reemergence of the legendary villain Sauron, heralding the return of darkness and evil to Middle-earth after many years of hard-fought peace among all of its realms. The trailer also highlighted the creation of more of the titular Rings of Power, forged with the aid of Sauronâs powers of deception and manipulation.
Fans were also excited to see a glimpse of many of the fantastical, and sometimes frightening, creatures that will appear this season, including a young Shelob, an army of Barrow-wights, Hill-troll Damrod, a Sea Worm, and even Ents! Cast members Morfydd Clark (Galadriel), Ismael Cruz CĂłrdova (Arondir), Sophia Nomvete (Princess Disa), Owain Arthur (Prince Durin IV), and Peter Mullan (King Durin III) took a break from production of the second season in the UK to gather in Los Angeles and reflect on the inaugural season.

He has starred in such films as Steven Spielbergâs Munich, Martin Scorseseâs Silence, There Will be Blood, Road to Perdition, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, In Bruges, The Phantom of the Opera, The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover, Persuasion, First Man, Amazing Grace, Zack Snyderâs Justice League, and The Eclipse, a role for which he was awarded Best Actor at the Tribeca Film Festival. He is also known for his voice role as âGrand Pabbieâ the Troll King in the animated films Frozen and Frozen II.

Rory Kinnear is an award-winning British actor, perhaps best known for his role as âBill Tannerâ in the James Bond films Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and Spectre. Kinnear recently starred in Alex Garlandâs Men, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and saw him nominated for a BIFA award. Other recent film credits include Bank of Dave, Mike Leighâs Peterloo, Broken (for which he won Best Supporting Actor at the BIFAs), and the Academy Award- and BAFTA Award-nominated The Imitation Game. TANYA MOODIE
Tanya Moodie is an acclaimed British actress who won the Royal Television Societyâs Breakthrough Award for the role of âMegâ in the BAFTA Award-winning comedy Motherland (BBC). Her numerous television roles include starring as âHunterâ in the miniseries adaptation of Neil Gaimanâs Neverwhere (BBC), as well as roles in Tin Star (Sky Atlantic), A Discovery of Witches (Sky One), The Man Who Fell to Earth (Showtime), and Sherlock (BBC).
Some of Moodieâs recent film roles include J.J. Abramsâ Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker as âGeneral Parnadeeâ and Sam Mendesâ Empire of Light as âDelia.â
In the theatre, Moodie is a two-time Olivier Award nominee for Outstanding Achievement in an Affiliate Theatre for her roles in Intimate Apparel and The House That Will Not Stand. She played âGertrudeâ in Simon Godwinâs production of Hamlet for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Her performance as âRoseâ opposite Lenny Henry in August Wilsonâs Fences in the West End earned her a WhatsOnStage Awards nomination for Best Actress. She was nominated for a UK Theatre Award for Best Performance for her role in Trouble in Mind, and she has received additional Best Actress nominations from the London Evening Standard Theatre Awards and the UK Theatre Awards. Moodie studied at Londonâs Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, where she was later employed as an associate teacher and council member.

Season Two of the series is produced by showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne & Patrick McKay. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has announced seven new recurring cast members for the forthcoming second season, currently in production in the UK.

The new cast members are: Gabriel Akuwudike, Yasen âZatesâ Atour, Ben Daniels, Amelia Kenworthy, Nia Towle, and Nicholas Woodeson. The role of Orc leader âAdarâ has been recast for Season Two, and will be played by Sam Hazeldine.
